I went back and read the help icon... it said it must be at the least 1.10 start voltage to operate or the motor shuts down as not to damage the motor because the current is too low. My recommendation.. only reset one of the parameter at a time.. otherwise, it is almost impossible to figure out the change you made that caused the bike to shut down.. I read somewhere, if you get a error code 04H... disconnect the throttle cable, and if the error code goes away.. replace the throttle.... Great video this is but I'm a little confused. I'm planning on fitting a mid drive this weekend, got everything needed. I have tested the controller (500c) and it's working with the battery, I just connected together what could on the worktop to get an idea of how it all fits. I noticed the controller only has 5 assist levels but this app has 9. How does this work? Should I just average it all out over 5 levels or go ahead and program all 9? It sounds like your riding style is similar to mine so I would like to try to replicate it.
Just a head's up for everyone. First thing to note (this will help many that have inquired about other models in the comments) apparently this app is just for BBS series of Bafang motors. In the notes it says, "Warning: the newest 2022+ Bafang mid drive uses a triangle connector not compatible with the programming cable." It can get confusing because I have an early M600 Bafang that is UART (not CANBUS) and it also has the triangle 5 pin green connector. So the take away on this is, if you have a triangle 5 pin connector, it is not necessarily a CANBUS, if it is an older motor (and perhaps not a BBS model), it might be also UART. According to a YT video called, "Difference for Bafang M620 UART and CANbus motor", in order to know what protocol your Bafang motor is, you may need to look at the connectors right at the motor harness and not your display like they do in that video. Apparently they used an 8 pin female for UART, and an 8 pin male for CANBUS, at least that's what they did for the 620 models, so it may be true for other models as well.
I've been playing with my settings and somehow my pedal assist has totally disappeared, does anyone have any tips on how to restore it? Or restore the original settings on a Bafang BBS01 36v 250w mid hub motor?
Steven, I have a 48 volt BBS02B & can connect through the Green LCD Display cable & get the OTG program cable to light up but when I try to connect the phone to my motor I get a "Device not found" message. Is it possible that Bafang has made a change to prevent connecting to their firmware or do I need an up to date Android phone? Thank you.
Many thanks! A question. where is the option to alter the walking assist mode when you press the minus? Also, the link for the cables you put in, is that also usable for the bafang m400? When I google for a program cable for the m400, it shows a different, much more expensive one. Thank you!
There is a round connector and a triangle connector. If you have the round connector that works with my cable. If you have the triangle connector, that is the newer style which is much more expensive to program.
Terrific info, thank you, thank you. I think my brain is too full(info overload), now I’m wondering which battery to get for the 750W kit.? I live in a hilly area of West Virginia.
Then why are all the builders putting 52v on their 48v bafang mid drives? And sellers selling 52v batteries with their kits? P.S. I just installed a 52v battery on my 750w. Now I'm going to program it to cap the amps to around 20 and theoretically get way more distance between charging than a 48v with the same Ah.
@@whatsit2ya247 A 14s battery has a max voltage of 58v and a median voltage of 50.4 or 51.8v depending on whether you use the 3.6v or 3.7v standard. Basically a "52v" battery is a 48v standard just because the batteries have such a wide range of voltage full or empty. Empty it will get down to 40v which is too low to power a 48v battery.

Sadly the current version of this App on Google Play Store doesn't work on the newest version of Android. Also doesn't look like the Author has updated it since June 2021.

