Hi JP, thank you for sharing. I just wanted to share my experience. I just received my Radrunner EU version (250w motor) and performed the trick. Before I had a max speed of 25km an hour and after I got 30km an hour.
Thanks for the video. I can't speak for everyone and every model, but it appears that the folks at Rad Power have been busy to disallow these hacks. For newer models, changing the speed in the menu to 40 kph no longer works. You can change the display, but the motor still cuts out at 20 mph when riding. Again, not saying this applies to every bike, but covering the pin on the newer models only seems to cut out the speedometer display, and gives you no increase in speed either. Thank the bloody lawyers for this.
Correct me if I’m wrong, I have dealt with a variety of ev brushless motors and large rc car/ drone motors, I was under the impression that the outside pins (not the 3 large gauge pins) where only used for the HALL effect sensor/ positioning of motor sensor. Are these powered wheels (sensored motors)? if not why are there so many data pins needed inside this connector? Is it just temperature and rpm?
@@last7509 it's because lawmakers are cracking down on ebikes since they don't require licenses in alot of cities lol. SO these companies are trying not to get their bikes banned. Sucks because not all cities are the same. In alot of cities, they don't care as long as you aren't riding with traffic.
I just did this on my 2021 Radcity. The speedometer does not register anything with that pin covered (stays at 0), which is perhaps how the governor is disabled. I’ll gladly take the additional speed over the data point of how fast I’m going. The rest of the display works as usual.
Thanks for sharing this trick! I had trouble picking out the right pin from your instructions - I'm a very visual learner. You want to tape the octagon segment that's one step anti-clockwise from the alignment arrow on the cable sheath, is that right?
For others that have trouble, hold the connector with the single pin on the outer radius at 12 o'clock position (other single pins on the outer radius are in pairs, there is only one side of the connector that has a single pin on the outer radius) count two pins clockwise from that pin, and cover that pin (around the 4-5 o'clock position)

If its what I'm thinking, you need to go in the hidden menu of your controller, and in there is an option to set speed lower or higher.
I have the radwagon that I bought around the end of 2019, any idea if this will work on it? Also does this remove the speed limit completely or just make it 25 instead of 20? Thanks!

@@tedroth5384 The Runner Will not go to 40 for me. The display will show 40 but it is not the real speed. I've tested this with my friend on his bike, in his car and with a speed thing on the side of the road where it tells cars or bikes the speed your going. It would never go 40 but my display was saying 40. So the Runner has 20 inch tires. The only way I was able to get a real speed upgrade is to change the size of the tire from 20 to 22 in the display option (if I got bigger doesn't work. 22 is only one that makes it go faster), and then I can get from 32km/h to 35km/h. But even changing Like I said to 40 in the menu, I speed up, bike shows 40, but its not real. Does this happens with you?
Tried it on a Radrunner. No luck. I even tried taping EVERY edge one by one in case your video was mirror imaged (my wires are on the right side) any advice?
wonder if this will work on the ado air! so annoying getting to just under 16mph and the motor cuts with the peddle assist , the throttle opens it up to over 22mph but want more out of the peddle assist
don't know if they changed the parameters of the bike, but did not work for me. I guess I could try the other pins, but inserting a small piece of take exactly in the right place is no easy task
Regarding the placement of the small piece of tape: I thought the exact same thing when I watched the video. Haven't bought a Rad bike yet but will likely try this when I do.

