That GMC motorhome will make a good restoration project. Redone, those are worth good money. Power train is Old Toronado 455 and TH425 trans. Later used Old 403. Well ahead of its time (and still is).
That low miles spitfire is pretty nice! My grandpa has a 1970 spitfire that has 26,000 og miles on it. It was pretty beat and rusty though when he bought it. Now it is completely restored and he painted it for $50 using professional brand rustoleum paint. It looks actually fantastic! Great video!
I think Mr GP spends too much time on easy resto US stuff because TRiumphs are easy to restore with All parts available and that one doesn't look too rusty compared with the Average spitfire project.
The GMC, my local GMC dealer owner has one, it was always parked in building that the dealership owned, this camper was mint, it was this guy's baby and there was nothing wrong with it, very well maintained. The last time I seen it it still looked new. I liked the wooden model plane and Mr. Tin Man.
Bought a one owner 17k mile red '67 Spitfire at one of Thummel's auctions years ago. A friend in Derby retailed it on ebay a couple months later. It went to Southern Cal....at a nice profit. That was a sweet little car.
Spitfire is on my list of cars I want. I can't drive one anymore, but I want one. You were smart to drop out; it'd be hard to get more than $5k for it I think. The older ones are more desirable. On the other hand the parts car was probably worth $500.

That bike is a JT 60. They were bringing 3k years back. I sold mine that was restored perfectly for only $1000 5 years ago. Just the parts on it are worth well over $1000. All the lights are there, those are the hard to come by parts.
I used to work on a motorhome like this one for a friend of mine all the time yes they're kind of neat but they're pretty much worthless they get hung up in the rain the airbag suspension on the back I actually had to join a club to be able to buy the parts to fix it most of the parts are not available anymore it would not be something you'd want to travel very far with
Did you buy the peregaux baby buggy (Pram in english) ? They are still a big expensive brand but those Vintage ones go for $700 Plus in clean condition. As kids we used to chop them down to make trolleys to ride down hilly streets. at that age we were immortal. 12:35, never understimate the value of oriental stuff found in odd places. My mother often bought brass things at auctions decades ago and was surprised when the true age and values were found . GI's bought home all sorts of souvenirs after the war without knowing the values either.
Hey short story about people bidding stuff up at the auction. I've been to several auctions and several States and this one happened to be south of i-70 but before you got to warrensburg Missouri. Apparently this auction company did this quite a bit but they did on this day and according to friend of mine is an auctioneer it's not legal. It's definitely not ethical. They had a couple of guys out there working the crowd bidding things up as if they were bidders and they had their numbers. But they were on the clock for the auction company. Here's one of those pretty decent auctions if I didn't have my trailer with me. I went there for one truck and he sold it to his buddy so quick left 15 of us looking at each other. If I was the seller I'd be totally ticked because the thing was worth at least five times what he sold it for. So then you go for second best and I was interested in it and I was talking with somebody else that I was there with. I know this guy was milling around and I see him go out and talk to the auctioneer. But then they go over and talk to the guy who just bought that other truck that I want it and the whole reason why I dropped everything and went there parrot well he got the other guy to bed against me and I knew he didn't really want that truck cuz he specialize in particular era. Now when it hit the price that I told the other people I was with that was top dollar I was going to pay it rented they ran up there pretty quick. Well that guy had to drive back another hour or two just to get that truck. The auctioneer and the guy you planted in the crowd was over there talking with him and said I'm sorry I really thought he'd go higher and the other guy said well he said he would and as I walked by yeah but you blank the blanks I highly unethical and maybe illegal running up to bids. That truck was still worth buying for about 50% more than what it went for and I could still make money off it! But I wasn't going to reward him. So we've been a good portion of the auction after that just looking and talking among themselves about what had happened. Nothing like that to thin out a crowd. I also before that took time to find the seller who happened to ride back on the property I believe it was actually a relative that was taken care of the auction. Let him over here our conversation that we repeat it 20 times throughout the crowd. He came to us and said is this true really and I go yes it's very true pouring out three other guys with distinctive hats and ask them you probably know them he goes well I do. He went over and each one of them I guess said about the same thing as I had. Now that auction has been 3 years ago roughly. So people bid things up working for the auctioneer is one thing worse than just people who are playing around bidding things up it's one thing to throw out a cheap bed to try to get something and to get the ball rolling. Then it is to sit there and nickel and dime just for the sheer enjoyment and thrill of running the bid up. Thanks for making a comment I hope you don't mind me making this reply. Because you got a 100% correct. Then on the other hand there's where buyers have a gentleman agreement among themselves not to bid against each other and divide the pie up in advance. That doesn't mean something about cider won't come in and bit it up. Now we can debate the ethical properties of doing that as well. But an auction it's where everybody goes to pay too much for a pipe dream and end up getting exactly what they saw too many different times and it wasn't even worth bringing it home for the money. With that being said I still go to them. Happy auction hunting

