As much as I love Illmatic, I'd put this album above it. When it came out I played it constantly. I recently started listening to it a lot. Officer's like a light heart, fun and comedic version of fuck the police.
Nice reaction! This is a certified classic track. Some more songs on this type of vibe are: The Roots- Silent Treatment Common Sense- I Used To Love H.E.R. A Tribe Called Quest- Electric Relaxation
Definitely good to see the younger generation listening to this, I miss this era so much!!!!!!! If you like this you should check out "Souls of Mischief"
There was a lot of really cool hip hop groups at the time Pharcyde came out--East Coast and West Coast! 🥰💝 They had a song from the same albim--their debut song-- "Your Mama"! The video is hilarious!
The Pharcyde is one of those groups that were fairly overlooked at the time but was one of the dopest groups out. And I finally got to see them when they were at The Roots concert with Digable Planets. An amazing show.
Correction: not the hook but Phat Lip's portion of the verse is what Joe used as well as sampling some of the melody from Pharcyde, not the chorus (hook) as I stated earlier
Love the Pharcyde, love to see your reaction! I’d love to see your reaction to their song Pack the Pipe. I see no one talking about that song but I think the lyrics are extremeeeeely problematic. I’d love to know what you think
I just peeped you for the 2nd time. You look so much like my cuz it's crazy. Anyway you're on point 💕 you're reaction. It's a old jazz type song he got that (my dear) from.
That melody in the 4th verse that you said you knew was sampled in another song, that might have been 'Through the Eyes of a G' by Action Bronson! (Around 2:20 into the song)
They were actually still in high school Locke High watts,California same school Tyrese attended. He was in their renowned band program when he did the coke commercial.
I’m enjoying your reactions. Binary Star- Honest Expression. AZ- Rather Unique. The Roots- Respond/React. Naughty By Nature- Feel Me Flow. Sporty Thievz- Cheapskates. The Mighty Mos Def- Brooklyn. The Lost Boys- Renee. Tha Liks- Daaam! Onyx- The Worst.
THE end... but POSSIBLY the masterpiece of rhe entire Native Tongues influence on Hip-Hop. And I miss this damned style more every time some douchebag in Hip-Hop puts out an album. This is a song about NOT getting the girl. How many artists nowadays would put themselves in a position of vulnerability today?! ZERO. 💯
Peace! Excellent timeless joint; but it’s not the masterpiece of NT influence on hip-hop.. De La & Tribe, Jungle Brothers, etc had too many dope cuts..
90s rap was more culturally in tune with our black American musical roots which was in blues, soul and jazz. :)
When the Bizarre Ride came out, those of us that partook, found a hidden gem. It’s, for me, an all time album. Highly suggest digging into it.
Strangely enough tonight is the first time I have ever encountered this band and the album it's Genius
The whole Hieroglyphics crew is mad underrated. Souls of Mischief, Del the Funky Homosapien, they are all fire
listened to it my first time tripping alone hahaha, 4 better or 4 worse got me crazy
As much as I love Illmatic, I'd put this album above it. When it came out I played it constantly. I recently started listening to it a lot. Officer's like a light heart, fun and comedic version of fuck the police.

Problematic....for 93...or 2024...🤔
when us old heads talk about the creativity of the 90s THIS IS WHAT WE MEAN.
and this was the alternative to l.a gangsta rap in that era
These brothers really lived up to their name but so underrated.
What I like is back then rappers didn't have to be super Playas. You should listen to Digital Underground "Kiss You Back"
I just peeped you for the 2nd time. You look so much like my cuz it's crazy. Anyway you're on point 💕 you're reaction. It's a old jazz type song he got that (my dear) from.
Also, mixing engineers blended vox and music more equally, but damn, those 12 bit samplers were FIRE!!!!
This tune took me through A..LOT....!!!! PHSSSST!!! DAAAAAMN!!!🔥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥🔥💥💥🔥🔥💥🔥🔥💥🔥🔥
Joe the r&b singer is where you heard it. I believe with Mystikal. I believe the song was name stutter

Pharcyde had a smooth sound, this tune got me into them. If you haven't yet, check out some Gang Starr for some lyrical education and deep beats

Hey mama…in the same old school hip hop days….I used to bump ‘Latyrx- Lady don’t tek no’ in the car alllll the time. You gotta react to that oldie.
I’m enjoying your reactions. Binary Star- Honest Expression. AZ- Rather Unique. The Roots- Respond/React. Naughty By Nature- Feel Me Flow. Sporty Thievz- Cheapskates. The Mighty Mos Def- Brooklyn. The Lost Boys- Renee. Tha Liks- Daaam! Onyx- The Worst.
I was 16.What a time for hip hop.
The best!

Back in the days- Ahmed
you heard that part on joe's song "stutter remix"
I would love to know where the samples "things keep passing me by" come from
You heard the hook redone on Joe featuring Mystikal on Stutter
The original inspiration for the samples your talking about comes from *King Pleasure - I'm In The Mood For Love*
THE end... but POSSIBLY the masterpiece of rhe entire Native Tongues influence on Hip-Hop.

We were spoilt in the 90's
React to the Pharcyde - 4 Better or 4 Worse
Let me answer you never heard that riff on that last verse. These guys were the original.
Note to your generation: Nothing you're doing is new. The 90 was the pinnacle.
