Same here but unlike a lot of other movies I loved as a kid, I think this one still holds up today. I can still watch it and appreciate it. It just has a charm to it that few other films can match.

As a former high school musician who also was also a honor role student my band mates use to call me a young Einstein. It wasn't until they played this movie during a practice session till I understand the reference. I really enjoyed the movie. For a few years it became somewhat of a tradition to play this movie once a year when we got time to get together. Unfortunately now we all live in separate states with one of us buried 6 feet under serving his tour being shipped over seas right after 911 to Afghanistan in a fire fight from what I was told. He was the one that originally called me young Einstein. So I still watch the movie on 911 as a tribute.
I'm American and loved this movie growing up. It was a huge influence on my sense of humor. I last watched it several years ago. Thanks Minty for giving light to this underrated fil..

I haven't seen this movie in years, but one of the things I remember is that the movie depicted the Wright brothers as one white guy and one black guy, and they both had over the top Southern accents (the real Wright brothers were from Ohio). Then again, when the whole premise of the movie is that Albert Einstein was a Tasmanian who invented rock n roll and surfing in addition to general relativity, I guess all bets are off.

I saw this movie in the U.S. (at an impressionable age) and absolutely loved it. It’s still a guilty pleasure. Had a crush on the actress who played Marie, thought the villain gave a freaking hilarious performance, loved the parents, still listen to songs off the soundtrack, and quote it. Thanks for reminding me how much fun this flick was. I also love The Castle.

This movie got played a lot on HBO and Cinemax in the summer of 1990. I really enjoyed it, and the soundtrack too... particularly Icehouse's "Great Southern Land". Something about that song, and the movie, just resonates with me, even though I am not Australian. Minty mentioned that "Great Southern Land" is basically the "most Australian song ever". I wonder what would have happened if in addition to "Great Southern Land", John Farnham's "You're The Voice" was also included in "Young Einstein", since you'd have "the most Australian song ever" joined on a soundtrack by a song that I have been told, by Australian friends, is basically Australia's "second National Anthem".

I love the part where he's riding his horse and goes down the steep hill, like that scene from The Man from Snowy River. Love that film, too! The most memorable part of Young Einstein for me is the kitten pie scene. I love cats and was so glad he saved those kittens. How awful! It reminded me of kitten juggling in The Jerk. This and Great Balls of Fire were two of my favorite movies when I was a kid that I never hear anyone talking about. It's a crying shame how unnoticed some classics have become.
I think the only problem with this movie is associating the main character directly with Einstein. I wish it would have just meant he as an Einstein i.e. genius, and not some bizarre, fictionalized retelling of Einstein's supposed life. This is why German speaking countries just did not know what to make of it and aptly titled it Einstein Junior. And by German standards calling someone junior does not necessarily make them your son. Yahoo Serious showed us what creativity, vision and following your dream could do!
I remember it being a entertaining family comedy movie. It's sad that Yahoo ended up not doing well after this movie but entertainment is a difficult industry to survive in for an entire career

This was a great movie. Very funny, cool, and a great story. I loved the running apple gag, and the rock n roll aspect gave it a fun angle. The nuclear guitar scene was ablazing.
*and to think most science and physics books tend to overlook that fact...and the fact that you can split beer atoms with a really sharp chisel... fortunately we have this movie and the dedicated research behind it to give us this information that would have otherwise been lost*
Pity he did stand on his toilet, hanging his clock, slipping and knocking his head on the sink, waking up and inventing the flux capacitor......nope that one was left to the genius of Spielberg and Zemeckis....but featured the same kind of crackpot mad-man / genius at the same time.

