    Hello, i just did this battery replacement and it works! I will give some more info. I replaced the Lipo for the LG INR18650-HG2L 3000mAh - 20A which costing around 50% less than the brown ones in the demo. And another very important issue i was dealing with, my battery pack was slightly to big for its chamber caused by wiring. Therefor the lower lid could not seal properly and AIR was leaking when playing music loud. So resonance distortion was the result. I almost gave up, thinking my speaker was blown. So keep in mind the casing must be sealed completely!!! I used EPDM kit at the base of the inlet cable assy battery pack. Succes everyone, succes Léon

    Did this 2 years ago... But never ever it will fit like you shown or the shown xtreme isn't sealed anymore. The passiv speakers loose a lot of power if this case isn't correct sealed. I had to remove a bit of cover both sites to get the seal close enough together with no little air gap. Other option would be to seal the hole and let the encloser with this gap.

    Love the video... I'm not sure the average Joe can do this repair. And even though the battery exchange is really the most technical part of this, I'm not sure a local electronics shop would b worth the money they would charge to do it. Obviously it's gonna be less expensive to change the battery vs buying a new speaker, I would just need some help doing the battery switch itself.

    • @Jwk2211
      @Jwk2211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Although it's awesome that he replaces the cells themselves, new (pre-wired) battery packs are also freely available online! This means you only have to do the screws and clips, the new battery will look exactly the same as the old one upon removal and simply snaps into the socket.

    • @tanktheram
      @tanktheram ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jwk2211 the point is: the factory battery is Lithium Polymer this pack he's building is Lithium Ion. Lithium Ion is a safer battery, and does better with charge discharge cycles than LiPo.
      I personally don't have the ability to build a Li Ion pack, so I bought another LiPo from Amazon. Would be nice if someone pre-made ion packs and sold online 😉

    I'm a bit suprised, i did many conversions like this, but the 18650 cell pairs did not fit inside right away, without some dremeling.
    Also, if you planning on using the speaker for years to come, you should definetly put in a 2s balancer. The lack of it, in the original bms is what causes the lipo cells to die so soon.

      What is a 2s balancer?

    • @M0rtin67
      @M0rtin67 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@gartheligon140 @Garth Eligon It is a little circuit, that is either a separate circuitboard that you can buy and connect parallel to the existing bms board, or it is a function sometimes built into the bit more expensive bms circuits. Its function is exactly what its name is suggesting: it equalizing the cell voltages in a battery pack when the pack being charged. The "2s" simply means how many cells it is design for, in this case 2s means 2cell.
      Without a balancer, lithium cells tend to drift from each other in voltage, and over time, when charging the pack, one cell gets overcharged(and the bms shuts the pack down to prevent an explosion, while the other cell is far from being fully charged). And when discharging the less charged cell will depleat quickly, and the bms will again shut the pack down suddenly, to try to prevent the depleated cell from damage.

    Good job! But I need some clarification. I've seen different schemes on the same issue, there minuses were connected to BM and B- respectively... Pluses were connected to B+ and another BM. Also only two minuses were connected in parallel (for each battery). In your example you have connected all minuses in parallel and then to BM (one BM left alone). Why so different? I bought another BSM, since I'm not sure that stock is still alive. But that new BSM has 4 contacts: B+, B-, BM1 and BM2. So I wonder how to connect it to batteries. Thanks

    Bro, I'm having a fake JBL charge 2+. I used it in my school dance practice for like 3 years. And suddenly one day it stopped working. When I pressed the power button, it was dead. But when I keep for charging, the speaker will not work but the light comes on. What should I do?

      I did this 2 years ago and 18650 don't fit perfectly, bit to high, don't know how he get this sealed again. I had to remove a bit of the encloser to get it back together with no air gap left. Passive speaker should loose lot of power if not sealed correctly

    Lithium polymer chemistry vs lithium ion. Check discharge rate of the batteries, might not be able to deliver enough current for low bass

    • @ihatelols
      @ihatelols 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah lol, even the 3400 mah elements are 6.7a continuous discharge. 4x6.7- about 99watts continuous discharge rate.
      Even laptop cells would probably be enough, as 4 are in parallel.

    • @vaio232
      @vaio232 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      U blind bro, check 2 parrallel two in series 2x6.7amps=53.6watts, if your talking li-ion laptop cells, they provide .7amps continous, you can get 2 amps peak discharge but audio quality suffers due to voltage drop on cells cant handle. Also, series cells needs balancer charger/discharge otherwise one series cells dies because of reverse charge

    • @ihatelols
      @ihatelols 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vaio232 Shit, i forgot the xtreme had 7.4v. Charge 3 had just a 3.7v pack inside of it when i threw the lithium cell on it.
      Most cheap 2200 mah laptop cells peak at 3.1-4amps discharge tho, which is still not enough, right.
      So, those 20-30A discharge rate brown cells would be the way to go i guess. I use them myself everywhere too.

    • @Davidslabofficial
      @Davidslabofficial 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it's possible use higher capacity cell but consider the size so they can fit under the compartment easily

    • @Baldys_projects
      @Baldys_projects 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go with li ion batteries from a Tesla model 3, they are 4800mah each and if you make it like this battery then it will be 9600mah and they are 21700 size so they will fill up the battery compartment but it might need slightly modified to fit them.
      batteryhookup.com has the Tesla batteries for around $3.50 each.

      yes, you must discharge them up to 3.6v to solder safely. with them loaded there is risk of explosion
