I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.
I just replaced my jbl xtreme battery with 5000 mah battery now available at Amazon for $30.00. I'm happy with the performance, no bass loss, no distortion. It's playing on high volume for 8 hours now still going good. Thanks for this video.

Warning! When removing the battery cover on some models watch out not to damage the black paste holding it back, this is the connnecting wires for the battery charge indicator. this video didnt inform me and i ended up just ripping it off before realising it wasn't just glue. otherwise good video, had to play it in 0,5x speed for most parts not really needed to fast forward the whole process.

This video is a great demo! My JBL Xtreme was not maintaining a charge and decided to do a DYI repair after finding this video. A replacement battery was ordered and viewed the video to properly complete the repair (note: A pry tool is a must. Also, I did not completely detach the battery cover becase of the LED charge indicator connection). Xtremely Satisfied!!!
Helped out alot. Speaker now works fine. Did a reset after new battery and no issues with it. U can buy the battery from Amazon. Took me about 45 min to do the replacement

I had mine replaced 3 times before the warranty was out. Even bought a $300 set of JBL headphones. Never again will I buy JBL. Sure the sound is great but they dont last very long.

A few of things I encountered during my change-out....When taking either end cap off to expose the circuit board connectors, be careful not to let butterfingers punch in the dust caps on the little speakers...Also, I could not re-position one of the end cap rubber seals because it broke upon removing the cap. I wrapped a couple of layers of ptfe thread seal tape around the main housing area where it meshes with the end cap. This can be procured at Lowe's or Home Depot, etc... Some Velcro to hold the battery in place is also not a bad idea. No vibrations, working like new.
For those who are wondering why The Xtreme battery uses a 5000mAh when the specs shows 10000 The Xtreme actually has a 2 x 5000mAh batteries, placed parallel. Both are 37Wh (7.4V), and together effectively operate at 10.000mAh, 74Wh (3.7V) Basically The Xtreme works in double voltage hence 5000mAh represent the same amount as stored energy in 10000 mAh

I installed the CS-JMX100SL battery yesterday and it really is a very simple procedure when you have the right tools and instructions. When I placed the speaker on the original JBL 19V / 3ah charger, only 2 LEDs lit with the third one flashing after 5 hours connected ... 4 LEDs lit when I disconnected the charger. This is normal? Should I leave it connected for longer? Is there any type of conditioning that must be done with the battery on the first charge after installation?

Forgot to add. Cameron Sino battery is not covered in the foam as on the JBL original. I popped a length of sticky back felt to hold it nice and tight. Glad I double checked before putting it all back together as there is slight movement which could vibrate.
Mine was sitting on the shelf before I finally replaced the battery. It lights up when on the charge, but as soon as I unplug it, it turns off. It's as if there is no battery. The buttons are all unresponsive when on the change too.

But there are two separate batteries built into the speaker, and each of these has 5.000 mAh. Connected parallel, this would result in a battery capacity of 10.000mAh. But instead of this, they connected them in series, which creates the double amount of voltage but does not change the mAh.

The battery itself has 7.2V and 5000mAh, but the speaker runs on 3.6V and uses only half of the Voltage and thats the reasen why they say 10.000 mAh.

Downgraded the capacity to half of the original capacity but it still work. try replacing using lithium ion 18650 3,400mAh/ pcs X 4.then you have 13,600mAh.
It's cool it worked, but the calculation is wrong. If you do a 2s2p configuration of 4x 3450 mAh 18650s to achieve the required 7,4V of the original battery pack, you will get 6900 mAh in total, which is 69% of the original battery capacity. You would have to cram in 6x such 18650s in 2s3p configuration to get 10350 mAh.
Anyone have any idea(s) as to why my JBL Extreme first stopped charging - even though the AC charger is attached to my JBL and plugged in an electrical wall receptacle and shortly thereafter, my JB automatically stopped playing and completely shut off only minutes after I turned it on... I replaced the factory battery with a Cameron Sino - but it still won’t charge and it still stops playing and shuts off only minutes after turning it on... To be sure, I plugged my cellphone charger into each of the 2 USB ports on back of my JBL Extreme while it (my JBL Extreme) was plugged in an electrical wall receptacle - via my AC charger... However, my cellphone doesn’t charge while plugged into either of the 2 USB ports... Is the problem possibly due to a bad AC charger ? I called JBL customer service about all this and was basically told that I was SOL because my JBL Extreme was now out of warranty by only 2 months... Bummer... I bought it new at Best Buy and it was expensive, so I would hate having to give up and chunk it in the trash can.... Thanks :) Tom
Is the original battery a LiPo, too? LiPos is absolutely fail, because they loose so much capacity after short time if you store them fully charged, it is dangerous, too. LiPos have to stored at 30% capacity if you dont use them for longer than 1 day. So i am not wondering that all batteries are dead after 1 year (mine too now). Why not using LiIon, so much more lifetime and safety and even more batterytime.... WHY????????
I did the replacement with a battery ordered from Canadianbatteries.com - $42 CDN - instructionsarer perfect and even though its a 5000mAh battery it works great. Looking as the original battery I question whether it was a true 10000maH and based on its performance it was a piece of crap for a speaker that in retrospect I should have bought a Sonos 1 or 3 instead.

i doubt their claims of 20w per channel with a 7.4v battery. probably not even 15w.... most class D amp chips rated for 20-25w are rated that at 19-20V (hence a 19v adaptor...) and at that you're looking at 10% THD... so it would sound like shit. 18w at 19v sounds about right for 1% THD probably. unless they use a step up to 12-14v but then that drops the capacity to like 6-7000mah and not 10,000mah. oh well.

Funny! 3450 X 4 capacity 13800mAh. But the voltage is only 3.7V.not 7.4v

Alan Santoyo I used 4 18650 Samsung battery's 3450 mah total of 13800 mah. On max volume I can get 7:30 playtime.

i doubt their claims of 20w per channel with a 7.4v battery. probably not even 15w.... most class D amp chips rated for 20-25w are rated that at 19-20V (hence a 19v adaptor...) and at that you're looking at 10% THD... so it would sound like shit. 18w at 19v sounds about right for 1% THD probably. unless they use a step up to 12-14v but then that drops the capacity to like 6-7000mah and not 10,000mah. oh well.
digibluh maybe it gets more potency when it's plugged on charger, it has a 19v charger.

OEM battery is shit.. Yeah gotta admit it sounds great. Now im having thoughts whether to get a new battery or sell it at stupid low price then get a new one.. I'll avoid JBL for the time being until they improved their battery quality
