- In this special one-off spin-off from Creepy Bad Endings, we go to topsy turvy world. Here, video game developers decide that after putting their characters through Hell and back to avoid getting a bad ending, rather than let them enjoy the peaceful world they have created and reward the player with a happy ending, they give them a bittersweet ending that is actually worse than the "bad" ending. The two games featured in this video are the only two examples I can currently think of where this occurs.
In the good ending, Mr. Hyde is finally put to rest.

But then I got older, and I know better, now.

King K. Rool: Falls into a swamp and nearly dies
Also King K. Rool: Is barely alive, falls into an extremely hot (and probably radioactive) reactor core and then somehow escapes on a boat minutes later.
You see K. Tool’s super armor in Smash? That shit’s probably what’s keeping him alive at this point, like Darth Vader.

Baldur's Gate 2, Viciona's marriage ending.
The ending text says she gets killed years after her marraige to the main character. That's not a very happy ending.

DKC2 is an awesome game. That laugh always creeped me out as a kid. The whole game really. It's so much darker than others.
Asterisk Trine The whole game kind of has a creepy aesthetic. It's the pre rendered sprites and the digitized SFX that give it an uncanny, unsettling vibe.
But overall. A GREAT game otherwise!

Oh man, I loved diddy's quest (on the GBA mind you). But K. Rool? I was stuck on him for over a year.
When I finally made it, that donkey kong punch was the greatest thing ever.
Also, everybody who grew up with these games eventually turned into cranky when they saw the piss easy stuff the next generation got. Major respect, Cranky.

Hey git, I think you missed one: Gamma's ending from Sonic Adventure. All the other characters achieved something: Sonic and Tails took out Eggman for the time being, Knuckles restored the master emerald, Amy got even with Zero(The green robot, not the Mega Man X character.), and Big rescued froggy. What happens to Gamma? He's killed by Beta's final attack. Even though all the endings were saved, Gamma's death made the ending sad.
There's not exactly an option for a good ending for Gamma, so it doesn't count. Even then, it was still happy in a way.
Actually Gamma manages to achieve something in his ending not only does he finally free his Brothers from a life of servitude but unintentionally plays a huge part in reuniting the Flicky Family seen/mentioned in Amy's Story

Given, Git, if you didn't do anything about K. Rool in the lost world, he woud've used the Kore's Power to attack DK Island. He probably wouldn't attack you if he escapes. He didn't till DCK3. Besides, he would have attacked earlier if you didn't get 102%!
So where is Lovely Bad Endings? There's creepy bad endings and lovely good endings and creepy good endings, so the saga needs to finish with Lovely Bad Endings.

Fun fact: On the GBA version of DKC2, the ending is different. K. Rool tries to escape with his ship, but suddenly, Funky shows up with his Gyrocopter, and drops a huge bomb on K. Rool's ship, completely destroying it.
In the GBA remake of DKC2, Cranky shoots down KKR's ship with a plane, so its a happier ending.
We were all led to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on NES thanks to AVGN
So I grew up with DKC2, and I mean that. With an English copy, to be precise, as a non-English speaker (English non-speaker?). Beating the game was a shared effort between myself, my mum and my sister, neither of which speak English, and a major bonding activity. I personally put enough time and effort into it that when I finally put the game down and booted it some seven years later, I still remembered all the answers to Swanky's Bonus Bonanza through pure muscle memory. So a _lot_ of time. It solely contributed to my love for 2D side scrollers (and, consequently, dislike for 3D and first-person games) and many of my treasured memories are tied to it.
Considering all this, it shouldn't be a surprise that it took us quite a lot of time to discover everything, and I happened to be the first one to reach the true final level (imagine my shock) and (after a few tries) the ending.
I love the ending. It's both creepy and beautiful. To this day I love the... can you call that a still shot? Whatever it is, I love it. And I personally don't think it's a bad or disappointing ending; you managed to take K.Rool's base down and chased him off. Yes, he escaped unscathed (somehow) and will likely be back, but that's better than having him still there.

Honestly, I just interoperate the classic DKC endings to be "Eh, sucks he got away, but we got what we came for, and that's what matters."
Well, that explains why Kremcroc Isle is so tiny in DK64 - it's a fragment that K. Rool fished out of the water.

Well, in the normal ending, Cranky DOES imply K. Rool isn't gone with his "I would have made sure he never pulled a cheap trick like that again!" line. For all we know, you could have stopped him from doing something worse. Still, he does laugh as he runs off, so...

You should do eversion sometime. You have to collect a bunch of gems and if you don't you get the bad ending but the good ending is just as creepy.
Donkey Kong Country 3 was my first video game I ever played! I have played the entire Donkey Kong Country series, but i only entirely complete the third one.
MediEvil 2 for the ps1 delivers on unsatisfactory completion endings as well. Perhaps the non-completion ending, which is typical alls well that ends well, is a reward for finishing without the gattling gun, which is what you get for a 10th chalice, and is easily the strongest weapon in the game.
Not even 007 dropping 006 (aka Alec Trevelyan) was as awesome as DK punching K. Rool! I always love to see the bad guys get what hey deserve.
In the original Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it's implied whatever Hyde got up to offscreen was already being done by the "civilised" Dr. Jekyll before the concoction was made. Given the social "norms" of the time, however, what Jekyll was doing could be anywhere from holding hands with a boyfriend to eating children (a thought/joke I partially stole from OSP). Not too much to do with this video, but that does seem to be overlooked in most adaptations of Jekyll and Hyde, despite it making it far more interesting.
Personally, I feel the most terrifying "good" ending is Bloodborne's first possible ending. [SPOILERS] If you accept Gehrman's offer to be released from the Hunter's Dream, it won't cause Flora [aka the Moon Presence]'s machinations to stop. It won't cause the shitstorm enveloping Yharnam to stop. Gehrman will have no hope of ever escaping. It won't even let the Good Hunter fully escape.
I'm really suprised they were able to get away with that.

I beated 102% with my brother in DKC2 and yes, i was dissapointed that in the real ending Krool escapes, compared that in the other ending he "dies"
What about Cave Story's normal ending? Not the Best one. The one you get first time playing and you don't know how to save Curly, so you see the island crash to the ground with her in it...

I don't think the 102% ending from DKC2 was that disappointing. It was just a transition to DKC3, giving you more information and a cliffhanger for doing more work. Oh, well, maybe I'm nostalgia blind. It is my favorite game of all time, but whatever.
If you was the developer of this game you wouldn't want to delete that ending, unless you wanted fans like "DUDE THE CASTLE EXPLODED AND K. ROOL WAS IN FRNT OF HIM DUDE IT'S UNFAIR TO SOMEONE COME BACK WE DIDN'T KNEW THAT HE WAS DOING"

Starting from Simon's Quest, there were. The best ending had Simon visit Dracula's grave, and it reveals the bit where a hand comes out, the second one reveals in text that Simon will succumb to the curse later on, and the third one has a gray sky and the text reveals that Simon dies, and it is the only one where Simon is not in the scene.
