When I was a child, I read all the ways our Martyrs suffered. Foolishly giving thanks that those days were over. Doubting that I could endure such suffering for Jesus. Of course now I know, those days have never been over, As we prepare ourselves and our children for this possibility. Blessed be Our God. Blessed be God in His Angels & His Saints.
As a convert, I did not know ANY of this stuff! What courage these priests and laypeople showed in their day. When I think about all they suffered for our faith, I am so grateful for their sacrifice. May we all follow their example and have the courage to stand for the truth. And may we NEVER take our beautiful Catholic faith for granted. God bless our Marians and God bless our Marian Helper family. 🙏
Conversion! God called you in a special way and your Yes means no turning back, Tanya. The road ahead isn’t full of roses but keep your focus on God who called you. There’s a saying,” Don’t complain that roses have thorns but be happy that thorns carry roses.” God bless you.
I am a cradle Catholic and have learned a lot from these Saturday talks. I have learned a lot from the homilies from the Marians. God Bless the Marians.
Thank you Fr. Matthew for imparting to us knowledge and information of the English Priest Martyrs. Their risky lives didn’t prevent them from spreading the teachings of God and saving souls. Thanks to all the priests throughout the world who still remain faithful to their calling as shepherds to tend and feed the sheep entrusted to them. We, the sheep, must all the time be grateful to our shepherds who provide us all the means needed to be saved and reach our final destination the union with God in heaven. We mustn’t waste time but make effort to prepare ourselves specially the coming Lenten season by cleansing our souls in confession that we may fully enjoy the Easter celebration. Gods bless and prayers for you , Fr. Matthew.
Enjoyed this talk very much! I didn't want to watch because I am so used to Fr. Chris Alar but I was pleasantly surprised to hear Fr. Matthew Tomeny. Beautiful personality and joyous demeanor even though it was such a somber teaching. Sincere Thanks to you Father Tomeny :)
Ty🙏 Father Matthew for this information on the talk on the Martyr Priest. Thanks to all whom have paved the way for our Faith and church. I feel that we are starting to live those times. May God have Mercy on us and prepare us that we don’t lose Faith and stand firm for his Love.♥️ Peace ☮️ and with your Spirit 🕊
Thank you Fr. Mathew for this talk. All talks from The Divine Mercy are really interesting and very enlightening. All Catholics and other sects should hear them. God bless everyone.
Our Marian priests set the bar so very high! Their example should be followed by their fellow priests everywhere. Hope you are enjoying your weekend, dear Zenaida!
We rarely hear of the depth of fortitude and charity of persecuted Catholics such as these. God bless you Father for all the research and work to bring us this incredibly edifying lecture.
Father Matthew Tomeney, MIC, thank you for your beautiful, enlightening and inspiring Explaining of the Faith Talk: English Priest Martyrs: The Survival of the Catholic Faith in England--Marian teaching. May God bless you abundantly, in your Priestly Ministry! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Fr. MATTHEW please do the history of the Catholic Church in Ireland during this same historic time period. Cromwell! It's a story that many don't know either.
I am English and had an Irish father. You are so right. Atrocious and inhumane to say the least and totally babaric...but the faithful stood before the troops with the ROSARY!
What a brilliant talk! Have read about them but you bought it to life! I'm in the diocese of the Howard family in england and it makes me feel very proud! Still a great catholic family as I understand!👍
This is so fascinating and This was such an eye opening presentation. We always think of England as a very civilized country, and here we are hearing of “priest hunters”, persecutions of Catholic priests, and government oppression of Catholicism, just as we are now seeing in Nigeria. However, today was such a faith building episode because: “….the gates of Hell will not prevail against it”. Thank you and God bless and protect all of our holy priests. Prayers for the WWII martyrdom of the Marian priests.
Father Father Mathew Tomeny thank you for your insight and inspiration in details for the English Priest Martyrs: The Survival of The Catholic Faith In England - Marian Teaching
Thank you, Father Matthew, such a fascinating topic/History. I wasn't aware of so many Martyrs in England during this time. God Bless you and all the Marian Priests.
