Going to Imo’s for a St. Louis style pizza is the equivalent of going to McDonald’s for a cheeseburger. It’s good but not great. So many better mom and pop places you could’ve went to. If there’s ever a next time, maybe check out Faraci’s, Liliana‘s, Roberto‘s, Serra’s, Uncle Leo’s, Farotto's or Stefanina's. All of these are superior hand tossed StL style pizza’s. I’m sure there are several others that are worthy of being on this list as well.

I went to a fundraiser event at/for the zoo years ago that featured around 50 restaurants serving food, wine, and beer. At the end of the night Huey Lewis and the News performed for about 2 hours. The tickets were $250, but once in, we were able to get as much as we wanted at no additional cost. One of my favorite nights.

Comet Coffee is my favorite for coffee. Tower Grove Farmers Market on Saturday mornings is food heaven! For pizza, I love Union Loafers and Anthoninos (not stl style) Those chocolates from Coffeestamp were from Bijoux. So delicious. For cocktails I love Lazy Tiger/Yellowbelly and Brennans. Fine dining, Mainlander, Bulrush, and Nobu's. Elevated dining, Indo and Sado, The Tavern, Cocina Latina, Retreat Gastropub Casual restaurants, Meskerem, Maize and Wheat, Tacos La Jefa, Pearl Cafe, Phoenecia, Soup Dumpling STL Best deli has to be Jovick Brothers Bakeries and desserts, Sugarwitch, Nathaniel Reid, The Foundry Bakery Bar food, Tiny Chef and Eat Duckbill Bubble tea, Cube Tea
Park Ave coffee has a dozen or more kinds of gooey butter cake. not the best, but the most variety. And they are next to the chocolate bar too. (must have the signature chocolate martini there.) For Cafe Mocha, there is Bissingers. Unfortunately swe one closed and the mall one is just ok, but maybe they'll open another store one day. Oddly, I miss the mocha Borders used to have. Picassa in St. Charles is decent.
Coffee Stamp is a good one. Right down the same road (Jefferson) is Sump coffee, which I worked at for a little while and has a sterling reputation for good coffee. One of my favorite ones to go to however is Comet Coffee. Fantastic pastries, great pour over selection, highly recommend.
Literally a block from cafe dolce is Shaws coffee, a small batch roaster and cafe that makes flavorful, delicious, coffee. You missed out! Ok, at least you went to Adam's Smokehouse, though, which is good.
Years ago I lived in Arvada, CO, and they had a St Louis-style pizza there. I don't know if it's still there or not. I think it was called City Pizza or something like that
Never thought of provel as tangy, I always found it more sweet and salty, but i grew up with it, so maybe that's why I don't notice it lol. May i recommend "Lesters", next time your in town? Its in Ladue near Frontenac. It's kind of like sports bar meets Jewish deli, meets BBQ joint. Great food, really friendly ppl, large and comfy environment. More traditional than hipster though.

I would visit Little Italy in south side St, Louis. This is where you can get the best Italian foods and fresh Italian(real) bread. I know live in Kansas City and there is no place that has real Italian bread. HyVee, Walmart or any other store does not have Real Italian bread.

All the best places around here are the smaller places. My shout outs to Tiffany's dinner in downtown Maplewood (Its not the best burger of all time but the insane prices make up for it), the Foundry (okay its not a small or unknown place but still gotta mention it as its a large foodcourt so it has a bunch of places), and lastly The Crows Nest also in downtown Maplewood.

Great video giving me ideas! I love Perennial Brewing but have never had Side Project. Going to have to try it. Press Pizza sounds wonderful, as well. Imo's is great for what it is; I love the crust, but as others have said, there are better STL-style pizzas out there.
Side project literally started as a side project of one of perennial’s brewers around a decade or more ago. It took off and has been his main project since. @DoesntPayFullPrice check out Second Shift Brewing and Rockwell for mixed fermentation stuff next time. If you end up across the river in Illinois, come check out Old Bakery Beer in Alton (not for mixed, ferm, but a wide variety of beer, food, and the town in general.

After living in STL for over a year, I'm wholly unimpressed with STL-style pizza and especially Imo's. I can't stand the cracker crust. Then again, to each their own, because I'm also not a fan of the Chicago pub/tavern style either which is similar. I want some damn crust on my pizza and for it to not break apart when I bite into it.