Got me a gen 5 , 500 watt hacked the controller came doing 32km now does 40km,but still want more it gets to 40 I can feel it holding back , will this trick work on radrover gen 5. getting the upgraded control box and display window speed ect later, but for now I want to see if that trick stops it from holding back. This doesn't seem to work for my 2021 RadRunner Plus. Changing the top speed from 32km/h to 40km/hr through the LCD display screen hidden menus did seem to increase it a few mph though. I'm going to try adjusting the wheel size now too to see if that changes it as well.
This seems to not work on the radmission 1, still cuts out at 19-20mph however it oddly seems to accelerate harder rather than the soft launch it usually does, weird.
How fast will the motor go now since the 20mph limit is off? Also, I ordered the display upgrade and will be increasing the speed to 25mph so if I do that and do this you think it will go even faster?
@@Kaiya_Corey that thing is stupid! You may get an increase of one mile maybe two miles per hour. Go to electric bike world you can buy a 25 amp controller. Plug and Play. Not the 35 amp controller from Bolton bikes. Not that one. Ebike World 25 amp controller does wonders for the bike👍
@@Kaiya_Corey I put 2017 rad Rover display on RAD Runner 1. Yes it works. But it did not increase the speed at all. That function does not work. Best option is just to get a 25 amp or 35 amp controller. Because all the controllers on all radpowerbikes are useless and garbage.
I put on a cst big boat tire 20x3 front only.....21.5 now 22.6 mph downhill...20.5 mph level.....used to be 19.8 level.......stock rr1...single speed.......stock inner tube...

Didn't work for me on my RadMission (eu version). Tried both the second pin from the right (no result in max speed) and the second from the left (motor didn't work). Still curious about increasing the speed to approx. 30 km/h though. 23.7 km/h (on my Garmin Edge with calibrated speed sensor) is a tad disappointing.

Has anyone done this to an EU version of the Radrunner with the 250 watt Bafang motor? and if so is it worth the effort? is any additional speed or uphill power realized? Thanks all!
The motor is not a 250w, its really capable of 500w and peaks of 750w, but the eu radrunner controller is limited to 250w, get a replacement controller of aliexpress for about 60 euros and you can unleash the real power of the motor

Tried it tonight on my RadMini 4, but all it did was make the speedometer stop working. Oh well! PS: I found out that later Rad models have an internal RPM limiter, so I swapped the motor out for a couple hundred dollars US. The new motor doesn't have any more power, but it doesn't have the limiter either.
with my eu version 250 watt 2021 do not work. the pin shown is right because the other pins if covered give no power to the bike but probably in some version of the bike that pin isn't cabled and the limitation of the speed is made directly by the motor. No body else can give me some help about tricks to encrease the speed of my rad power bike? thanks
When plugging in the wire yes, on your bike theres a,little groove for a zip tie to go though on the frame. It secures the wire on your bike tight. Always re attach that.
Though I've ridden my Radrunner only a couple of times since it arrived yesterday , this tweak did appear to make a difference on today's ride. For 7 month's I've 've ridden a Gazelle Paris with the bosch active line plus mid mounted motor, two different bikes obviously but I have some experience as to how an electric bike rides. this is what i did but i ended up just not connecting the 6th white wire in the hall sensor wireset from controller. it kicked out an error 21 code and it freaked me out so i plugged it back in until i figure out if the error will harm my bike or if its just a formality to unplugging the wire. i could care less if i have a speedo if it is faster. i also lightly shunt modded it for a bit of extra torque. started it out lightly and i will add a bit more later. im still unsure of controllers so id like to keep this one as long as possible.

nice man. i have an emmo bike very similar to yours. It has a similar wire to the motor but my pins are inverted from yours and slightly different spacing., Its an emmo ewild s ive been trying to do this for a year Any suggestions for similar hacks? ive basically looked everywhere lol

@Mark J The only thing I was able to do was set the bike to power mode from eco and that made a small difference. I've tried every setting and not much gains.

@@stm180681 You can. I've done it with my LCD screen. You hold the up and down button down at the same time and it opens up the internal options menu. Then you press mode to switch through the different options. The second option is the internal top speed limit set at 32kmh, using the up and down buttons you can change it to the top speed of 40kmh. Then you just hold the mode button down for a couple of seconds to exit the options screen and return to the display mode. Honestly tho, I haven't noticed too much a difference.

