I worked with the wonderful John Buechler on many films as a creature effects artist. He was very kind, and fun to work with and be around. I came in on Freddy’s Dead when we did Freddy effects on various victim characters, then worked on Demonic Toys, Carnosaur, Scanners the Showdown, and some other things. John Buechler died about a year ago, and he is greatly missed by many friends and family members.

In the 80's when I was little and had the occasional trip to the video store there were some box covers that would cause me to trip out and stare at them. This was one of them, the fact that the monster was hanging out in a toilet would make me and my little brother laugh our asses off.

Hey Minty, thanks for doing this video. That point about the sunglasses and 3D never even occurred to me. I just thought they were hamming it up for the quirkiness of the characters. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie "back in the day" mainly because I was very interested in the Occult and real rituals and spell casting. The rituals and very accurate circles they used in so many of the scenes really did separate it from The Gremlins in my Teenage experience. I still think the first movie is a classic 80's Horror that deserves a little more respect.

Maybe I was a bit too old to become genuinely scared by the poster with the Ghoulie popping out of the can, but I can sure tell you that it was memorable! THAT is the key to a good movie poster - making everyone remember it! Strangely enough, as intrigued as I was as a 10 or 11 year old kid, I've still never watched this film. Though tonight, I'm going to remedy that...

The marketing for Ghoulies was indeed infamous, but those were the good old days where low budget B films played in theaters. I wasn't confused on who the Ghoulies were, as opposed to Gremlins or Critters. Seen 'em all!
But that poster gave my parents some pause. Looks like crap, they'd say. :)
But hey, it was a PG-13 film...so they let me see it.

I liked gremlins and critters, my kid even had a gizmo furby. Well until it ticked his Tom cat off. However of the 3 movies I've watched Ghoulies way more. With critters coming in second. Having an adolescent interest in the occult it was funny. And let's face it Mariska Hargitay was absolutely beautiful as Donna. Personally it's got some good moral lessons in it. Probably by accident but they're there. Overall I love the movie and now I wonder if it's why my son was afraid of the toilet when he was 1 🤔 Thanks for the video. It was good work and now I want to watch the movie again. 👍

I was just about the point out how similar this movie looks to some of those puppetmaster movies and then you go and mention Charles Band while displaying and sitting with a lot of the puppets from puuppetmaster! I knew I was spot on with the similarities in the environment and little creatures attaching people in one location setting! The first puppet master movie I saw appeared on the Syfy channel and it took place at a ocean side hotel! I was a kid so I just remember worrying about the flamethrower puppet coming through my bedroom door and lighting the bed on fire while I'm sleeping! I also worried about the drill head puppet! I never did like puppets and animatronics!

    Funny story:
When I was younger at around 8 years old, I heard my parents say they were going to watch "The Goonies 2". I got excited and snuck around the corner to watch it (I was supposed to be in bed), and was really confused to see that that movie had nothing to do with the goonies. It turns out I just misunderstood them and thought they said The Goonies 2.🤣

I love how Benson faced off with ghoulies AND Freddy Krueger in one of my favorite episodes of Freddy's Nightmares:):) Yeah, Minty, you forgot to mention Freddy's Tricks and Treats;) She'd be PERFECT for a Nightmare remake as the lead parent/cop where Freddy actually goes after the LAW ENFORCEMENT who killed him and their kids have to rescue them or at the very least destroy HIM in a Monster Squad kind of way! Those ghoulies are ADORABLE, their round bald heads, especially in that little T-shirt and suspenders on the poster, just like MAC wearing his red T-shirt:):)

Just saw ur Rocky IV video. This film Rocky IV messed with kids heads like Return to Oz. Vince Dicola's music was like a mix of The Terminator and Nightmare on Elm Street 3. When Creed gets killed in the ring, my 4 year old self had nightmares but I love this movie so much and a director's cut is on its way. He's cutting out the robot
