Giraffe horns are not actually called horns, but ossicones which are boney projections of the skull covered with furred skin. Both female and male giraffe have ossicles.

My mother bought Desert Rose when I was a teenager in the late 60's or early 70's. She had a huge set, it came from Rich's Department Store in Atlanta if I remember correctly. Value went up and up and about 30 years later, she sold it all for really good money when down sizing. I am so glad you got these pieces.

I got my first set for of Dessert Rose for 50 dollars at the thrift, it was place settings for 24 each place setting had 7 pieces. It took 5 totes to get it all home. Unfortunately it was the newest stamp made in china, I fell in love with Dessert Rose so I sold it all on Facebook marketplace by dividing it in to 3 sets of place settings of 8 . I sold each set for 200.00 then I used the 550.00 profit to buy myself the California stamped set I have now . I have place setting for 8 plus serving pieces tea pot coffee pot , serving bowls and platter, Salt and pepper and cookie jar also a couple of pitchers . I found several California pieces in antique stores and on Facebook , It took me a while to get the ones I wanted. I am always on the look out for unique pieces to add to my collection.

It's nice to see the different prices at goodwill's across the country. The one I have access to in MN is insane. I look at newer things and see them priced higher than I could buy brand new. Hehe. I miss the days of .99-5.99 and once in a great while something extremely precious at 9.99. This happened after a new CEO took over. All of the board members are from Target, J. P. Morgan, US Bank...mark the prices higher so people don't have room to re-sell I guess is their thing.

Hi Karen, I know this is an older video but I wanted to let you know some info about the Duck Tray made in Taiwan. I recently watched a video of a gal who sells vintage and she went thrifting and found a mid century modern teak wood tray that was made in Taiwan and it’s actually worth $260. After I watched her video, I went to look at my thrift stash and found the same exact tray made by Dansk and I realized what a treasure I had that I paid $1.99 for at Goodwill! So the moral to my story lol is that a lot of mid century Modern teakwood came out of Taiwan. I just thought I would let you know that for future shopping. 😁 That Duck Tray was probably worth some money. I’m actually going to see if I can find one just for fun.

Good china/dinnerware is sold by the piece or place setting. My dishes that I use (and have used for nearly 50 years) were purchased at different times from different stores over a period of several years. Sometimes I would get a place setting or serving or accessory piece for a birthday or Christmas present. Due to the fact that the same pattern was purchased over a period of several years, the company may well have changed the markings. I don't think it effects the value or that one marking would be worth more than another as long it is the same pattern and manufacturer.

The Franciscan Desert Rose has so much nostalgia for me. My grandmother had the desert rose, the apple, and the starburst dish sets & she would use them at different times. The starburst set was always used at holidays, the apple set was for every day, & the desert rose was for birthdays & other special occasions. I have so many memories as a child helping her in the kitchen & being told to never put any of the pieces in the dishwasher. They were all hand wash only. Sadly, as much as I wanted some of the sets when she passed, her children (the generation prior to mine) got first dibs & since my mother didn't want any, they all went to my aunt so they'll be passed down to my cousins, which I'm absolutely fine with, as long as it stays in the family:) Thank you for the nostalgia, Karen. xo

I bought Cornell dish set for Christmas. I heard they were very durable. Well I dropped a plate and it shattered into a hundred pieces. Some even went on the counter. My husband was standing in from of the food so he sheltered it but he had a spot of blood on his leg were one piece hit him. I was so surprised and not sure if I should contact the company for a replacement. My friend said they break like glass. I think my regular plates would break into 3 or 4 pieces. My sister has been buying that pattern you showed at garage sales. Now I have to be very careful with what I thought would be durable dishes.

One color is always 33% and the other is 50% off the ticketed price. When you walk in look at the TV monitors eventually a pic will come up letting you know the color discounts for the day. I write it on my hand. Plus for every so many dollars spent there is a 10% discount on your total spend. Also check and make sure that items are or are not being sold in sets. You can tell by looking on the tag. I am a reseller on Ebay and get so many deals at 2nd Ave.