Hi mate, i was use your video for programming my bb02b. But have another question, i looking at one 250w hub kit , and the controller have the same cable types. Do you think i will be able to connect with this controller???
If you have a front hub Bafang motor will this software work when it is supplied with the very basic c 951 controller? I want to make the cadence or torque sensor respond to pedal movement faster. At the moment it is nearly two full revolutions of a pedal for the PAS to cut in?
The c951 is just the display. The controller is the box of electronics in the frame. The problem is many bikes use a bafang motor but not a bafang controller and you need a bafang controller to program anything.
@@stevenc22 ah thanks so I must find and pull the controller and see what make it is and the specs I suppose and start from there, thanks for the help.
On previous installs with the BBS01 my biggest complaint with those motors was the delay for the motor to stop after you stopped pedaling. Does this also occur on the newer BBS02's & also when using a throttle? This was most annoying for shifting or quick stops & I am hoping changing the stop delay will solve this. Thank you.
I picked up off of Amazon the cable I thought I could use for the programing my mid drive BF and found out the newer Bafang motors changed the plug in on the cord from the LCD to the motor had changed; so you can not reprogram the new Bafang motors. Will there be a newer cable in the future for us owners of the new motors to be able to reprogram our motors?
If it uses the round connector to the screen, it can probably be reprogrammed. If it uses the newer triangle connector for the screen, it cannot be reprogrammed.
Today I used this app for a third time and for a third time, it has disabled my PAS. The READ procedure took place normally, then I read what was on my bike and found my wheel diameter was wrong and a PAS setting was changed. When I clicked on WRITE, I got an error-saying connection with the motor was lost and from then on, I could do nothing. After re-connecting my bike, it reported an error code of 08 and as usual, I have lost PAS and the THROTTLE. Some one should investigate this more thoroughly and find out THE REASON for something in the WRITE command has caused the problem?
The app is not compatible with newer versions of android. It does not work on android 13, it won't even show up in the store if you have 13 and search for it. I had to look this video up on my phone and click the link you provided to the speed app page in the google play store and refuses to let me download it.
Hello, I have a question about m400. I have display DPC 18 4.2 U (UART) - blocked version. Can i change my motor settings in program speeed (Google play app). Some people tell me that the settings can only be changed in BBS01, BBS02 etc. motors. But in the other hand some guys say that I can change the settings with this program on all engines with UART communication. Now I don't know if I should risk it, could my controller get bricked?
Hi and thanks for your video. One question, is it possible to connect the bafang bbs02 with the mobile through the USB port of the display?. I have the p850c display and this have an USB port. Thanks a lot.
because it only detects pedal movement, there's no bbs02 for back pedal brakes (if thats what you want), you need a lever brake bike my TSDZ2 doesn't do that because it has a torque sensor and you can't put enough torque backpedaling to activate the motor you cannot fix it on the normal cadence PAS BBSHD, BBS02 etc.
Perfect this eases life a lot! Works with an M400 Motor as well, but does not allow to change the torque settings. Is it planned to integrate torque settings as well?
Does programming with this method void any sort of warranty? Can bafang tell that the programming has been done if for instance, I needed to send a motor back to them? (Bosch have a program that can tell you if a motor has been tampered with) Does this programming reduce the lifespan of your motor at all? Does your battery drain quicker (even if it's a green cell battery) after doing this programming? Can you totally disable a throttle with this? Can you raise the limit before pedal assist turns off?
Yes this probably voids the warranty. The motor will be fine, it's the controller that can overheat and blow out if you program too much amps. You can disable throttle.
@@stevenc22 Ok 👍 i will try it when i go home. Thank you. I have another ask! I set up the current to 25A , but can i realy get the benefit from that power from the motor, if my battery is 48v 17.5Ah.(840w) Or the battery is too weak ? I didn't feel any difference 😕 last time when i ride it. The max speed is still 44mph (not loaded). What about this options in PEDAL section, Keep Current %. Can i increase that to 100%??
@@ivanpetrov2280 Your battery should be capable of 25amps if the battery cells and BMS are high quality. The Keep Current% is how much current you want the bike to provide when you hit top speed and are pedaling. Once you hit top speed the motor backs off the power just to maintain the top speed. You can increase it to 100% in theory. Please note you are pushing your motor very hard and could blow it up if you arent careful!
I have just bought an Eskute Voyager Pro (in UK) which has a Bafang MD200 motor. The connection to the controller is not a round 5 pin, it has 5 pins but I believe is a CAN protocol, I cannot find any USB cables to connect to this type of socket/plug. Anyone found one ?

isn't the "throttle" simply a rheostat... the harder you press/turn, the slower/faster it takes off? So in Throttle setting 8 @ 80%, wouldn't it take off slow if you only press lightly or fast if you jump to full throttle..? My bike throttle is scary.. last time i tried getting rolling by throttle alone, i pulled a wheelie..nearly dumped the bike.. Suggestions on settings to have full range but also e able to start off slow and gradual..?
I don't know that bike brand. Does it use a bafang motor? And if it does, does the display use a round green connector? If yes to both questions, then it is probably reprogrammable.
Maybe. Most bikes with rear bafang motors actually have aftermarket controllers that it won't work with. If your controller box is actually bafang it probably will work.