I discovered it on the January school holidays in 1989 when Cottee's cordial ads included clips from the film for a competition they had going and I loved what i saw on the ad. Then my sister and I begged our parents to take us to see it. So off to the drive in we went to see it in a double feature with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Happy days. Thanks again Minty!
I remember this as a kid I was 12 when it came out and the kids in my school loved it. I didn't mind parts of Reckless Kelly but what got me is Yahoo was to me trying to please his American audience or trying to get a bigger American audience and it's a turn off, The Crocodile Dundee franchise did that too.
I remember that scene in the Simpsons where they see a marquee with Yahoo Serious Festival on it and Lisa says "I know those words but together they make no sense."

I want to let you know, as a representative typical American, I do watch - Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, and Young Einstein alllllll the time. Because they are AMAZING MOVIES, and a good chunk of my childhood. I believe we rented this from the local mom n pop, and my dad laughed...which is like getting Spock to laugh, so thats saying something.
A film critic in the UK stated, 'If he never makes another film in his life, be thankful that he gave us Young Einstein' I mentioned this film to a friend in December 2021, and she was totally gobsmacked that I had heard about it, let alone loved it.
The ocean baths scene was filmed in Newcastle NSW, it made the front cover of the Newcastle Herald and was on NBN TV news back in the day. If I remember correctly that was one of the 1987 reshoots for the film.
When I was a kid I saw this movie and I would act out the part where he drains the bomb with the guitar with my friends playing heavy-metal music. This movie was just amazing and awesome can’t wait to show it to my kids. Great job Minty!

While you grew up watching American movies, I grew up watching Australian and British movies. All the Aussie movies you mentioned I've seen. I've always loved Australia but have never had the chance to visit so I see it vicariously through Aussie movies. Have you ever seen Welcome to Woop Woop? Loved that movie. Low budget but loved the outback scenery. Anyway, thanks very much!
I used to love watching this as a kid. I recently watched it again, good times. I think maybe ppl want you to do a video on this movie not because you haven't discovered other movies, but maybe because we non-australians would like to know your take on this movie.
This is absolutely one of my very favorite films of all time. Admittedly, I may have been one of those to suggest this for "10 Things" and I'm not sorry. Lol You should look into doing an episode on "Romper Stomper". See ya!
If people didn't like it I don't want to ever meet those people. It doesn't have to be a top ten to see how brilliant it was. The main character was unique. The Preston Preston actor was incredible, which also means the script was too! The whole presentation was fantastic with clever shots, fabulous scenery, awesome storyline, amazing music, tiny humorous extra treats throughout (eg the way his mum empties the water, the sheep as she's knitting, the Chinese chap saying "So rong", the sound when he throws that apple, the way Preston kisses Marie's hand, the scratchy blackboard sound etc etc) it was extremely absorbing! Include his hair, name, fitness, multi skills, ...good grief - what do people want???
I LOVED YOUNG EINSTEIN as a kid. I swear I must have watched it every time it came on HBO and rented it more than a few dozen times. I remember when the song would come on MTV and me and my sister would dance and pogo jump lmao. I even liked Ned Kelly-not as much as YE but it wasn't that bad of a movie. Never saw Mr. Accident.

kind of glad i have Mr. Accident on DVD. the opening is pure physical comedy gold. i need to find Young Einstein and Reckless Kelly on DVD if only to preserve that weird piece of history

As a kid growing up in Maine and a fan of British humor and Australian comedy (thanks Crocodile Dundee!) I absolutely LOVED Young Einstein

This was a great movie. Very funny, cool, and a great story.
I loved the running apple gag, and the rock n roll aspect gave it a fun angle.
The nuclear guitar scene was ablazing.
I haven't seen this in over thirty years, but I distinctly remember the Tasmanian Devil scene.
All i remember is that he learned how to split atoms in order to put bubbles into beer. Definitely an Australian lol
*and to think most science and physics books tend to overlook that fact...and the fact that you can split beer atoms with a really sharp chisel... fortunately we have this movie and the dedicated research behind it to give us this information that would have otherwise been lost*

Pity he did stand on his toilet, hanging his clock, slipping and knocking his head on the sink, waking up and inventing the flux capacitor......nope that one was left to the genius of Spielberg and Zemeckis....but featured the same kind of crackpot mad-man / genius at the same time.
I remember watching Young Einstein in the theater. As a 12 year old boy I thought it was one of the best movies ever made. Now I think I need to watch it again

Yesterday I saw the new James Bond! I thought it was unrealistic, a Brit filling up his car.

