Thanks for the cool video. I am a HVAC tech so I have alot of experience with gas combustion and welding and was thinking about somehow making a fire tornado but after seeing all your effort and expense I have deceided to give that idea up .As a side note, I welded legs on an old washer tub and put some ventilation holes in the bottom. When a wood fire is burning in it, it develops a pretty good draft that brings in alot of oxygen into the fire and reduces the smoke considerably. A process called primary air, the same thing that makes a gas flame burn clean and blue. Without this primary air, a gas flame will burn yellow and sooty and the combustion gas will be full of carbon monoxide from incomplete combustion
I have a suggestion for you: splitting the glass in 2 is the hard step but you can even avoid that. You can use a glass tube and the impeller of a centrifugal pump as base. the air will flow-in through the impeller end therefore with vorticity. If you get the right impeller (or just reproduce it with baffles, being static is not that hard as buinding a real impeller)it works really well.
This is a really great idea. I was trying to figure out how to build a fire pit for my yard in such a way that it would have a cyclonic effect, and I figured I'd have to rig up some kind of sophisticated turn table. I'm going to try basing the shape on this design.
Lol. This comment is not irony btw. It is just an unfortunate coincidence. Satire would be better since it is intentional. There is nothing unexpectedly contrary to your comment, it is just hypocritical(hypocritical depending on what words are ACTUALLY typos, that is.)
Glad you used a GFCI on that angle grinder! Not too safe. LOL. Great job with the video! You can duplicate this using a few plates of glass standing vertically by leaving small spaces between them.
This guy is amazing all these vloggers etc doing pranks making money but finally we got someone who amazes us every time a lot to learn I hope TH-cam are paying u well lad.
Lone Wolf WRONG, if you want to get technical then here it is...a tornado specifically has to form from a cloud to the ground, hence why they are called funnel clouds till they hit the ground and why water spouts are not called water tornadoes as well dust devils are not called dust tornadoes. This would properly be identified as a fire devil or fire whirl. It is a whirlwind made from fire, and since air acts as a fluid, a vortex.
TheBackyardScientist - the trick to getting the glass to break along your score lines is not using too much of a temperature difference. I make drinking glasses out out wine bottles with this method. If your scores are clean the finished product is spectacular. Hope this helps in your future endeavors!

boric acid for green. You can buy a glass scoring tool for $5, but you need to practice a ton and you will break 9/10 vases. it is possible, just hard, and its a good skill to learn.
Go to Amazon. Look up HEET. Buy that. after that look up "Dremel" pick one you like, and buy that. Should come with the wheel, but if not, you can look up "diamond cut off wheel" and buy that. All without even leaving your house.
I would definitely not recommend using the hand glass cutter option. It's nearly impossible to get a clean cut on a curved surface. Also, I don't think you stressed enough the importance of proper physical protection when cutting glass. Long sleeves, gloves and safety glasses are a must. I would strongly recommend a face mask as well since the glass slivers get everywhere, and glass in the mouth is extremely painful.
never use gloves with grinders & rotary cutters; and roll up your sleeves, too. if you're worried about it shattering, wrap the glass object in masking/painters tape.
Shadi2 actually gloves and angle grinders is one of the exceptions to the "no gloves or clothes near spinning tools" warning. I believe leather glover are recommend, if not required PPE. A better suggestion would be to always keep two hands on the grinder at all times!!
@TheBackYardScientist you could carve out of wood or 3D print a base that holds the flame source, the glass sets recessed into the base, and then a ring on top that recesses over the top of the glass without blocking the air from going straight up. you can then drill a hole, if you're careful, and use pins to secure the base and lid, and it will be a solid object that you can pick up and use as a mantle piece or decoration
HaHa !! that was great !. we made a big version of this a while back for a video shoot, it was 4' wide by 10' tall but was oil burning, never thought of making a mini like this, that's clever !!!. also if you need advice on patents I can help you, I have alot of experience in that field, just shoot me a text. edit: I just saw the patent thing was a joke ...haha.
if you can think of any other material that meets the requirements of 1)transparent, and 2)heat proof, then go for it. also, tell the world, because a lot of other people will want to know.
I did something pretty similar using a centrifugal fan, a little container to hold the fuel, and a "cylinder hurricane vase." No need to cut glass; the centrifugal fan was where the spin occurred. The idea came from the "Fire Tornado Science Demonstration Show" video on TH-cam (most likely the one coming up next, or at least in the links to the right, but easily searchable).
Originally used just a normal hurricane lamp glass cover thing. BUT the top part got hot a lot quicker than the bottom, and it shattered due to the heat difference in the glass. facebook.com/Sylencer/videos/10156207739870052/
instead of glass you can use polycarbonate. much easier to cut and work with, fireproof enough so long as it's not got direct flame touching it for prolonged periods, and cheaper. lots of candle cups and tea lights are made from them so you can buy them straight from DIY candles supply shops.
My son added this, which thinking about your content has me a little worried...but seems that he takes after my love of science! Keep of the amazing projects. Kids don't do this at home. LOL
The glass only breaks when it gets rapidly heated or cooled. The heating from a flame is rather gradual, so it shouldn't crack unless you pour water on it.
It's not a paradox, nor is it free energy. Energy levels ALWAYS want to find equilibrium, whether it is high energy or low energy. Areas of high energy will always work towards getting to areas of low energy if it has a way. Areas of low energy do virtual work on areas high energy by pulling the energy towards it(abstractly, not in reality, it is just a functional way of looking at it). This happens until both areas are at equal energy levels. Don't confuse this with positive and negative electricity, which is labeled back assward in regards to 'positive meaning greater energy', which isn't the case. Since you are adding energy to the system(heat) by burning fuel, that is where the energy is coming from to pull the cold air in. Vortex's are just the most naturally efficient system for air to move, which is why it is so great at cooling itself. Since air is moving over the glass so fast, the top of the glass may actually feel cooler to the touch, but only because it is pulling heat off your finger, it is acting like a heatsink. The bottom of the glass will still be very hot, and may burn you if you touch it.
To cut The glass i used fire and water, i took a lighter and made a line with The flame where i wanted IT to crack and then put IT in some water so if you don't have any of the tools that he has shown i think that this tecnique or however you write this Word might be helpful

David Treder True, but if this was a macroscopic scale, this would be a tornado
