Hello. I got my lovely Christmas card yesterday, so thank you both for that. I had started to wonder if the one I sent had never reached you, so this was a pleasant surprise. And I still have a poem for Justine waiting in the wings. I plan to include it with a letter in the not too distant future. :-)
I live 99 miles north of Cape Girardeau so yeah, it’s the cold. It saps your strength. And then every other thing is a huge chore to do. I don’t recommend taking a hot shower afterwards because that just makes your muscles feel rubbery.
Oh look at Mishmish in Ron's arms. He loves his Papa. Love you both and always rooting for you, especially during this difficult, taxing time as you're building your future homestead. You're doing excellently❤
Justine, when I’m tired out, I make a sandwich for dinner or open a can of soup. Look at you cooking two vegetables, some meat, and baking a pie from scratch! And all over an open fire!! You and Ron are doing really well for putting in so many hours of physical labor on your house and then going through the effort of creating your videos! That must take a whole lot of energy.
Mish Mish wants outside. That's why he's meowing so much. I have a cat like him. She starts all kinds of mischief if she can't go out when she wants. Mish Mish is so handsome. Mashed turnips are delicious. Add butter and some grated onion. Drain the onion so it's also not watery. After you mash the turnips, add onion, butter, and seasonings and toss into a medium hot skillet to dry it out a bit.

I love turnips. I eat them raw, cooked and mashed. Also I have added a few potatoes in with them when mashing. I gives them a better texture. I've been sick so I made me a big pot of veggie beef (deer) soup for supper today. It sure hit the spot on this dreary day.

In Hesse in Germany, apple wine is a state treasure. It is a sparkling, rather sour wine that is drunk as it is or mixed with a lemon soda to add some sweetness. It is quite good. My mother used to make a foamy cream sauce with it to accompany “Arme Ritter“ - slices of old bread roles that were soaked in milk and almond extract and then breaded and fried in a pan. DELICIOUS!

Mashed turnips are an old childhood favorite. It's important to season well with salt and pepper. I vaguely remember my mother mashing the turnips, then draining more liquid before adding the butter.
IKEA is Scandinavian. Very simple, light stained wood with touches of blue, yellow and red. It comes across as very modern. My son, following our heritage, has decorated his home in a very simple, very IKEA, style.
Yep, it’s very hard right now, but keep telling yourself “just a few months, I can do this. Take it day by day!” Another thing that helps, is making lists every day & checking things off as you do it. That helps calm the chaos

We harvest turnips when they are much smaller. We have mashed them.along with potatoes or better yet, roasted them with other root vegetables.
Roasted is my favorite way to have them!

Mashed turnips are an old childhood favorite. It's important to season well with salt and pepper. I vaguely remember my mother mashing the turnips, then draining more liquid before adding the butter.

IKEA is Scandinavian. Very simple, light stained wood with touches of blue, yellow and red. It comes across as very modern. My son, following our heritage, has decorated his home in a very simple, very IKEA, style.

Yep, it’s very hard right now, but keep telling yourself “just a few months, I can do this. Take it day by day!” Another thing that helps, is making lists every day & checking things off as you do it. That helps calm the chaos