I always tell visitors to look for the types of foods St.L is famous for. Ted Drews frozen custard of course but you add provell cheese, gooey butter cake, toasted ravioli, pork steaks, old vienna chips etc. Those are the main ones that come to mind. Highpoint drive-in won the best burger in the world 2 years ago but they are so average. We just got back from Italy and the restaurants on the Hill taste better than anything than we had over there. Try the Mama Campisi's 5lb spaghetti and meatball challenge. Best meatball you will ever have. Cal ahead!! At least you did Adam's and not Pappy's. Pappy's has fallen off. Daly's is another off shoot of theirs and I think is their best one. OK, now i am hungry. My daughter and I search the city for the best of everything. Bon Appetit!
"We're not going to the Hill," but the first place you go is coffee on the Hill! And you didn't like it. Had you bothered to walk a block north on Marconi, you'd have gotten great coffee at Shaw's! Adam's for ribs was definitely a good choice. It's where I go to set a standard for my own ribs at home. The zoo is great! And yes it was smart to park south of the highway. The zoo is free, but the parking is dear! Oh no! Imo's is NOT the place to go for StL style! There are so many places that serve a better pie.
I feel like Stl style pizza and toasted ravioli are great as bar food but I don’t think they’re worth making a meal out of. Honestly I wish they were brought up less when people mention the St. Louis food scene. Just my opinion 🤷🏻♀️
The great part of STL food is all of the small restaurants that put their own twist and styles on things. Also as others have said Imos is not the best, and ever since they switched to pre-shredded cheese things only got worse. IMO

As a St. Louisan I feel like this is the saddest trip to St. Louis for Pizza. Really go to The Hill go and find small places in the city but for the love of all that's holy don't tell people to get Imo's . I mean it's fine on a Friday night when you don't have the energy to get a really good pizza but even then I would call somewhere else. Also it looked like you were staying in south city so many good places close by for pizza.
@@DoesntPayFullPrice No Pirrones is a pizza place. There are many different Chinese spots. But the are like corner spots small with maybe one or two tables to eat. Or in most cases no tables..
For people who don't like provel on their pizza (not me) I find that getting a mix of provel and mozzarella, which most places will accommodate, will make them happy. Provel is an acquired taste.

There’s a chain called BJ’s but the western burger or peanut butter something like that is SOOO GOOD. I got one in San Jose Cali but not nearly as good
Im sorry press pizza im sure you pizza is amazing but this isn’t California pizza kitchen. If your pizza looks like a vegan pizza taco im not eating there.
Imos is good but for a thin crust gets expensive. Sausage and Bacon is a staple as they put bacon strips on the pizza instead of bacon pieces, or bacon pepperoni and mushroom is another area favorite. Its not st louis pizza but honestly my favorite places are Joes Pizza and Jets Pizza. There is a place in st louis called twisted ranch and its known for all the types of ranch sauce and you can dip fries in. Its really good. Crown Candy for their monster BLT sandwich and Ice Cream/shakes/sundaes. Lotawata Creek across the river into Fairview Heights IL just 15 miles across the river into IL is really great sit down restaurant and they give so many fries you'll think they made a mistake but they have a whole potato room just for potatoes to cut and make into fries every day. (Fried Mac N Cheese burger and the Heart Attack Burgers are great) Great Thai / Asian Fusion place in Fairview Heights called Tong Phoon. and a great Sushi place called Sushi Tatsu (the traffic on the IL side is easier to navigate lol.
Never thought it’d run into a comment about sushi tatsu on TH-cam lol. I’m gonna have to check out that Asian fusion place sometime soon! As far as traffic is concerned, it is definitely more manageable on this side of the river, but Fairview may be my least favorite places to drive in the whole metro east 😂.
Also everyone needs to give this guy a break he wasn't born here. He did what we do when we go to a new City and do some research and hope for the best.
IMOS is not close to the best pizza in St. Louis. Too gloppy (that's what my wife says) Our favorite pizza is Saullos in St. Charles and Red Oven in Hazelwood. Both are small, family owned.
Also, Walmart, Price Choppers, and HyVee in Kansas City Now sells IMO’s Pizza. That is the best pizza ever. One thing though is that Price Choppers also sells the IMO’s cheese. So you get the cheese from Price Chipper and a cheese IMO’s pizza from Walmart, because it’s cheaper there, add more cheese to the pizza and let it get cannery yellow
I was actually just in Denver. Got myself some Blue Pan Detroit-style. Pretty good! In my opinion, Pie Guy Pizza is the best in STL. I also live just a few blocks from Coffestamp. I love that place.

The next time you get to the Lou you have to try AFFTON PIZZA COMPANY on Reavis Barracks Road west of I-55 in south county. I get so triggered by saint louis pizza. It's absolutely disgusting! Trash cheese and you have exactly 2 minutes to eat it before it's cold. I've worked in saint louis for 30 yrs and tried all the " blank has the best pizza" no they all taste the same,even domino's puts that trash cheese on pizza here. I just made some two nights ago. It's one of my wife's favorites!
5:12 St. Louis style ribs aren’t fall off the bone, they have a certain ‘pull’ to get the meat off, and the bbq sauce is glazed on the grill.
You want a little bit of texture, but it doesn't take much to get them off the bone
Toasted ravioli is not dusted in parmesan, it's dusted in Romano cheese, often mixed with oregano.

