#jumpstreetpodcast #skating #skate
My personal opinion for SOTY is I feel it should be more of what they did for rollerblading and the impact they had on the year. We had some skaters this year starting companies, running companies, filming and editing for companies, filming parts, ext because i definitely feel like it’s a popularity contest at this point and I’m not saying SK doesn’t deserve it but I do feel like there’s other skaters who’ve done more for rollerblading this last year and some weren’t even on the board for SOTY. Again my opinion.
Who would be your nominees?
Well said
I'm just gonna say it, would have been nice for the community to give it to Cudot, I think we are all aware that he had a remarkable year & no skater went harder really..
Considering how personal skating is, I think it makes sense to judge SOTY based on who pushed themselves the hardest. That might take the form of creativity, novelty, spots, amplitude, etc but ultimately not everyone is pushing in the same direction so you have to look at each realm through it's own lens (TH-cam sections, contest wins, social media, etc).
SOTY really took a step forwards this year and its so good to see! Itll only grow in the future, and i cant wait to see everyones creativity and skill show throughout 2025! (I might even put a pair of skates on again!)
I had a thought, we run it like we do every year. We vote for soty from there yearly accomplishments. then we take the top 5 skaters and they all film an edit which we then vote for who think is the top edit 🤷🏼♂️
Where’s the DynoVFR4K interview?
I say vote for who you thought was skater of the year. If the community is the one contributing to the prize pool then the community at large should be able to vote for their favorite. Everyone is going to have their own personal criteria for why they voted the way they did and that should be just fine
Jeff Dalnas put in so much work this year and dominated the big street comps. Hes also one of the few skaters still doing legit hammers every weekend. In the end it just seems to be a popularity contest.
I mean his starter jacket collection is better than anyone else's 🤷
I was surprised he wasn’t included too. His skating is amazing and puts out loads of great content. Respect to him
It was more interesting to me that Tom spoke more about the pro boots and the accomplishments of both street and park, for the women, than the men. There hasn’t traditionally been as many edits from the woman.
The men’s prize seemed to me (and confirmed by the poll he did with his viewers, who picked video parts as the most important thing) to be ‘who released the best TH-cam edits in 2024’. That doesn’t qualify the term ‘SOTY’ for me, personally. I think we’re wider as a sport
$100,000 prize pool
He didnt even go upside down tho 🤷
You're more than qualified to judge. You could be our next Ledoux with some of the things you've done in your life. Insane.
My idea:
Whoever wants to participate in the SOTY award has to film a section and send it to an specific SOTY edit nomination (similar to WRS edits) and then let people to vote. It's not a perfect method but I think it would make easier the voting and would allow more excellent skaters (but not that popular) to gain more presence in the scene spotlight. There are many good skaters not even considered.
There should be awards for pdoductuon, products, wheels... best tricks
Jon Julio is my sentimental skater of the year for opening a shop in NYC and having an event during fashion week to further get the public eye to acknowledge rollerblading. Sean is my actual skater of the year, if I had to show someone rollerblading in 2025 I’d show them a Sean Kelso edit
And that is how S. Kelso is doing something huge for the public eye too, and therefore for the community. Yes, he is going down his (almost) one footed "rabbit hole", but his edits are so well done that they look amazing even if you don't have a clue about rollerblading and how completely insane are his tricks.
Billy for that recent section..
im the best.
No bro I'm out shredding you and actually uploading footie.
@kevincollins8620 buy my pro skate I need a Porsche
SOTY shouldn't be skating 5 stair handrails
Who did you have in mind?
@@DirectedByRocko talbott
Would 6 stairs be satisfactory? I think we need to be clear on the specifics
@that_which_is_not No. I don't believe pro skaters should include handrail clips in their parts if said handrail would be perfect for a beginner's first handrail