Also, I have a 2021 model which I am totally satisfied but prior to this I accidentally changed my tire size in this application, can you tell me the correct tire setting size? I know I should be able to figure these out but since I have turned 73 years old, I’m not as sharp as I once was. I can ride my bike with the setting on PAS 1 most of the time.
@@martinmaddox5315 no problem. The speedometer should still work, and if you have the Radrunner the tire size is 20”. Although my top speed isn’t 25/mph unfortunately, it tops out at around 23. Hope that helps, and happy riding! 😃
Someone else figured out that cutting the white wire would disable the speed limiter, another guy cut open hisnwire harness and traced the white wire to this pin but used a terrible hand drawn pic of what pin oncover so i made a video just showing how to cover it

Buy the upgraded LCD display from Rad, unless you already have it, press the up and down pedal assist arrows at the same time to get to the menu, then change the speed limit, its set at 20mph you can increase it to 25mph.
Using the LCD upgrade, I adjusted the kph from 32 to 40 (ie. almost 25 mh). The bike limiter still kicks in at 20 mph. I am tempted to try this above mod (which is easily reversible) but want to read around a little more as I don't want to fry the motor.
Me neither. Just got mine yesterday and tried this mod and made sure I did it correctly. Top pin with gap on left and gap on right then taped the 2nd pin clockwise from top. No change.
sideburn I don’t think you made sure enough... if you’re going from the top single pin, it’s the 3rd pin clockwise. Or the 2nd pin from right of the set of 5 pins as he said.
Ken S. I meant from the top of the set of 5. I wasn’t counting the VERY top pin (with the gap to the left and right of it when I said 2nd pin clockwise. So yes. Second pin on the right (clockwise rotation) of the set of 5 (not counting the top pin with gaps between it. I tried running the motor stationary and recording it and used a tackometer in both cases and could not notice any difference. Also riding I always reach 19 or 20 mph so I undid the mod.
Ken S. I just tried again with and without the mod and with the mod I never get past 19 / 20 mph but it feels like it’s not trying to slow me back down when accelerating downhill. So maybe it’s working it’s hard to tell. Maybe My 215lb fat head is just too much for it. But it still seems like it’s governing it at 20mph. Or maybe the motor is just maxed out?! I dunno.
Not my thing. Your increase speed will only be 1 or maybe two miles an hour.. But it was nice of this guy to make this video and try to help some people out and given them some options... but for me,I would just get a new controller🙏

this seems to be happening for all ebikes. they advertise 28mph but only go 22

wheel size adjustment is an illusion. ultimately its governed by the stock controller.

Haven't tried this trick....but I changed speed limit to 25mph with the radrunner LCD digital upgrade in the settings
From reading around it's only in the US that the 20 mph limit is there. It's a US compliance thing.

The motor is not a 250w, its really capable of 500w and peaks of 750w, but the eu radrunner controller is limited to 250w, get a replacement controller of aliexpress for about 60 euros and you can unleash the real power of the motor

Tried it tonight on my RadMini 4, but all it did was make the speedometer stop working. Oh well!
PS: I found out that later Rad models have an internal RPM limiter, so I swapped the motor out for a couple hundred dollars US. The new motor doesn't have any more power, but it doesn't have the limiter either.

with my eu version 250 watt 2021 do not work. the pin shown is right because the other pins if covered give no power to the bike but probably in some version of the bike that pin isn't cabled and the limitation of the speed is made directly by the motor. No body else can give me some help about tricks to encrease the speed of my rad power bike? thanks

When plugging in the wire yes, on your bike theres a,little groove for a zip tie to go though on the frame. It secures the wire on your bike tight. Always re attach that.

