"I would certainly probably consider that"
That man grew balls and lost them in the same sentence. so it takes a insurection, a possibly life threatening situation and a all out attack on democratie for a republican to have balls for half a sentence. The country is truely doomed.

Republicans didn't suddenly develop a conscience, they are trying to save their own buts from being tossed in prison.
Why didn't they speak up against this during tfour years ?
Answer: they liked to travel on the gravy train which brought more power and money.
YOU DO THE CRIME, YOU DO THE TIME
which also includes being complicit and NOT speaking up.

Colbert shouldn't let that kind of statement slide. That was an easy line to comment on and say "You'd only CONSIDER it after an incited insurrection?"

    Donald J. Trump’s legacy:
    - Impeached in his first term.
    - Infected by a virus which he called a hoax.
    - Lost the house majority after one term.
    - Lost the White House after one term.
    - Lost the senate majority after one term.
    - Staged a coup and lost.
    - Under criminal investigation by Manhattan attorneys.

Sadly they will again because the voters will never learn from their mistakes. They put their trust in them too much. The general election and even the senate seats were to close which just goes to show USA is resisting change and needs to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21St century. They voted for a criminal liar and grifter so they can’t play the victim when it has gone wrong. They created this monster and even now they reward him with $250m in a so called leadership pac/legal defence fund which we all know will be going into his pocket

I want to preface by saying that the people responsible should be held responsible, but naming names over public media is what got us into this mess. Trump standing at a podium and telling the public who to blame and who to hate just widens the divide between supporters and opponents, it doesn't flip anybody over from one side to the other, and only needs to be conveyed to the authorities that can actually do something about it.

This is such a glaring issue to me. Both him and sen. Klobuchar before him avoided direct question about their colleagues that are to blame for this. They're either afraid to step on toes and make the wrong enemies or they're buddies. These Republican Party members who have backed trump all the way through need to be held accountable and called out by their peers. It's such a disgrace that they don't put them on blast.

When Trump finally addressed the domestic terrorists who stormed the Capitol, he said, “We love you, and you are very special.”
When Trump, in this context, in his capacity as President, says “We,” he means America. He is speaking for all of us, whether we agree with him or not. I can’t be the only one bothered by this. It was bad enough to see the President of the United States declare his love for domestic terrorists publicly, but it’s unforgivable that he invoked We, the People as he did it.

@@JoshSweetvale that's a pretty extreme view that largely ignores the factors that create terrorists. If another country--say China, England, or Russia--staged a military intervention to "bring peace and democracy to the US" and started shooting those they deemed to be terrorist threats, would you be okay with that? I bet you wouldn't.
If, say, it wasn't another country, but was an AI computer system installed by the US government that gave either machines or it's own form of human police authority to execute people on sight that it deemed to be terrorists or criminals, would you be okay with that? I bet not.
It's easy to call for people to be shot, until you're the one getting shot at because you've been misidentified, mischaracterised, or whoever is doing the shooting is using a criteria that, whether you or other people agree or not, is what they went with.
Some people might call the rise of such a system to be another form of totalitarianism or authoritarianism. It's important to not become what you want to prevent.
I bet if you got to know some of the people who were part of the riots without knowing they were there, you'd humanise them a bit and understand their reasons, even if you don't agree or condone their actions. The point being, we need to do something about the reasons people do things like invade a government building, rather than just killing them and pretending they're the root cause of the issue. They're not.

And OK again: full marks to Kinsinger for calling the coup by that name.
But I would have liked to hear more honest soul searching about his reasons for not voting to impeach. It cannot be that he did not know that Trump would try to steal the election, given that he's been angling in plain sight to do exactly that ever since conspicuously going through the motions (and, plausibly, the actions) of stealing the last one while insisting that his opponent had.
Even without Kinsinger noticing that, Trump's documented obstructions of justice (in the Mueller report, and around the Ukraine extortion attempt) were beyond sufficient reason to rule out having him spend another hour in office.
Let's not beat about the bush here: dismissing "his" Attorney General, for the stated reasons, was borderline impeachable. The AG is not the President's AG, and absolutely not (as Barr was) the President's personal consigliere: he's the People's AG, and failure to understand that is (or should be) disqualifying.
The frogs of the GOP were not coaxed into lukewarm water which was slowly brought to the boil: the frogs were shown the water boiling. with arrows pointing to the bubbles, before the election. Trump was openly turning on the elements within minutes of descending the escalator, and the likes of Cruz and Lindsey were warning the other frogs by accurately and insightfully skewering all of his disqualifying characteristics from day one. They, in particular, should rot in hell for caving as they did, putting personal power ahead of the people they pretend to want to serve.
And while Kinsinger is definitely in a different class, but I cannot find it in myself to consider him in remission, a loyal American, given that he STILL will not commit to impeach even with what has just happened.
Too much patriotism is a bad thing, but so is too little. And "coming to Jesus" is not totally convincing when done with reservations.

    • @Gottenhimfella
      @Gottenhimfella 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@hijodelaisla275 Actual, as distinct from phony. Similarly there are actual Christians (who believe in Christ's teachings) vs the phony sort (who would run Jesus out of town for having long hair, no shoes and being in possession of a donkey not his own) and there are self-declared patriots.
Rule of thumb : if you have to declare yourself a patriot then you are almost certainly virtue signalling, and not an actual patriot, the latter being a person who will put the needs of the country and *_all_* its people ahead of the needs of the smaller group, composed just of people they identify with.
And will do so without needing to tell anyone, or to feel self-righteous.

This infuriated me into wasting my time with TH-cam comments. I'm glad to come down here and see many others pointing this out.
Worse yet, in the interview before this with Sen. Klobuchar she did the same thing. Steven asked her twice to hold her colleagues accountable and she skirted around the question and focused all of her rhetoric towards trump. I find it so pathetic how transparent these politicians are with their agendas. It's a disgrace. Now that there are few days left for trump, they're all willing to speak up. Pathetic.

Everyone knew. The rest of his colleagues know something would happen. Hell they knew the mob was there, Howley raised his fist as he walked past them.
I think the part all of us weren't expecting, including Kinzinger, was the lack of response from most of the capital police, and how easily that mob would breach and enter the capital building.

All they have to do is write a "Motion for Reconsideration" (of the impeachment decision) and re-vote. It's a one-page motion. Get it done. So simple a paralegal could write it.