@@DoesntPayFullPrice St.L is such a melting pot of so many people and flavors as all city's are. If you asked 20 people where the best pizza is you will get 20 different answers. I always tell visitors to look for the types of foods St.L is famous for. Ted Drews frozen custard of course but you add provell cheese, gooey butter cake, toasted ravioli, pork steaks, old vienna chips etc. Those are the main ones that come to mind. Highpoint drive-in won the best burger in the world 2 years ago but they are so average. We just got back from Italy and the restaurants on the Hill taste better than anything than we had over there. Try the Mama Campisi's 5lb spaghetti and meatball challenge. Best meatball you will ever have. Cal ahead!! At least you did Adam's and not Pappy's. Pappy's has fallen off. Daly's is another off shoot of theirs and I think is their best one. OK, now i am hungry. My daughter and I search the city for the best of everything. Bon Appetit!
"We're not going to the Hill," but the first place you go is coffee on the Hill! And you didn't like it. Had you bothered to walk a block north on Marconi, you'd have gotten great coffee at Shaw's!
Adam's for ribs was definitely a good choice. It's where I go to set a standard for my own ribs at home.
The zoo is great! And yes it was smart to park south of the highway. The zoo is free, but the parking is dear!
Oh no! Imo's is NOT the place to go for StL style! There are so many places that serve a better pie.
Haha it was on our way from the airport, and. It had the highest rating of any coffee shop in town.

I feel like Stl style pizza and toasted ravioli are great as bar food but I don’t think they’re worth making a meal out of. Honestly I wish they were brought up less when people mention the St. Louis food scene. Just my opinion 🤷🏻♀️

The great part of STL food is all of the small restaurants that put their own twist and styles on things.
Also as others have said Imos is not the best, and ever since they switched to pre-shredded cheese things only got worse. IMO

As a St. Louisan I feel like this is the saddest trip to St. Louis for Pizza. Really go to The Hill go and find small places in the city but for the love of all that's holy don't tell people to get Imo's . I mean it's fine on a Friday night when you don't have the energy to get a really good pizza but even then I would call somewhere else. Also it looked like you were staying in south city so many good places close by for pizza.

For people who don't like provel on their pizza (not me) I find that getting a mix of provel and mozzarella, which most places will accommodate, will make them happy. Provel is an acquired taste.

Provel is the ONLY cheese to put on a real pizza, St. Louis style or not! The taste of Provel is fantastic!!!

It's not so much the taste, but the texture that's all wrong with proven. Then the taste hits you. Combined, it is nasty.

Imos is good but for a thin crust gets expensive. Sausage and Bacon is a staple as they put bacon strips on the pizza instead of bacon pieces, or bacon pepperoni and mushroom is another area favorite. Its not st louis pizza but honestly my favorite places are Joes Pizza and Jets Pizza.
There is a place in st louis called twisted ranch and its known for all the types of ranch sauce and you can dip fries in. Its really good.
Crown Candy for their monster BLT sandwich and Ice Cream/shakes/sundaes.
Lotawata Creek across the river into Fairview Heights IL just 15 miles across the river into IL is really great sit down restaurant and they give so many fries you'll think they made a mistake but they have a whole potato room just for potatoes to cut and make into fries every day. (Fried Mac N Cheese burger and the Heart Attack Burgers are great)
Great Thai / Asian Fusion place in Fairview Heights called Tong Phoon. and a great Sushi place called Sushi Tatsu (the traffic on the IL side is easier to navigate lol.
Never thought it’d run into a comment about sushi tatsu on TH-cam lol. I’m gonna have to check out that Asian fusion place sometime soon! As far as traffic is concerned, it is definitely more manageable on this side of the river, but Fairview may be my least favorite places to drive in the whole metro east 😂.

IMOS is not close to the best pizza in St. Louis. Too gloppy (that's what my wife says) Our favorite pizza is Saullos in St. Charles and Red Oven in Hazelwood. Both are small, family owned.

Also, Walmart, Price Choppers, and HyVee in Kansas City Now sells IMO’s Pizza. That is the best pizza ever. One thing though is that Price Choppers also sells the IMO’s cheese. So you get the cheese from Price Chipper and a cheese IMO’s pizza from Walmart, because it’s cheaper there, add more cheese to the pizza and let it get cannery yellow
