Rest in piece to Quincy Jones, the beat contains a sample of a composition he made called Summer in the City from 1973 . Pharcyde burst on the scene with this song in 1993, I remember it fondly because I was a senior in highschool. They were a refreshing alternative to what typified west coast hip hop at the time, which was mostly gang-related G-funk . Very well written verses and light hearted adolescent young male experiences. This song is an evergreen hip hop classic .
Where im from on the east coast, we didn't even know they had rappers in Northern California until these guys and The Mighty Souls of Mischief (93 til infinity)
i know Leimert well! i'm down on santa monica & western but i'm a lover of Project Blowed & used to go to their open mic on thurs when they were at Good Life on leimert blvd & worked w/ Open Mike Eagle at the non-profit arts program JUICE. where Crenshaw blvd meets Rodeo dr there is so much more beautiful art then where Rodeo meet Bev Hills blvd
Idk who's giving you some of these suggestions, but you are on 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 girl!!! BizzarreRideToThePharcyde is easily one of my top 10 greatest hip hop albums of all time, and 93 to Infinity is right up there as well. Peace!
Your first dip into West Coast early 90s flow! Pharcyde are legends, unfortunately they couldn’t stick as a group beyond 2 classic albums due to infighting/ego. Other dope Pharcyde tracks are “Drop” (which has a famous Beastie Boys sample) and “Oh Shit!” Souls of Mischief is another west coast group of this era typically mentioned with Pharcyde. The track “93 to Infinity” is their biggest hit. Since you are big lyricism fan, check out Del The Funky Homosapien. The godfather of CA Bay Area lyrical wizardry. Low key massively influential on many later MCs. And Ice Cube’s cousin! Check out the track “Catch a Bad One” or “Mr Dobalina”
Playing catch up and saw you reacted to black cop,so it's only right that his next reaction by you would be Sound Of Tha Police....Pharcyde has a awesome song library ,another great reaction by you yungstarr...
I like She Said the remix, also Soulflower remix, For Better or Worse, and The Drop .. list goes on a bit most of their songs were good before they broke up. Fat Lip is in my top 5 MCs
Finally some West Coast Classics, nothing agaist 2Pac, but there is soooo much more that was happening here back in the day that people slept on. this whole album is a classic of Jazz rap. you should try some Jurassic 5 another West Coast legendary group. As for the Pharcyde, you should do a review of "Drop" probably their biggest hit, but do the Video, it is legendary and the visuals really do the music justice.
The Pharcyde-" Runnin" is a must. Great reaction, Bri! Loving your channel and always look forward to your uploads!.

There would be no Soul of Mischief without the founder of Hieroglyphics Del the Funky Homosapien(who is also from Oakland and Ice Cube's cousin).
If I recall, Pharcyde are from LA, but yeah, The bay area was full of independent rappers who had their own unique sound and flows.
I like your review youngness. Shalom!