Oh some of them do have a fair amount of money. But if they're going to take it back to their rust Ranch and let sit a few more years of rust. I don't know why it would be fancy if it's just a rust Ranch. But people do bid things up. I went to one auction for one specific truck. I just happened to see it on the auction bill. It was a popular truck or should have been. There was a second truck that was my backup so I wouldn't walkway empty.. the truck that myself in probably 40 out of 50 people there with wanting to bid on the auction are slammed it down for a third of what it was worth and sold it to his buddy. So I was going to be there in a second one well I bid on it. I knew that the guy was running me up. I was there with two other people and one of them heard the auctioneer and this guy talkin and I dropped numbered I said I would bet it up two. Well they wanted to pad the price. You can see the knobs going on I thought they had some City guy there or something but I was they're at the auction and I've never been in that part of the country. But I'm sure I grew up in the woods a lot deeper than they did. So I let him run me up. And then told him nope not interested. The guy did not want the truck and it was worth every penny of what it hammered for but this guy was going to have to travel an hour-and-a-half back just to get this truck. He came around told me didn't really want it I go I know you're stuck with and now you and you lost your friend ran it up on me and I said before you've lied to me do you see that person over there. Remember him standing by the concession trailer when you and the auctioneer were talkin about it. So anyway he got stuck with a just turned away. That was three years ago as a short bed box body Chevy with a big block in it.
Those GMC motor homes were very popular... They were kinda revolutionary for the day. I think they had a 400 Oldsmobile engine in em. If they're clean , they're high dollar . Unfortunately , most of em are scrapped or parted out . They were very dependable & successful , but GM killed em to make room for other production .
They had the Olds 455 until mid-1977, then it was the 403 from then to the end of 1978, the final year of production. As for most being scrapped or parted out, that's not correct. 12,921 were built from 1973-78. Of those, nearly 8,500 are known to still exist.

The defroster can warm it up some. But have you ever tried having it setting on the engine tight down a little bit. I used to do that until one of them opened up surprisingly earlier
Cleaned up, the right listing, that nicer Triumph Spitfire would bring $10k+. GM also made a larger diesel version motorhome based on a rear engined bus chassis, loaded out, auto leveling, a quiet generator with pushbutton start, interior gauges and controls, luxury interior, built like a battleship, like sitting in your living room going down the road, bumps did not seem to exist in the road.

You could have shipped that spitfire up to the northeast and got $8k easy with that mileage….maybe more. Lot of people love these little British sportscars and not many have 22,000 original miles. Maybe in Kansas it’s only worth $5k, but there is a lot more disposable cash in states like California or Massachusetts that could have brought the cash in.
My man, those old little Honda, Yamaha and English mini bikes bring in big dollars when fixed up. With a little work and $500 buck you could have got 2-3k easy. The other bike much more.
That info on the GMC is a bit off. Clark Cortez was not the "Inspiration" for the GMC. Read the story of Revcon and how they approached GM about supplying powertrains from the Olds Toronado. GM said," We will if you can prove the durability & viability of your product." In essence they did what GM asked, let them in on all the testing & results. GM granted them a contract...then, in amazing GM fashion, stole the idea. Look at the construction of a Revcon and how close GM's "Revolutionary" motorhome is based of the forerunner.

Yes and no - The GM "X" chassis introduced in 1980 (Citation, etc) had had a massive amount of development and testing, yet they were full of teething problems. It almost soured the public on FWD. By the time the "A" chassis was introduced in 1982, GM had put many of the lessons learned on the early FWD cars into use, and they were much better cars. Built for almost a decade and a half, they got some of the best engines GM built (EFI 3800 AND 3100), and were incredibly durable, efficient cars. Many are still on the road today

This was the one to have. British racing green, low mileage well preserved car. I think on a good day it could have pulled $7500

I had a GMC running and driving useable interior - paid $3,500. $4,200 for the Spit is - in my opinion - way high.
Theres a company in Florida that restores and sells these.

Both my teen sons for their first car ahead used Pontiac 6000 with a 4-cylinder both of them were junk underpowered and way overrated
The carbureted A body cars weren't that great, but EFI was a good improvement once it came out

Yes and no -
The GM "X" chassis introduced in 1980 (Citation, etc) had had a massive amount of development and testing, yet they were full of teething problems. It almost soured the public on FWD. By the time the "A" chassis was introduced in 1982, GM had put many of the lessons learned on the early FWD cars into use, and they were much better cars. Built for almost a decade and a half, they got some of the best engines GM built (EFI 3800 AND 3100), and were incredibly durable, efficient cars. Many are still on the road today
