In this video, we give Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 the earnest review it deserves. We're not laughing at or goofing on it, we're playing through it sincerely and seeing if its reputation stacks up to reality. Let's join Sonic, Shadow, and Silver in their quest to save Princess Elise and their future, in Sonic 06.

I worked on this video and only this video for about a month, while also working a job and spending a week watching my Dad's house at the same time. I don't usually do this, but if you guys enjoy this video, a like or a sub would mean the world. If not, I absolutely understand. At the end of the day, I just hope I delivered an entertaining, interesting, or enjoyable video to at least one person.

Am I the only one who thinks Eggman's design as an realistic human looks great?
The worst thing about Sonic 06 is that it's development story isn't uncommon. You'd think the industry would have learned their lesson from the fallout of this game, but just in the last 5 years we've had many triple a games come out with stories of overambition, buggy releases, and worst of all crunch and high developer turnover that lead to end products that either disappoints a sizable number of people at best or nobody is happy with at worst. We even saw it happen to Sonic again with Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric. And every time it's almost always the fault of corporate meddling. It makes me sad.
And the worst part is that these franchises don’t get nearly as much criticism as 06 did, especially when some of them were even more buggy than 06

It’s the way character are animated or lack there of. They feel super unfinished. It’s hard to believe sega allowed sonic team to release the game in such a state. People paid full price for beta.

Sonic 06 had so much potential to be one of the greatest Sonic games of all time. You can really tell how much passion the developers had for the game and its story, however due to SEGA’s terrible decision-making in its development the game fell incredibly hard.
However, there are small glimpses you can see from that passion. Particularly, with its stellar soundtrack, multiple main stories, amazing characterisation for Shadow and Silver, Mephiles, as well as the lore. If the game just had more polish, every amount of passion they had for the game could’ve been implemented properly.
Well that didn't happen now did it?

Yeah there's a million versions of His World but I was mainly referring to the main Zebrahead and Crush 40 versions. There are so many to keep track of tho lol

As a lifelong Sonic fan, its always great to see new perspectives on the games.
While 06 isn't the worst Sonic game, it has such a massive reputation for being the worst Sonic game because its one of the first real times where Sonic fumbled and people really took notice (though some would argue that Shadow the Hedgehog is what really started this problem), so seeing you give it a fair shot to see if it was truly as bad as its said is honestly so refreshing to see.

(Also, legitimately surprised that there was no Sonic fandub memes thrown in. Honestly the best way to experience 06's story in my opinion.)

Funnily enough, I was considering throwing in references to the fandub, but I decided not to because I couldn't pick one singular moment to reference and I didn't want a fandub reference every minute. There's so much gold in there that I couldn't make a choice lol
Sonic stumbles more than any other video game mascot that I know of. Whether you like the games or not, it's always a gamble how said game will be received by fans and critics alike. He's absolutely had lower lows than most mascots with stuff like 06, Sonic boom, the Ken Penders situation in the Archie verse and even the original Sonic movie design. But, for whatever reason what so ever, he also seems to have the highest highs. On release he started rivalling Mario in the 90's when Nintendo was king, a beautiful symphony that celebrated the series perfectly, he has the world record for longest comic about a video game character, the redesigning into having the best movie adaption for a video game with a sequel that improves even further from the first, and one of the most dedicated fandoms I've ever seen for a character. Sonic 06 was a bad game, and it wasn't his last bad game either. But eventually he found his footing again and he's still going. I'll be hopeful to see where he goes in the future, I look fondly on everything in his past, and I'm looking at his present with excitement as Sonic Frontier's is just around the corner.

Sonic 06 was never intended to be a reboot. How to you explain how all the characters know each other and seem to have for years? Also, Yuji Naka said it was like Batman Begins, and Spider-Man 2, which is obviously a sequel. People have just gotten confused due to the name. Also, Shadow's character makes a lot of sense considering the previous games.
Just started playing Project 06 this past week, it’s so much better and really shows to me anyways that this basically could have been Sonic Adventure 3. Damn shame about what happened with this game. Nice vid dude. Subbed!

There's crush 40, the zebrahead cover, the start screen version, the main version, the solaris instrumental and blue dream prelude.
Honestly, I disagree about Shadow's line in the story. That perfectly encapsulate a part of Shadow's character. It doesn't matter if he's the her or enemy, he do what's right in his eyes and fight.
Yeah I don't have any issue with the line's contextual place or role in Shadow's story. I just think it's kinda goofy lol.

Like many, I really only knew Sonic ‘06 as “the game that was so bad it almost killed Sonic”. Glad I was finally able to get some perspective.
I didn't know that you lose a life if you don't beat End of the World fast enough. I never saw any footage of the death by time running out on that stage. People always finished it before that would even happen.
Man when I heard this game music and seeing what the game is going make me kinda sad as it could have been atleast a decent spin on sonic. Sonic 06 is example of sonic rather clunky transition to 3D(something that sadly still struggling with). Well atleast games like colors did keep things a float somewhat. Here hoping to sonic frontier being good.

There's no way this is a 4.1 rated game in a fair and reasonable universe.

It sad and funny how a gag dub of this game has munch better writing and story then the main game itself
Also people have point it out if the control were better and not having bug that ruin the game, it could atleast be an “good gameplay, but bad story” game
Trust me as a Sonic fan. Sonic 06 isn't the worst Sonic games. There is another one that outright worst than this by a lot. That one I can truly call it "The other game with Sonic skin"
I like this game, if you know what you’re doing it can be fun, accept for the side characters, most of them are horrible. But in general I think it’s alright.