Though I've ridden my Radrunner only a couple of times since it arrived yesterday , this tweak did appear to make a difference on today's ride.
For 7 month's I've 've ridden a Gazelle Paris with the bosch active line plus mid mounted motor, two different bikes obviously but I have some experience as to how an electric bike rides. Cheers Happy cycling 👍
this is what i did but i ended up just not connecting the 6th white wire in the hall sensor wireset from controller. it kicked out an error 21 code and it freaked me out so i plugged it back in until i figure out if the error will harm my bike or if its just a formality to unplugging the wire. i could care less if i have a speedo if it is faster. i also lightly shunt modded it for a bit of extra torque. started it out lightly and i will add a bit more later. im still unsure of controllers so id like to keep this one as long as possible.
When i discovered this hack, it did not affect the speedo. I believe they may have changed things so this doesnt work anymore unfortunately

nice man. i have an emmo bike very similar to yours. It has a similar wire to the motor but my pins are inverted from yours and slightly different spacing., Its an emmo ewild s ive been trying to do this for a year

I have since learned you wouldnt want to go much faster on these bikes but the torque would be nice. i have since studded an old set of tires and keep my battery wrapped for winter drivcing and love it. Id love to make it have more torque tho
@Mark J The only thing I was able to do was set the bike to power mode from eco and that made a small difference. I've tried every setting and not much gains.

i've read about getting the LCD display upgrade and you can reset the throttle limit mode via this but unconfirmed
@@stm180681 You can. I've done it with my LCD screen. You hold the up and down button down at the same time and it opens up the internal options menu. Then you press mode to switch through the different options. The second option is the internal top speed limit set at 32kmh, using the up and down buttons you can change it to the top speed of 40kmh. Then you just hold the mode button down for a couple of seconds to exit the options screen and return to the display mode.
Honestly tho, I haven't noticed too much a difference.

Also, I have a 2021 model which I am totally satisfied but prior to this I accidentally changed my tire size in this application, can you tell me the correct tire setting size? I know I should be able to figure these out but since I have turned 73 years old, I’m not as sharp as I once was. I can ride my bike with the setting on PAS 1 most of the time.
@@martinmaddox5315 no problem. The speedometer should still work, and if you have the Radrunner the tire size is 20”. Although my top speed isn’t 25/mph unfortunately, it tops out at around 23.

On your bike the RPM limiter is internal so this won't work.

Someone else figured out that cutting the white wire would disable the speed limiter, another guy cut open hisnwire harness and traced the white wire to this pin but used a terrible hand drawn pic of what pin oncover so i made a video just showing how to cover it

Buy the upgraded LCD display from Rad, unless you already have it, press the up and down pedal assist arrows at the same time to get to the menu, then change the speed limit, its set at 20mph you can increase it to 25mph.

Yeah gas bikes rule. 66cc hauls if you tune it just right. I tell people its a hybrid. The motor charges the battery for electric motor.

Using the LCD upgrade, I adjusted the kph from 32 to 40 (ie. almost 25 mh). The bike limiter still kicks in at 20 mph. I am tempted to try this above mod (which is easily reversible) but want to read around a little more as I don't want to fry the motor.
@@nigelparry I tried and gain around 2,5 miles from 21mph to 23mp. The only inconvenience is the my LCD screen loose track of my speed.

Me neither. Just got mine yesterday and tried this mod and made sure I did it correctly. Top pin with gap on left and gap on right then taped the 2nd pin clockwise from top. No change.
sideburn I don’t think you made sure enough... if you’re going from the top single pin, it’s the 3rd pin clockwise. Or the 2nd pin from right of the set of 5 pins as he said.
Ken S. I meant from the top of the set of 5. I wasn’t counting the VERY top pin (with the gap to the left and right of it when I said 2nd pin clockwise. So yes. Second pin on the right (clockwise rotation) of the set of 5 (not counting the top pin with gaps between it. I tried running the motor stationary and recording it and used a tackometer in both cases and could not notice any difference. Also riding I always reach 19 or 20 mph so I undid the mod.
Ken S. I just tried again with and without the mod and with the mod I never get past 19 / 20 mph but it feels like it’s not trying to slow me back down when accelerating downhill. So maybe it’s working it’s hard to tell. Maybe My 215lb fat head is just too much for it. But it still seems like it’s governing it at 20mph. Or maybe the motor is just maxed out?! I dunno.
Not my thing. Your increase speed will only be 1 or maybe two miles an hour.. But it was nice of this guy to make this video and try to help some people out and given them some options... but for me,I would just get a new controller🙏