Thanks be to God! Thank you Dear Father Matthew! soulful and heart touching sermon! "They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We must all experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'" (Acts,14:22)
Thank you Father for teaching us it’s important to know for many reasons but the most important is to helps us to have more faith and be inspired by the example of this saints and martyrs, may God bless you abundantly 🙏
Great talk I live very near the Gerards Estate Father one of the villages nearby was the birthplace of St Emund Arrowsmith who was martyred being hanged drawn and quartered His hand is kept as a relic that is venerated by people at times It's known as the Holy Hand Lots of Mansions had hiding holes in them which were well disguised
O Fr. Matthew, I couldn't stop listening to this talk of the Priests in England and of the Martyrdom. Thank you so very much. It was horribly beautiful! God bless you and all who listened to this history of our Faith. Jesus, I love you. ✝️
Thank you so much Fr Matthew for these excellent talks about English Priest Martyrs your doing a great job of your teachings because it's the weekend and the testament and covenant during the time and the forms of prayer during the liturgy also the Holy Spirit preparing the sacraments also your explanation was so simple and the sacred scripture and the rosary and chaplet novena during the lessons also the Marian Apparitions and Precepts of the Church are important about the sacrifice of the confession and confirmation as the penance and the helping family as the liturgical year and the natural law as the protections as the baptism before the Kingdom of God as the crucifix before seasons almost the homily about the new kings as the universe as the matrimony as People of God about the Christmas traditions and questions also examples with good health as the mortal sin and original sin before as always as the seasons about Inquisition and Pentecost and Lent and Easter and Advent as always. Thank you Brother Mark for assisting Fr Matthew and Brother Jason and Brother Ben also Brother Alex as always. Praying for you, Marian Helpers also Fr Chris's good parents also his grandparents and nephews especially Rosalie Alar also Dad and Pam and Mom also Sandy. God bless you and everyone also the Staff Members at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy in Stockbridge MA.
When we feel like we got it rough, let us know that there were those who gave all they could for the Faith. May Our Lord have mercy on us. May the martyrs of England and Wales pray for us.
There were no cell phones or internet in that period of time but there was divine intervention!! Good talk. Relax and allow the holy spirit guide you. Thanks.
I have read Fr. John Gerard's autobiography, and must recommend it for these times: very inspiring and strengthening. Thank you Fr. Tomeny for your sensitive treatment of a difficult subject. He also wrote The Powder Plot, which I am reading but took a break because of the brutal executions. I am so dismayed by the accounts; it seems we should have a "holocaust" memorial for these brave Christians. I am ethnically English, converted to Catholicism some years ago, and am ashamed of my own people.
I remember reading a few years ago that England is the only country in Europe which is growing in Catholic population percentage wise. May the 40 Holy Martyrs of England and Wales continue to intercede for them and the whole world!
Thank you so much, Fr. Matthew. I love English history, though I have not a drop of English blood in me. This talk was so interesting to me. God bless you 🙏 ❤️ Jan
Thank you for sharing this with us! We Americans tend to learn nothing about this persecution in our history books. Queen Elizabeth I is often portrayed as a powerful and successful female monarch. I wonder why she isn’t known as “Bloody Beth”?
From England.. we were taught as young children in the 60's to be proud of our martyrs. We were never stamped out as the the wicked tyrants in power wanted us to be. With the help of the TLM and young men now training for the priesthood in droves... I am under no illusion that the so called 'Re- formation' (or rather 'Deformation') has never ended.. and if our cardinal and bishops fail to step up to the mark as they failed to in Tudor times (except St John Fisher..), then God help us all. However.. we, the laity. will support our priests this time and will not allow history to repeat itself a second time. We will not allow our lily-livered bishops to close our churches a second time. Our Lady of Walsingham said.. 'When England returns to Walsingham, Our Lady will return to England'! Oh Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse to thee'!
Wow. That was very scary about the "priest hunters". They sure acted like nazis. I don't know how they could've operated that way "in the name of protestantism". Looked more demonic to me. Those priests who were tortured and killed, and even the survivors, definitely deserved to be called martyrs and saints. Thank you, father, for sharing this interesting history. God bless.
