    Good lecture... One most important thing I would like to add is that while driving the driver if he is following few cars ahead then it's a must for him to keep THE DISTANCE FROM WHICH YOU HARDLY ABLE TO READ THE NUMBER PLATE OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF YOU this distance is acceptable and will avoid many accidents. This will give enough timing to your brain to apply breaks. At the same time you should keep an eye on the following cars too.
    This is my 40 years experience I am sharing with you. And be very careful while overtaking or on steep curves. May the lord be always with you...

    Great bro. Some corrections and additions:
    1) Often during sudden braking, we'd also want to press the clutch, so keeping left foot on dead pedal is not applicable there.
    2) Try to keep sufficient knee-joint angle always. Should there be an accident, our legs would take heavy impact force, and if legs were straight, I presume it can cause more damage.
    3) The benefits of knee airbags are debated. Make a wise choice when buying a car.
    4) Novices can often press the accelerator instead of brake, so it is good idea to keep the right foot floating over the brake unless accelerating.
    5) Get a good feel of the pedals when driving a new car (new for you). Some cars have the pedals placed closely, some have them apart. Its easy to misjudge, especially in emergency situation.
    Extra point: For those who are interested in braking distance, once the car wheels lock, it is sliding friction that is in action. Normally when the wheel roll, it is static friction. Sliding friction is always less than static friction. Hence the increase in braking distance.

    • @ranjithpks
      @ranjithpks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      1 -> never press the clutch while breaking. When the vehicle is in gear, there is a good amount of engine breaking.
      4-> if you put the leg over brake all the time, the chances of overheating and wearing the brake slowly is very high. Not advised.

    • @yeswekey
      @yeswekey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ranjithpks Hi Thanks. (1) yes, true, although my comment was specific to sudden brake situation. (4) My comment was to keep it 'floating' (meaning no pressing). This is certainly possible when driving barefoot, as I use to do in early days. I could feel the sensation of feet touching the brake pedal, without exerting an iota of force.

    I would suggest while braking, always press the clutch. In emergency situations, the last thing you want is the Engine to switch off and pressing the clutch ensures the Engine stays ON. It also acts a safety measure if you accidently press the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal. Even though I am an experienced driver, there have been instances in the past when I pressed the accelerator when I wanted to brake, but was saved because I had pressed the clutch pedal as well. This is something I follow while both, driving a car or riding a motorcycle. Always use clutch when braking.
    As for the rest pad, I recommend not using it. Rest your foot by placing it on the floor. If there's a need, it's very easy to just shift your foot back on the clutch quickly. When on the rest pad, it takes time to get your back feet back on the clutch pedal. Those few milliseconds are precious in critical situations.

      @alfaandomega10 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In emergency/ life-and-death situation, your first priority should always be to reduce speed ASAP. Engine stalling should be secondary, unless you are being chased by assassins 😉. You must first hit the brake in such situations and then when the speed is under control or manageable, press the clutch. If you already anticipate braking like speed breaker or slow moving traffic ahead or city traffic, you may press the two together. But, anyways prioritise brake. On the highways, you may not even need to touch the clutch, if you don't have to come below 70 KMPH on top gear.
      If you press clutch at high speeds, it disengages the gear and your car is then in free flow, driven entirely by momentum which is quite high at high speeds and no assistance from engine for braking. This can be dangerous, especially downhill or on winding roads. Braking first saved my life once, from an out of control bus which I missed just by inches. I was in speed, so braked hard, ABS got engaged, pressed the clutch when speed came down to 40-50 and stopped just in time. All happened instinctively and I only realised sometime after stopping that engine was still running 🙂. Keeping your foot on dead pedal will invariably prioritise braking first. BTW, I have been driving for 15 years now

      So freaking dumb, never brake with a clutch.

    • @aaassaeer
      @aaassaeer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karannkshah Sure. I will continue doing that because it has saved me on a number of occasions. And our modern car engines are too smooth to have any engine braking. Anyway, let me know if you ever accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of brake in a real emergency panic situation. I know people who did and all of them had a common ending

    Nicely explain very crucial part of driving.
    Yes you are right these situations comes up and i have already trained myself for that type of braking, it does not only help with accidental situations but also you can use your brakes more efficiently that way.
    Jisti zarurat hai utna hi brake dabao isse ride bhi comfortable banti hai.
    So times i have braked suddenly but due to this technique no one in the cabin get to know ke bhai accident hone wala tha to isse panicking situation bhi nahi banti hai.
    Keep up uploading videos like these.

