      Hi Lisa! Where do you buy your sesame seeds? I'm sure the bulk bins at Whole Foods have them, but I've noticed that the nuts and seeds I get from there are sometimes already rancid.

    You could add sesame oil instead of olive oil for a true taste of tahini. Also put some tbs of this tahini in a bowl, add honey, (to taste) and some water (little by little) and you just whisk it. You will have a creamy, healthy ans tasty spread. Just dont put it in the fridge because it will harden up. I love tahini and hummus! Glad I found you

      The one in the video is a Weck Jar, and the Jar with the clasp on it is a Le Parfait Jar both are available on Amazon. I prefer le Parfait jars for condiments i use often. And weck jars for temp food storage bc the clips and seals on the weck jars get kind of annoying... that being said... you can microwave a weck jar without the seal and metal clips... but the le Parfait you cannot remove the metal clasp around the jar. Just FYI i enjoy them both but there was some learning associated with the transition.... but they both look wonderful in my lunchbox and kitchen.

      Yes! You can freeze it. It will stay good for a week (or more) in the fridge and you can freeze the remainder.

    Used my new Vitamix for the first time but... Followed your directions to the letter. It was so thick with 3 TBL EVOO that I wound up adding another 2-1/2 TBL EVOO. Even then it was much thicker than yours! I sourced my sesame seeds from your link too. Why did mine need so much more oil than yours and still not be as creamy? It turned out to be very messy endeavor.

      @martysk8r 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I put mine in a food processor first (for a while - like 20 minutes or so). Then, creamy it up in the Vitamix.

    HI LIsa, I have a question, I forgot to toast my sesame seeds before grnding then in my vitamix. Is this a big deal? I sure don't like the taste by itself. I also added two tablesppons of olive oil and it still not creamy

    I made the tahini tonight and I believe it didn't come out right. I purchased the exact same brand as you, I had to use more than 1/4 cup of oil and it still was thick and pasty not so thin as yours. I'm not sure what I did wrong. I also thought maybe I should have used the dry container instead of the regular vitamix container, do you think that's what I did wrong? Also the taste of it was very bitter. I never tasted tahini before so I'm not sure what it suppose to taste like please help me.

    • @Downshiftology
      @Downshiftology  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use the regular/wet container as well. Tahini on it's own does have a bitter flavor. Other ingredients are usually added to it for more of a sauce/dressing (I have a recipe on my website). Did you do the full recipe (not cut it in half or reduce it)? And did you toast the seeds first?

    • @ericam3287
      @ericam3287 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Downshiftology yes, I made the full recipe and yes I also toasted the seeds. I may have to toast in batches bc it seemed a bit much for the sautee pan I used to toast them in. But it was a stainless pan.