Furnace Filter: make a file folder on your smart phone and take a photo of your filter (Size is usually printed on the edge), with your phone and you can carry such info with you for any and all such items you might come across for yourself, while thrifting. I do it for such things as trailer tires sizes, special light bulbs, etc. that way if I see what I can use, the info is with me.

    • @brianhenry2385
      @brianhenry2385 2 ปีที่แล้ว

I've used this system since I got my first Smart Phone. Good candidates are things you, your house, vehicles or garden equipment need routinely, such as Spark Plug/Filter info for your lawn mower, Fridge Ice Maker Filter, Water Filters, Furnace Filters, etc. It also works well as a place to keep photos of items like Electrical Panel Circuit Breakers, so you know the type your house uses. A lot of this type of item ends up at Garage Sales and Thrift Stores, still New in the box, at really discounted prices.
I use the same folder for photos of items I need to pick up at the hardware, so I have a picture of the broken one with me and the file works as a reminder of what I need, so I'm not standing at the hardware, trying to remember why I walked in. So any time my wife, or I say: I need to find a "fill in the blank" I take a photo of it, or put it on the eBay watch list, to have it with me.

Williamsburg Pottery was at one time a small pottery that specialized in salt glazed reproductions of the sort you would expect to find in nearby Colonial Williamsburg. In form and color, the items strongly resemble antique or vintage salt glazed stoneware from around the world, particularly Germany. Some Williamsburg Pottery actually is vintage, as it started in 1938. The whole thing has been redeveloped into a tourist attraction in its own right. I have not visited, but it seems to generate some negative comments. Nonetheless, much of the pottery is handmade using the old-fashioned, wheel-thrown technique and usually features traditional designs. Some is valuable, some is not. I would not pay much per piece for these, but if you can get them cheaply they can be flipped. A tankard style mug recently sold for $35, while a set of 4 sold for $28.40. I guess it depends in part on what the seller's original asking price was, and the visibility of the store (if the algorithm likes you).

You are in my neck of the woods. I make a weekly trip to this store. While the prices have gone up a bit there are still the color tag discounts as displayed on the monitor. I’ve found some really great buys here. Three pieces of All Clad plus the lids for $20.00 total. A gorgeous Chanel bag in brand new condition for $20.00 which I had authenticated. I will never top that one. A brand new complete Cutco utensil set for $12 and so much more. Did you also go to the Goodwill outlet and the LIberty Thrift store nearby?

Which one is this? I know there is on here in New Jersey right outside of Philly. I went there twice and didn’t find much either time.

@@shannon_w. This is in North Wales, PA. I’m pretty close so I go often. I Don’t always leave with something but it has been the source for some incredible finds. There is a Goodwill outlet about a mile from this store where I can usually always find some good things.

@@paulabodden8142 ohhh ok thank you. I am in South Jersey about 15 minutes west of Atlantic City. My closest Outlet store is in NJ about 10 minutes outside of Philly. I have never been there but I hear that the “regulars” run the place so I have been kinda put off by that. But I will go someday.

    • @paulabodden8142

@@shannon_w. you should check it out! I’m not sure how regulars run the place. I think the key to any thrift store and great finds is being able to go often enough to catch some change in stock. But you could certainly find some great stuff with one visit. If you go there though definitely go to the goodwill bins and the Liberty Thrift store!

Those little tufts on giraffe heads are ossicones. Although a lot of people call them horns, they aren't really horns!

Mouse traps, not usually much value, but I had a few New/Old stock packs branded: Bigfoot, with the Sasquatch image on them. I listed them as novelty “Bigfoot“ trap gag gifts and they sold in a few days. Lot of Bigfoot fans in the Pacific Northwest.

Ive been leaving a lot more behind, just the fees selling, unless I can triple my investment, or more. I used to buy everything I thought was pretty, I'd get some things for me, some things to sell, now, with the prices at Goodwill, I sometimes have one item I'm cashing out, or leave with nothing. Prices have gotten ridiculous. They were boutique pricing shirts with stains on the front. Yeah, it could have been worth $9.99, without stains!
