I was expecting he'd use the mirror trick and have the mirror on a stand way above the flame
Actually slow motion camera's like Phantom needs a huge amount of bright light, which means, its sensor already itself is a Big 'Light Consumer' Thing. At the distance he put the camera for a few seconds and judging by the brightness of the recorded video, I say it's completely safe for the camera.
It would have been a trouble if the flame touched the lens. However, the way he did it, it was pretty calculated and worked perfectly.
This killed me too😂 his pull shots were quality tho

I posted this question above, before I noticed a teacher in the comments.... In what way are physics and chemistry related that the colors in the flame, all coming from a mixture of chemicals in the bucket, would arrange themselves into the same color-order as refracted light, i.e., ROYGBIV? In other words, why rainbow in fire?
@@_spacegoat_ My first guess would be that the order is just a happy coincidence, and that we have stacked colors like this because the materials, and therefore their flames, are of different densities

Fires - of all colors - activates something primal, and personal _deep_ inside the dredges of our primitive souls. It is beautiful.
It's absolutely mesmerizing. The perfect blend of predictable and unpredictable.
If you played an endless loop at some ridiculously slow frame rate, you could get at least 10-15 minutes before it starts "freezing" up. They did it with lightening & he said it take like 300 years for it to cycle through 1 flash.
If these fire tornados could somehow be bought to be a screen saver, I would totally buy one. Those tornados look phenomenal.
I love how this shows how air has similar fluid dynamics to water. The colors in the flame tornado are because the different gasses created by burning the different chemicals have different molecular densities and so much like liquids of different densities you get a layered effect. It's truly a beautiful thing to behold in slow motion!
I don’t think that has anything to do with the colors because they are all dissolved in the same mixed liquid at the very start. None of the chemicals he listed are liquids, they’re all metal/metalloid salts with very high melting points, presumably dissolved in the fuel. What’s happening is that the fuel is burning and carrying small amounts of the cations that make up these salts into the flame, where they are excited by the heat of the reaction and in turn emit light to give the pretty colors. I honestly can’t figure out why strontium should be at the bottom, followed by calcium, boron and copper with such clear bands. I do know it has nothing to do with their combustion products though, because these salts aren’t flammable to begin with and don’t decompose at such low temperatures.

Those flames are the artwork of nature. Even if there weren't different colors. Hours long videos of that nicely framed would be a wonderful supplement to those famous fireplace videos.

What an amazing time we live in that we get to see these sights that no human being has ever seen before in the history of mankind because it all happened too fast. I would love an Imax release at some point of just all the amazing shots they have gotten over the years. I must say though this one is up there for me in terms of awesome visuals.
3:08 - I don't know if Gavin noticed the interesting effect the fan blades have in the film. I especially like the far fan just left of the flame spout. It has to do with the fans spinning so fast, we only see the fan blade positions by what the frame gets.
Actually, when I record a video of a fan at 960FPS with my Samsung S20FE, I see the same thing happening before my eyes.
@@ibtidaahmed9684 It's not your phone. It's an artifact of the blades spinning faster than the framerate being recorded (And the framerate we can see with our eyes.) It's a pretty cool effect.

My favorite videos are when you do things involving color and fluid like things. Whether it is dye in water, colorful paint, or fire with chemicals, these are always the best. Well done once again!

The US literally only opened airspace to vaccinated travellers 2 days ago. They might've been able to get round it by claiming 'business purposes' but, as we know, US authorities (and most other countries) don't really count 'online influencer' as a legit reason for business travel - even before the pandemic.

Because the flame is so clean it creates a beautiful optical illusion. It looks like different areas are spinning in opposite directions. This was an amazing video!
look into the black pot - imagine the red flames are being drawn in from another dimension on the other side of that pot, and what's shooting out is from that dimension. lovely coloured flames, intriguing to see how they all react.

That's funny: When Gav described the column of fire as moving from right to left, it suddenly switched directions for me. Until he said that, I'd seen it turning in the opposite direction.

Yeah, I have a nice narrowband image of the Cygnus Loop that resembled the flame. I thought of it immediately while watching.
I was sort of expecting him to just stand there at the end and say "Now to wait for the sun to come up."
4:14 that was so cool that as you approached with the flame, the sheer vapors caused the flame to change colour as you approached it. watch it slowly.
Even more than the colours, what I was fixated on was how translucent it was just like Gav said. The fact that you could see it spinning in both directions felt like I was watching a simulation. Reality is just that crazy

UK restrictions haven't been the problem for a few months. The US has only just started allowing vaccinated travellers into the country in the last few days