    Loved this video Gagan .. Two points that came to my mind are . (1) People in panic press both break and clutch completely.. this also locks the wheels. I've trained myself to press the clutch at the last moment, gives far more better breaking in the car and bike. (2) The dead pedal placement in some cars was so bad that the foot gets stuck behind the clutch while trying to bring it on the clutch. Hence i lost the habit of placing my foot on the dead pedal.

My scooty stopped and skid due to LOCKING of BREAKS on a wet road.I fell down on my right side & all this happened.So what you are telling is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Good Video. Actually very useful information. Earlier I had a Beat LT Diesel (Non ABS), fortunately i have a habit of Linearly depressing the Brake Pedal even in Panic situations. I have carried forward the same braking method in my 2nd car - i20 active (ABS) as well. It really works (i was able to change directions of the car even in last minute by evenly braking and depressing clutch fully at the same time)
    Gagan bhai.. Regarding the Dead pedal, you said in panic situations , we must brace ourselves by keeping left leg on Dead Pedal and evenly apply the Brakes but i believe we need to depress the Clutch pedal everytime we brake (including panic situations)... otherwise engine will stall/turn off suddenly with big Jatka. So dead pedal ideally should not come into picture during braking at all.. Dead/rest Pedal is meant for resting left feet only during relaxed Highway/city driving. Please correct me If I am wrong..

    • @zwngsar
      @zwngsar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't not press clutch while breaking you will loose additional braking power in the form of engine braking. Press clutch only when the car comes down to stalling speed afterwards if you are a seasoned driver you will know when the car is going to stall.

      Tested method never press clutch while breaking... Bcz u will loose contact frm engine and ur vehicle can skid too much... So never use clutch when car is ar 80 or above... Yes during 20 to 30 speed u can use clutch as well as brakes...

    • @udaynair1
      @udaynair1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sahil Miglani ...Yes, I totally agree with you and Jacky's comments.
      On my recent trip from Bangalore to Yercaud, I tried the suggested braking method, I realised that it is very effective n much faster way of slowing down or even to come down to sudden halt (panic situations) using only brakes (linearly applied) while the left leg was on the dead pedal till there was a need for gear change.
      Also as rightly said in this video, when clutch is depressed along with brakes, I felt the total response/feedback from engine is cutoff making us feel smooth disengaging of gearbox, pedal feel but not so confident looking at the slowing rate of speed /stopping distance. Only brake method gives lot of feedback from tyres, brakes (even abs sometimes), I could actually feel that car is making a good effort to slow down at a faster rate as anticipated by driver.
      I also realised that at highway speeds or driving downhill when we use clutch and brake combination (usually taught by driving schools) for slowing down the car, the stopping distance or slowing speed response is comparatively lesser than the braking only method.
      However I still use the clutch-brake combination for slowing down in bumper to bumper traffic of Bangalore. A feeling of stalling the car remains in mind using " only brake method " in slower speeds.
      It will take some time to unlearn certain driving style initially taught by driving schools. :) Thanks Jacky n Sahil for valuable comments. It did help learn the correct method n increase the life of clutch.
      Thanks Gagan for making this Video....it may be an eye opener for many who still continue to follow what driving school trainers taught them for stopping/slowing the car.

    Bahut hi sahi cheez bole ho bhai. Few days back, I posted on FB asking my friends not to change lanes if there's a braking situation as others behind you would have calculated the braking distance and you closing down the distance might result in skids and crashes.
    A friend replied, keep changing your tyres and 20K Kms and grab the brakes, that would help. My response to this said, I have soft compound tyres which ask me to change at 12-15k kms and if gravel is there even ABS would fail to arrest the vehicle's momentum.
    That guy fell silent post this. Now I saw this video, and I am pretty sure there are a lot of dumb£@*#£ on road.

    Good informative video Gagan ji. But am surprised you did not include leveraging engine braking in emergency situations. Although heavy on the engine, but it has saved me a couple of times from roaming cows and saands. As soon as you start braking, you keep a tab on speed, and change to lower gear when situation feels ready, and then use a combination of brake and clutch to involve both the mechanisms. This seems complicated for an emergency situation but once mastered, it does improve braking efficiency. Although cars are getting increasingly intelligent, but just wanted to put this out here.

    Usually i am.not used to comment.... But seriously this point can make the deffrence between drive the car..... And run the car..... In india mostly people dont have traffic sence... Dont hqve exact idea of their car's majerment.... I surprised when i saw people driving without opening the side mirror.... And most horrible when i saw them overtaking from left side in highway like yamuna express way.... Nice point to make people aware... Keep it up 👍
