- © 1987 Intima Records. A superb '80s contemporary jazz/fusion classic from Fattburger, and my personal favorite of theirs to date. I've owned this LP since 1987, and the audio you hear is from that LP. This album was a staple on WQXI/94Q Jazz Flavours in the late '80s, with "Fun & Games", "Eva", "Good News", "The Doctor" and "The Whole Truth" all beinng featured on the show regularly way back then. (Fun and Games is still my personal fave...)
A1 Good News 00:00
A2 Make That Dream Come True 05:50
A3 Eva 10:00
A4 The Mark of Zorro 15:09
B1 Rittenhouse Square 19:14
B2 The Doctor 24:13
B3 The Whole Truth 29:46
B4 Fun And Games 33:19
Bass - Mark Hunter
Drums - Kevin Koch
Guitar - Steve Laury
Keyboards - Carl Evans Jr.

Fattburger, Cabo Frio, Spyro Gyra...masters of jazz fusion
Classic 💯 ❤️🔥
Fattburger co-founder Hollis Gentry had a formidable rep as a sax player during his high school years at San Diego's Crawford High, where his classmates included bassist Gunnar Biggs and drummer Hartwell “Skipper” Raggsdale, the undertaker’s son who wore a different suit and tie to class every day of the week. For their jazz band, Nathan East (he would eventually join the bands of both Eric Clapton and Phil Collins) also played bass, and a young Carl Evans joined on piano.
In 1969, Gentry helped found the local funk band Power -- alongside Nathan East, Carl Evans, Jr., and Skipper Ragsdale -- going on to tour with Barry White, Nancy Wilson, Al Jarreau, Joe Sample, David Benoit, and Larry Carlton, among others.
Fattburger was founded in 1984 by Hollis Gentry and Carl Evans, Jr., along with bassist Mark Hunter, guitarist Steve Laury, and drummer Kevin Koch. Just before this Good News album was released, Gentry was replaced in 1986 by Tommy Aros (the Luis Miguel band), while Laury would be replaced in 1990 by Evan Marks.
Although Gentry's full-time role with the group was relatively short, the connection remained strong. He appears on nearly all of the first fourteen band albums, including the 2004 release Work to Do.
It's a testament to the band's affection for Gentry that even though he had long ceased to be a full-time band member, his picture still appeared on the bio page of the band website. By the end of the decade, he was helming his own band, Neon, which would release a self-titled album on the Nova label in 1989, as well as touring as a hired gun behind Al Jarreau, Larry Carlton, Stanley Clarke, Joe Sample, and more.
Hollis Gentry died in the fall of 2006. After Evans died in April 2008 from complications related to diabetes, he was replaced by keyboardist Allan Philips, who made his live debut with Fattburger in late June, 2009.
Thanks for the fairly IN DEPTH HISTORY that links so many of my jazz music together !
Wow...thanks for the history lesson....so miss those years..
A great album. Fattburger got me hooked on this type of jazz.
Fatt Burger at the top of their game!! Smooth Jazz at its finest!!
This sounds more like Fusion Jazz to me lol
Hundredth like! Fattburger is one of the best fusion jazz groups in the pile
"Good News" Interlude 👋👋
A master piece of an album!
Very uplifting yes 🎧🎧🎧🤪🤪🤪🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🎹🥁🥁🥁.
first track great groove!
I have the very old CD in my car. Traveling music to me. Every chance I get.
Always listened to them back in the day
Nice! This one is another we can't find on line!
New upload from Kyle? Good News indeed. Big thank you from London, UK
the mark of zorro is such a great track
Thank you for uploading this one. Fattburger started my jazz fusion journey. I too own this one on CD. It sounds incredible. Fattburger’s Intima days were just the best. Love Living In Paradise and Time Will Tell too. Your channel is epic and has introduced me to so much new music.
An awesome one from this super group!
Another Fattburger's record - many thanks Mr Kyle!
Another awesome album. Thank you so much for sharing it with us
One of my favorite album :)
U g h yeeesssss😊
When Jazz was Jazz....
This freewheeling release definitely set the standard for the Fattburger sound! You can't help but feel great when you listen to the title track alone--other faves are the midtempo "The Doctor," and the wistful "Eva." Thank you so much for revisiting one of the best contemporary instrumental projects of the late '80s, Kyle...such a great, cohesive band. You've done it again. Blessings to you & all!
❤
Finally, we waited for something new. Thanks!!! 🎧👍👍👍
Thanks again, Kyle! 😎
I only know the first track because Spotify recommended it to me on a “best of” , this is a great album! Thank you!
This channel always bring Good News and Good Jazz!
One of my favorite bands. Have most of their cds, even old albums. Don't know if they stopped after losing Carl Evans Jr. Always tried to get Mark Hunters bass tone but never quite made it! lol.
DO NOT make music like this anymore. Boy do I miss the 80's and Jazz.
An masterpiece!
Awesome sound
I always imagined that "The Whole Truth" was a spiritual succesor of George Benson "Stand Up" :) Very perfect combination.
It does sound similar
The 3 songs I find stands out the most from this album are "Eva, the doctor and the whole truth". The rest are good too can't count them out but not better than those three. All in all you can't go wrong with this out of print and perhaps hard to find album.
Thank you!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I was feeling down and this is exactly what I needed. Thanks Kyle!
It's Reminds Me Of Limelight Atlanta Georgia Nightclub From The 80s And Early 90s
Thanks for sharing.. Please do You have the playlist?
Amazing thanks for this!
❤❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Is there a limit on how many times I can listen to this??
Who is the lady doing the amazing vocals on A2? Sounds like Phoebe Snow?
Ella Ruth Piggee, Who sadly passed away in 1988.
Brilliant album. Any idea who is doing lead vocals on Make That Dream Come True? Sounds like Noel McCalla who also did a few guest spots on the No Limits record by Mezzoforte.
Those wonderful vocals are by Ella Ruth Piggee (1950-1988).
HELLO, I WONDER IF THERE ARE OTHER TH-cam CHANNELS LIKE YOU THAT OFFER SUCH BEAUTIFUL ALBUMS WITH US? WHICH CHANNELS WOULD YOU RECOMMEND? BEST REGARDS
I recommended "Paradise Is a Frequency"
Xerf Xpec was a great channel for Japanese Fusion but it is now closed . There is a revival though but not quiet the same.
@@joaquintakanaka Saw it revival as Xearching for Sounds. At least it's better than nothing 🙂
@@kidwaryodproduction Yes, and there are some blasts from the past, namely his Fusion Mixes (Sailway, Yatabe Tracks, Pit Stop, etc) Those alone are worth of tens of hours of great listening and repeat :)
@@joaquintakanaka Can't help that Japanese always very strict on everything, Uploaded anything about them (Especially Tatsuro Yamashita) would be deleted quickly than Thanos snap his fingers.
Fortunately, Lots of japanese music scene started to more open in music streaming scene.
Who does the vocal on make that dream come true.
That's the great Ella Ruth Piggee (1950-1988).
@@harpkeyAl Thanks 👍
