    Just curious, have you ever glued the two hooves together to create extra support??

    • @TheHoofGP
      @TheHoofGP  ปีที่แล้ว +285

      No - it would hurt them - the digits move independently of each other so it would create a HUGE amount of pressure on the axial (inner) wall of her hooves

      Never glued a cow's hoof together but I glued my fingers together that didn't feel too good and it took me like 2 days to get them apart all so much love from Staten Island New York stay cool out there people

    in my years of watching, this has got to be the smoothest fix. I see some red, but it doesn't look like it's hit corium, and the pain level disparity from before and after have to be STAGGERING. Agonizing before vs a perfectly comfortable after? You love to see it. All there is now is just time for the hoof wall to regrow, but it doesn't even look exposed or vulnerable.

  • @RachelM-Head
    @RachelM-Head ปีที่แล้ว +75

    Graham, you should have a hoof pick with you for this reason, so you can pick out bigger stones or debris, from cracks without dulling your knife. ❤

    • @redwitch12
      @redwitch12 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I was mumbling the same thing to myself--I've been around horses, so I know how useful and surprisingly versatile a hoof pick can be when it comes to sparing a good knife edge as well as getting into spaces where the knife has trouble gaining leverage :D

    • @Mokiefraggle
      @Mokiefraggle ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, absolutely this. They're the perfect tool for getting into narrow grooves, and digging out both the big stones _and_ the grit-filled dirt compacted behind it. Plus, they have much better leverage for popping those nasty little rocks that get wedged into the hoof out, versus the longer blade of the knife.

    It looked to me like the hoof on the pasture-raised cow has a slightly different composition than the barn-raised cows. The pasture-raised hoof looked relatively softer and a little more translucent than i've seen on barn-raised hooves. I would think there would be. It's the first time i noticed it though so i was pleasantly surprised i did. Keep up the excellent work, Lads! Thanks for sharing it with us all!

    Hey Graeme, I really appreciate your channel. I grew up on a farm in granite-country New South Wales Australia with a typical herd of 30-40 cattle (all wild rejects from stock sales), between 4 and 10 horses, chooks, dogs, and between 800 and 1200 sheep depending on the season/shearing etc. I love watching your channel with my 12 yr old girls and "townie" husband - because it helps us connect with my farming past - and all the grotty, fun, painful, visceral reality of farm life. Thank you so much. It's so great watching you support your kids, wife, extended family! Well done - seriously.