Thank you so much for making this video! I loved this movie as a kid. I discovered it on the January school holidays in 1989 when Cottee's cordial ads included clips from the film for a competition they had going and I loved what i saw on the ad. Then my sister and I begged our parents to take us to see it. So off to the drive in we went to see it in a double feature with Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. Happy days. Thanks again Minty!
I remember this as a kid I was 12 when it came out and the kids in my school loved it. I didn't mind parts of Reckless Kelly but what got me is Yahoo was to me trying to please his American audience or trying to get a bigger American audience and it's a turn off, The Crocodile Dundee franchise did that too.
I remember that scene in the Simpsons where they see a marquee with Yahoo Serious Festival on it and Lisa says "I know those words but together they make no sense."

Minty, I love you man. Been watching you forever and cant get enough. I want to let you know, as a representative typical American, I do watch - Mad Max, Crocodile Dundee, and Young Einstein alllllll the time. Because they are AMAZING MOVIES, and a good chunk of my childhood. I believe we rented this from the local mom n pop, and my dad laughed...which is like getting Spock to laugh, so thats saying something.

A film critic in the UK stated, 'If he never makes another film in his life, be thankful that he gave us Young Einstein' I mentioned this film to a friend in December 2021, and she was totally gobsmacked that I had heard about it, let alone loved it.

The ocean baths scene was filmed in Newcastle NSW, it made the front cover of the Newcastle Herald and was on NBN TV news back in the day. If I remember correctly that was one of the 1987 reshoots for the film.

When I was a kid I saw this movie and I would act out the part where he drains the bomb with the guitar with my friends playing heavy-metal music. This movie was just amazing and awesome can’t wait to show it to my kids. Great job Minty!

Hey Minty, I appreciate you doing this movie. I'm a big fan of Yahoo Serious. I've even seen Mr. Accident. While you grew up watching American movies, I grew up watching Australian and British movies. All the Aussie movies you mentioned I've seen. I've always loved Australia but have never had the chance to visit so I see it vicariously through Aussie movies. Have you ever seen Welcome to Woop Woop? Loved that movie. Low budget but loved the outback scenery. Anyway, thanks very much!

This is absolutely one of my very favorite films of all time. Admittedly, I may have been one of those to suggest this for "10 Things" and I'm not sorry. Lol

If people didn't like it I don't want to ever meet those people. It doesn't have to be a top ten to see how brilliant it was. The main character was unique. The Preston Preston actor was incredible, which also means the script was too! The whole presentation was fantastic with clever shots, fabulous scenery, awesome storyline, amazing music, tiny humorous extra treats throughout (eg the way his mum empties the water, the sheep as she's knitting, the Chinese chap saying "So rong", the sound when he throws that apple, the way Preston kisses Marie's hand, the scratchy blackboard sound etc etc)
it was extremely absorbing! Include his hair, name, fitness, multi skills, ...good grief - what do people want???
I LOVED YOUNG EINSTEIN as a kid. I swear I must have watched it every time it came on HBO and rented it more than a few dozen times. I remember when the song would come on MTV and me and my sister would dance and pogo jump lmao. I even liked Ned Kelly-not as much as YE but it wasn't that bad of a movie. Never saw Mr. Accident.
I just wanted to say thank you for reminding me of all these great (to my teenage self at least) movies that I had completely forgotten about over the decades 💗
kind of glad i have Mr. Accident on DVD. the opening is pure physical comedy gold. i need to find Young Einstein and Reckless Kelly on DVD if only to preserve that weird piece of history
I still have this on VHS at my parent's house. This was a favorite of mine, and in my early teens I thought this was reasonably true story lol