I noticed the controller only has 5 assist levels but this app has 9. How does this work? Should I just average it all out over 5 levels or go ahead and program all 9? It sounds like your riding style is similar to mine so I would like to try to replicate it.
You can change the 5 to 9 in the secret menu. But even if you keep the 5, in the software 1,3,5,7,9 correspond to the 5 levels
Same thing happened today me. Were you able to get PAS back?
Thank you, just what I was looking for.
does it work to plug a USB dongle ang connecto to the phone?
Yes. You use the Bafang cable can plug it into the otg adapter into phone.
Where do you get them programming cable
Terrific info, thank you, thank you. I think my brain is too full(info overload), now I’m wondering which battery to get for the 750W kit.? I live in a hilly area of West Virginia.
So a 750w kit is probably a 48v system. So you need a 48v battery probably 12kw+ in size
@@stevenc22 I'm not quite getting it, so all the people that are using 52v batteries with their bafang motors aren't actually working?
Does this programing apply to the latest Bafang G510 Ultra mid motor with an arrow shaped 5 pin connector (not round connector)?

You can side load the app
Want to configure as use a 1 to 5 system not the 1 to 9 only gives me 1 to 9 options shall i just configure first 5 ?

Hi mate, i was use your video for programming my bb02b. But have another question, i looking at one 250w hub kit , and the controller have the same cable types. Do you think i will be able to connect with this controller???
I think if it has the exact same round green plug it will probably work.
Where can I get the PC software to configure the motor? Also, where can you get the new programming cable for motors after 2022? Thanks for your video
My other video I show how to program with a laptop. The newer motors are not programmable as far as I know.
Thank you.
I have not noticed any delay in the motor after I stop pedaling

I picked up off of Amazon the cable I thought I could use for the programing my mid drive BF and found out the newer Bafang motors changed the plug in on the cord from the LCD to the motor had changed; so you can not reprogram the new Bafang motors. The new motor actually uses a different programming language, so I'm not sure.

How about the Bafang OEM middrives, the ones that require a special bike frame, not the BBS which van be retrofitted. Can they be tuned as well?

Any chance this could be upgraded to later versions of android?
Today I used this app for a third time and for a third time, it has disabled my PAS. The READ procedure took place normally, then I read what was on my bike and found my wheel diameter was wrong and a PAS setting was changed. When I clicked on WRITE, I got an error-saying connection with the motor was lost and from then on, I could do nothing. After re-connecting my bike, it reported an error code of 08 and as usual, I have lost PAS and the THROTTLE. Some one should investigate this more thoroughly and find out THE REASON for something in the WRITE command has caused the problem?
Interesting - flaw?
How did you get PAS back? Something similar happened to me. I have throttle but no PAS

Hello, I have a question about m400. I have display DPC 18 4.2 U (UART) - blocked version. Can i change my motor settings in program speeed (Google play app).

That is a USB charging port only.
Hey, any idea why the motor starts forward when I pedal backwards?
Kinda anoying (BBS02)
because it only detects pedal movement, there's no bbs02 for back pedal brakes (if thats what you want), you need a lever brake bike
my TSDZ2 doesn't do that because it has a torque sensor and you can't put enough torque backpedaling to activate the motor
you cannot fix it on the normal cadence PAS BBSHD, BBS02 etc.
Can't find the app.
Is this app not available on Apple devices I can’t find the app in the app store
No but there is a windows version if you have a windows laptop
I can t find green plug is it the one from display?
Yes from display about 8 inches from display
This doesn't void warranty or anything does it? Because, this seems fantastic to be able to adjust...
As long as you don't over amp it you should be fine. Bafang provides the tool them selves. This is officially supported.
What speed do you get at 5% and 10% and does it feel like a regular bike pedalling with some effort?
My level 1 and 2 definitely need some manual effort. They only provide 25w and 50w of power which is nothing really.
Perfect this eases life a lot! Works with an M400 Motor as well, but does not allow to change the torque settings. Is it planned to integrate torque settings as well?
Sorry Mark, don't know what the developer plans to support.

Does programming with this method void any sort of warranty?
Can bafang tell that the programming has been done if for instance, I needed to send a motor back to them? (Bosch have a program that can tell you if a motor has been tampered with)
Does this programming reduce the lifespan of your motor at all?
Does your battery drain quicker (even if it's a green cell battery) after doing this programming?
Can you totally disable a throttle with this?
Can you raise the limit before pedal assist turns off?
Yes this probably voids the warranty. The motor will be fine, it's the controller that can overheat and blow out if you program too much amps. You can disable throttle.
@@stevenc22 How can you tell what amount of amps is suitable for your motor/controller?
The 750w and 1000w controllers are maxed to 25amps.
