    I took and passed my Tech Ham exam at 6:30 last night. The worst part was getting everything ready. Used a bathroom that we totally cleaned out. Had trouble with feedback as had not muted INTERNET microphone. The volunteers were very helpful and the exam seemed easy in comparison. Thanks again for inspiring me to go ahead with the exam. Ham Radio Prep really helped and I had seen everyone of the questions in practice exams.

    Thanks for the video. I have been using the same ham study site kind of for info but have not been sure that i want to take test. You have made me decide to take it. Also enjoy your jeep and trailer adventures.

    This was very useful. I’m going to get my license now. I went to get it years ago when you needed to know Morse code. I just didn’t have the time or patience for that back then.

      I studied my ass off for morse code and could never get it. Eventually gave up. It was still a lot of studying, but at least I managed to get through it this time.

    I have the background and it took me once for the tech, twice for the general and twice for the extra…… it was hard to study with my work schedule. But once you get it you’re done and just need to renew every 10 years.

    Hamsters running on wheels had me belly laughing. Good pun

    Interesting, cheap too. Don't know what I'd use it for though. I carry a CB and only listen to that when on the road.

    I only got the technician license as well because I too am not trying to contact Australia. Just want it for trail comms and to fully understand how to use repeaters, which could come in handy in an emergency (though I also carry a Garmin InReach Explorer+ satellite messenger with 24/7 SOS monitoring service).

    Dam you I failed my ham test yesterday by one question.

      I probably only passed by one question lol

      But you passed, I wish I could say that today. I refuse to study today, clear my head and start studying again tomorrow. I’m 68 so it’s not that easy. I had questions I believe we covered that. Roll the dice .

    What is the advantage(s) of HAM vs just using GMRS?

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Ability to use more powerful radios, the frequencies used, and more available repeaters with some of them linked nationwide

    skip , sideband takes me back to the 70s and a Starduster + moonraker 4 + Royce Base and a 500 watt kicker (shh) ;) these days I just paid for a 10 year GMRS license WRXXxxx is my call sign of course the x's are placeholders.... gets me the legal right to use 50watts and additional chanels etc.
