It's overbuilt, i like it. The UKPK is too big and long for my taste. Out of all uk legal spydercos this one is my favourite. The stiffer action and thicker blade makes it feel and look more solid and substantial. The G10 is good quality and with a grippy texture. Had to change the pocket clip for a smaller deep carry black one as the one it comes with is a bit big and shiney for the UK not very discreet. On first impressions it's not looking good for you maybe in time use you'll warm to it. The Satin finish on the blade is deep if it had been stonewashed that would have been better for me.
How stiff would you rate the action of the spring on this one? Austria will probably present a new knife law soon and I might won't be able to carry my lockbacks anymore. So this knife is interesting for me, since I really enjoy the Native series.
I really wanted to pick up the HH UKPK but with the regular “leaf” blade but missed out, the newer blade doesn’t appeal. Haven’t pulled the trigger on any other Spyderco knives yet. Certainly won’t be the Lil Native though 🤣
I have 2 squeaks the pink and the black scales also the Heinnie lightweight urban and what I call the normal urban, plus a ukpk drop point , so I got quite excited when I saw this was coming out to add to my uk friendly collection until I saw the price sorry but for what it is I think a price (it’s about £170 ish on Heinnie) is just to high .
Yes, I really can not see why this is so expensive. I guess that is partly why I wanted to order it. I wanted to see what the fuss was about and what a more expensive knife would be like. It's not worth twice the UKPK. I can't recommend this Native so far. I'm looking to get a deep carry clip for it to see if it will grow on me. Thanks for the comment
Not tempted by that! I was very tempted by the UKPK Salt as, like you, I do a lot of fishing. However, I find the added utility of scissors on my James Brand Ellis (plain edge) stopped me from buying one. How are you getting on with the Salt? Have you tried the Ellis? I think they are pricey, but have become my EDC. Love the channel by the way.
It's interesting to see different people's preferences. I agree that the pocket clip is not suited and my lil native also has sharp edges but I really like it as a user and I really don't get on with the urban. I think it's to do with having XL size hands. It's thicker and sturdier than the urban. It just seems to fit better for me. Shame about the build quality but I've not had a spyderco that hasn't had build quality issues yet.
That's an interesting point about hand size. I have small to medium hands and I prefer the more slender profile of the Urban/UKPK. The blade stock is thicker on the Native too
You should start looking for Spyderco PITS to add to your collection, in my opinion that's the best UK legal knife from Spyderco. I own one and that titanium just feel great. I also have HH UKPK but I don't like the G10 scales, feels cheap. When I see yours with titanium scales I think that will solve my problem. Nice review.
I've had my eye on the PITS for years now. It has always been too expensive for me at around £300. However, I'm coming to a philosophy that I'd prefer to own fewer, but nicer things. I'm thinking of selling a few knives to free up cash for a PITS. The Ti scales on the UKPK is a great combination by the way - highly recomended! Thanks for your comment!
The Lil’ Native is a phenomenal knife; with a compression lock. I’ve got one in CruWear, another in 20CV, and intend to collect more. However, If the only LN available to me were this slip joint version… then I wouldn’t own one.
I’ve the Squeak, the Urban and I had a HH UKPK. I sold the UKPK as I really didn’t like it and I gave the Squeak to my wife. None of them has really appealed to me and I can’t see myself going for the Lil Native. My Enzo PK70’s are still my favourite uk carries.
I much preferred the HH UKPK when I swapped the scales out. I think it's the blade shape and smooth action I really like. The Spidie hole is a great design and more comfortable than a stud to operate. I'll have to check out the PK70! Thanks for the comment
Personally I do think the lil native feels more premium. Very solid in the hand. The clip is a disaster, but to be honest a knife this size is better of without a clip entirely in my view, so just take it off and back pocket carry it IMO. Beyond that, it's got a great feel to it, quick and easy to deploy. The UKPK is of course longer, but in practical use I'd value discretion over an extra inch of blade in the UK to be honest. I always wonder if the UKPK would pass the test in court if really pushed, case law suggests the entire blade (not just the sharpened bit) needs to be under 3in so the UKPK always feels a tad risky to me. The Urban is a good option and better value for money, but if money is no issue then the lil native slipit is probably the pick of the bunch for UK EDC (in my opinion of course).
