    My grandpa passed away in this mall. Had a heart attack on one of the benches next to my grandmother. Hard to see it going to waste.

    Very sad. That mall was the go-to place during the 80s, when I first moved to the area.

    There was a movie theater there in the ‘70’s. It was smaller. I remember seeing Xanadu there and then going to get the soundtrack album in a record store. They remodeled the movie theater into what you see. I discovered Chick-Fil-A there. My friend worked there through high school. Another friend worked at Things Remembered. I can still hear and smell those beautiful fountains in the middle of the mall. It was a great place to go to throughout my formative years and into adulthood. Lots of fond memories for a lot of people.

    I am from north county and I use to go to this mall a lot. One thing worth mentioning is from 1948 to 2006 there was a ford manufacturing plant in Hazelwood, which is the next county over so its pretty much right there..car manufacturing plants usually run 3 shifts and employ thousands of people with great salaries...when that plant closed you saw alot less money going around north county including Florissant. So this also contributed to the delcine

      my wifes grandpa developed mesothelioma from working at that ford plant. amazon demolished the toxic ford plant and turned it into a fulfilment center

    Live out in the Alton Area, and James Town Mall was one of the larger malls in the area (larger than St. Claire Square). Alton has a small mall, but even that is being repurposed into other things and has no stores upstairs besides The Cookie Factory and Oglas). Remember when they really started to wall off whole areas of the JTM, and the fountains were once really nice. We went to The Mills when they opened, up until they closed too.

    Growing up in the 70s, my parents would take us to this mall on rare occasions (typically we would go to West County, Crestwood, South County or Chesterfield malls instead which were much closer). At that time Jamestown was quite a nice shopping center. Sad to see it in this state today, but it is nice that you guys documented its interior before it's inevitably torn down. BTW: the bookstore was probably either a B.Daltins or Walden Books at one time.

    So many memories of that mall in the late 90s and early 2000s. Spent a lot of time there as a kid. Pretty awesome arcade till they replaced it with a movie theater. Still saw lots of movies there. That whole area is a sh*t hole now. North county in general is now. Shame. Great place to grow up.

    You mentioned that Demolition plans have fallen thru. when you shined into the store at 1:15 if you noticed all the light fixtures are open and the bulbs missing this is an early sign of impending Demolition thats coming.
    Demo companies have to remove all hazardous materials from the building prior to just ramming a bulldozer into it. Fluorescent bulbs contain Mercury (Periodic element: Hg Mass: 80) is considered hazardous and must be removed and disposed of properly.
    Really does suck it closed and ultematly they chose to demolish it rather than gut it and repourouse the space.

    • @exploretheabandoned
      @exploretheabandoned  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I was talking about plans falling through I was more referring to renovation plans. It definitely seems like demolition is the most likely outcome at this point.

    • @jburd8310
      @jburd8310 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also noted that a small bulldozer was pushing all the lose derby to the center of the hallway, leaving no floor fixture or carpet/tiles. Demo is underway already at the time of the video.

    There is a video from 2014 of a guy going into the same little room you guys went into and I could match the same objects and all the film you found. The video is called "UE - Abandoned Jamestown Mall" by backyard exploration. It was very eerie seeing the same objects now vs then. At 10:12 he walks into the film room.

    crime was the death kneel of this place. nobody wanted to shop there because of the roaming gangs of young men and store owners left when theft got too high. eventually the mills, as a mall, also closed. we have two active malls in St Louis now, down from around 10
