    I just bought a ring on ebay. It has a black stone set in next to the 10k stamp. Also has 1KS stamped. Dr. Lori do you know what is with the black stone on inside of the ring?

    Dr. Lori, I thought you said the Tiffany lamp appraised for 100,000 dollars not a half a million (500,000 dollars), this can be found said in your youtube video titled ((Value and Find Antique Silver Thrift Store bargains by Dr. Lori)) posted June 16, 2019, did I miss an update appraisal somewhere?

    • @t1mema
      @t1mema 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Ok. So now We all have a question..
    The question everyone wants answered is now that we are home from the thrift store all excited that we have bought this set for $50 which is worth $350, where do we sell it? How do we find the buyers with $300-$350 interested in the pieces we just found?

  • @stuartlee6622

      Values are based on actual sales records where people have paid that much for that object. You are right an asking price is not an appraised value. My values are based on the completed sales. If you're not getting these values, you are not selling to the right buyer.

    Dr. Lori, I have been actively collecting Vintage Costume Jewelry for over 40 years since college. I have thousands of pieces. I'm very well versed in the prices and value of the current market. I have watched several of your videos lately and you are inflating value in today's market. I can't figure out where you are getting your figures from because they are not realistic. I don't sell, I buy very frequently. I know what pieces are actually selling for currently. Prices are down particularly with the onset of Facebook marketing. I am buying up a storm. I buy from well known dealers and more elite venues to Facebook unknowns. Never paying the prices you claim.

      Yup. She definitely inflates prices. It feeds viewers' dreams of finding treasure for pennies. Maybe it's the area I live in, but Belleek is EVERYWHERE, and is never priced at what she claims here. I have no idea where she's getting these prices from; Belleek is high quality but it isn't rare, and at least in my area, the market is saturated.
      I also agree with you about jewelry. The best deals I've ever had on jewelry are from vendors who make their money by selling in high quantities. They don't want to spend a lot of time researching each piece, and sell everything for similar prices. It's not that they don't know what they have, it's that they have so much to sell it's more profitable to price things to move. Even then, the best deal I've in the last year has been a Trifari brooch I bought for $15 that sells on Ebay for about $50. A nice deal, but hardly a found treasure I could retire on. Vendors know what they have, and if they sell for less than market value, it's because they'd rather have a sure sale than something that sits for months. And as you said, between Ebay, Etsy, and Facebook, it's a buyer's market; the prices she quotes are often just ridiculous, as any search of sold listings on Ebay will usually bear out.
      I really do think Dr. Lori knowingly inflates prices because she knows it's what the audience wants to see.