@ your name is somewhat ironic given your approach is ‘Google it’… meanwhile case law has established it’s not just the cutting edge, and it turns out it’s the law that matters not a webpage. Hence why we can’t all carry around folding spears with a nice short cutting length.. So as I said, it’s somewhat risky.
@@MPD90 you don’t the think the gov knows the laws they enforce? 😂 as stated clearly on the constantly updated gov.uk website, you’re allowed to carry a non-locking sub 3” cutting edge WITH A VALID REASON. So a “folding spear” with a blade under 3” would be legal as long as you had good reason to carry it ie you were about to go spear fishing. But without a valid reason, which would be very difficult to prove in court for a spear, you could and would still be arrested and charged with the offence (carrying a weapon in public without a valid reason). Maybe read the gov web page as I suggested? 😂
@@ObjectiveAnalysis I like how you put the bit you got completely wrong in capitals. You DO NOT NEED A VALID REASON to carry a sub-3 inch non-locking knife, that's sort of the whole point buddy. So if you can't get the most basic fundamental rule right, what makes you think you have the first clue about the caselaw on this topic? Try learning something rather than just running your mouth..
They sold out quite quickly the first time round and then I started seeing all the great reviews and comments on Facebook. Holding the knife in hand, I just don't think the hype is justified!
It's a true tragedy that grown adults are told they can't have a locking knife, like their little kids. And why can't it have a lock? It's still a knife and is still capable of doing everything a locking knife can, other than the fact it could chop your fingers off without a lock.
I have one. It's great. Apart from over priced, my biggest gripe is the contact point of the clip against the textured G10 scales. A potential pocket shredder My only other Spyderco is a Squeak on which the contact point meets a smooth Spyderco logo, as I believe is the case on the Urban and UKPK. An excellent half stop as on the Squeak would definitely improve the Lil Native, but it still can't close on you no matter how it's held. Arguably the best UK 'friendly' knife in my humble opinion .I wouldn't hesitate to replace if lost. 🔥 🤺 🔥
Thank you for your video.I couldn't decide between Lil Native and UKPK. At the UKPK I don't like the FRN without washer. The G10 on the Lil native looks more premium, but your video showed me the other weaknesses. I'll wait for a better version of the UKPK. 100€ for frn and without washer is a nogo for me.
I think it was intentionally made to cater to a different set of preferences than the other SLIPITs, based on a good bit of customer feedback. The lack of jimping and half-stop were things some people said they liked. Some people also don't like the wire clips in general and want a sturdier clip on a sturdier knife or more carry options, but on that point I do actually agree. A discreet wire clip makes more sense when it is partially marketed to be carried in very "knife conscious" part of the world. Not sure that the pinching would ever actually be an issue for me. I own knives that could theoretically do that, but never have. I like the locking versions of the knife more (the compression lock wharncliffe or the upcoming thinner lightweight versions). Maybe there will be more non-locking variations that are closer to the other knives. I do love my UKPK Salt, and that's about as small of a knife I like with few exceptions because I prefer longer cutting edges and taller hand-filling handles.
I can see the merit in having different design features to please different folk. I just don't feel this package works for me. I'll give it another chance though, maybe with an aftermarket clip.
Thanks for the honest review! Don't have one, but from your description it sounds like a knife that doesn't suit me either. The pocket clip alone is kind of a deal-breaker. Not only is it not deep carry, but also really ugly 😅
I'm always hyped when I get a new knife, but I think there are better options out there, especially for the price! I'm already looking into a new clip. I shouldn't have to spend MORE to get this right though.
I actually really like, I am saving up for one now, great video and fair review, but that said I still love the looks of it. And subscribe to your channel to.
