It sounds insane but there really is a theory that Blackbeard's treasure was abandoned in this area 250+ years ago and that it could be somewhere in what is now Jefferson County, Missouri. That is the county next to Ste. Genevieve County. The story goes that his boat became stranded in a creek with low waters. Blackbeard buried his loot then tried to get his boat out and back into the nearby Mississippi River but that he never came back for the treasure before his death at 35-40. There were once a lot of river rats in what is now the St Louis area because the Mississippi River was a hotbed of trade with goods constantly coming and going up and down its waters.

@@rowdybroomstick6394 funny you say that, was having a discussion with a friend on WWII Nazi gold and for example a young lady in Austria swimming in a lake found a gold bar marked from the 3rd Reich, also there was a British collector restoring a T-55 tank he bought from Iraq and when he got it to the UK he found several gold bars in the fuel tank. I believe in both cases the 2 people were able to keep the gold.

I've seen better acting performed by 6th graders. This was just pathetic. If this is scripted they need a better writer, maybe someone who actually knows a thing or two about living in that time period.

I had a good chuckle when he said Justine looked like a saintly lady, as I'm sure everyone else did! This was such a fun episode, I can just imagine Justine the lady pirate leading the men to buried treasure. I wonder how the balance of hospitality and safety played out on the frontier.
I was thinking, in Victorian times it would have been unthinkable for a strange man, or any man outside of family, to enter a dwelling with a married woman, or even a single woman.
On the frontier I have read that hospitality was of major importance. No hotels or even taverns offering shelter for the night. I have read other things about hospitality which of course would never pertain to Ron and Justine. Historians even think that some of Daniel Boone's children were not his, that hospitality was offered to strangers during long winters when Boone was gone exploring. In some cases, apparently this was acceptable. Or the historians are wrong. Like I said this would not apply to Ron and Justine. ;-)
@@annalisette5897 That's what I thought, because frontier was such a harsh life in that it was removed from many of the cities amenities (and ills). I didn't know that about Boone's children, very interesting! It seems everyone pulled together as best they could.
@@annalisette5897 There was a huge difference between the mores of the time before Victoria and the time after. I read once that around 1800 at least a quarter of women were pregnant when they got married and that it was no big deal unless they didn't GET married. And regular houses were so small that everybody crowded in together and there were absolutely no secrets.
@@annalisette5897 It wasn't 'hospitality' per se, it was survival, and it changed quite a bit from the beginning of the 1800's to the end of the pioneer era.
@@meacadwell Yes. I used the term hospitality, mentally comparing those times with Middle Eastern rules of hospitality and not turning away strangers travelling through dangerous terrain. Same principle. It is interesting to think how much social mores changed from the early 1800's to the mid to late 1800's.

Ste. Genevieve Mo? I used to pass it all the time when I was a riverboat deckhand. Some people don’t know it but pirates actually used to roam the inland waterways of N. America. There’s a place not too far from Ste. Gen. called Cave In Rock Illinois. It was known for pirates. I’m from W. Kentucky born and raised. We used to hear pirate stories all the time. I know of one wooden sunken ship on the Ohio River near Paducah Kentucky. It’s literally still on the navigation maps.

I live about 20 mins from Mayfield and I can't thank enough people out there for all the donations and love sent out for our whole area. Paducah is progressing nicely, still has the historical small town feel. Lot of new businesses popping up. Love living here. Always will.

I’ve got 2 grandkids who live in Mayfield beside where the old General Tire plant was and my son lives in Littleville near the bridge. I’ve still got a lot of contacts there. Lots of family and friends. I retired from the army and got a place in the Appalachian mountains. Dad used to work for WKYQ in Paducah but got a job with WXBQ in Bristol Virginia. They’re both 24 Carrot Country, lol. I miss W. KY. but it just never agreed with me. Just north of the Brookport bridge is where that wooden shipwreck is on the Paducah side. I think a couple years ago they pulled a few cannon balls from it but the current in that bend is too swift so they had to call the rest of the excavation off.

She had a price tag hanging from the headband she was wearing! She did a Minnie Pearl!! That gave me a good laugh. She has a pearl headband and one behind it with the price tag. Look for the price tag in the dream sequence when she's sitting in the chair looking at her jewels.

For what it's worth, many years ago in our western somewhat ghost town, Virginia City, Nevada, a museum/curio shop displayed what they called a "lock-key gun". This was a long barreled pistol with skeleton key features near the end of the barrel. The story -- um, tall tale -- was that this gun had belonged to the pirate Jean Laffite and that it unlocked a door on a cave full of his treasure, deep in the Louisiana swamps. It was said this gun had been brought to Virginia City by Julia Bulette. Virginia City liked to capitalize on the real life history of Julia Bulette who is said to have been born in England but her family moved to New Orleans around 1830. She was a prostitute...um, sex worker...who had a higher class establishment on D Street. It was said she was an angel of mercy in that rough mining camp on the Comstock. So the town likes to draw connexions between New Orleans and Virginia City.
Not long ago, a steamboat that had sunk somewhere on the Mississippi was excavated. It had been completely buried in mud and the river's course had changed. Lots of fine objects were retrieved. Maybe it is possible Blackbeard's treasure boat had a similar fate. Although, I would think Native Americans might have looted it before it could get buried in mud.
I have also read that Jesse James may have left hidden treasure in caves in Missouri but that's a few decades ahead of 1820. LOL! ;-)
I believe you are referring to the steamboat Arabia which sank in 1856. It has its own TH-cam channel. A gorgeous, fascinating find. My sister and I went to the museum to see the artifacts. Just amazing!
