    Well, I love the fact that one can get a aftermarket cylinder set for cheap instead going to official Stihl store and getting ripped off. In my eastern European surroundings I can find a good old 026 for around 150€. Or a non running one for 50-100€. The service guys ask 200-250€ for a cylinder change. And if you are good with a Dremel, the power probably is still there, and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. 026 is the saw I suggest to homeowners. And pretty much all parts are available.

      @KrisjanisZarins Right on the money with your comment. I believe the power will still be there (plus a bunch more), but I wanted to do a base-line dyno run/test cuts with an out-of-the-box cylinder prior to putting the grinder to it. We plan to do the full build and document progress or regress on the dyno along the way. Thanks for joining-in the conversation with all of us!!

    I like seeing the results of a direct bolt on of a kit like that. I imagine a lot of people just buy those and throw them on expecting better results.

      @FarmlessFarmer-xs1he I know, RIGHT??!! I speculated it would not perform as well as the stock cyl, but was astonished at the dismal results. Bigger SHOULD be better. ...and it will be with a little bit of grinding (I hope). It will probably force another video; attempt replicate the stock port timing/shape and re-dyno before porting further.

      I’d be very interested to see how the big bore kit performed with porting taken to the specs of the stock cylinder as closely as you could do because I dont think anyone else has a dyno video like that out there. And you’re working with a saw that most average folks could afford to get into and that makes a great first saw for people to tear into and have a go at it themselves.
      Guys like me who become a little obsessed with numbers would watch every video if you made a tiny change each time no matter how many videos you make.

      @FarmlessFarmer-xs1he I was thinking the same thing; maybe some short(er) vids with 2 or three changes and results in the same video? The drawback, with no base gasket, I have to let the sealant cure (at least) 4 hours before I can test it and clean-up of surfaces between coats of permatex. Could turn base far enough to use a base gasket to emulate a base gasket delete, I guess.

    A lot of good information in this video I love my 026 I've had the saw since it was brand new in the early 90s. Still running completely stock, never changed piston bearings. Nothing .still has incredible compression and it's screams. I'm always tempted to screw with it. And put a new cylinder in piston in it. But I don't dare until it really goes South. It cuts about a cord to 2 cords of firewood every year and miscellaneous around the yard tree trimmings .

      @chriss8206 This is the first 026 that I've owned and it's a nice sized saw between too small and big. Like you, I used to hate to mess with a good running saw; I've found a compromise though with the Aftermarket parts... I mess with the AM stuff and leave the stock stuff alone; by that I mean, my original cylinder, piston, etc... are still in their original condition; it can all be put right back on to put the saw back in its original config with its original parts... just like it was. If this cylinder works out well (we're up to about 4.5hp with it right now... quite a few mods tweaks done to it since this particular video... all in an 026 playlist), and I so choose, I can duplicate the stuff into the orig cyl. Thanks for joining-in!

    This saw sounds fantastic, I’m a little behind here, looking forward to seeing the saw development.

      @Archer_82 It's coming along; good to hear from you again; hope all is well with you and your loved-ones. There's been some up and downs, but sealer is setting-up as we speak for the next phase of testing. I think think this one may be fun to test EACH step along the way.

    Happy New Year's. Didn't take you long you get posting this year.
    Not an impressive " upgrade" but I'm sure you'll remedy that.

      @Kevin.L_ Happy New Year to you too, Kevin. The results were SURE disappointing, weren't they? I knew intake and squish would be bad, but didn't expect it to be THAT bad.

    What does the muffler kit do for the saw.

    • @HayChaffandSawdust1
      @HayChaffandSawdust1  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @vincewoolley6774 On many chainsaws, the muffler is a pinch point in the system which restricts air flow capability... (sort of like putting a potato in someone's exhaust pipe to make their car not run with any power.) Modifying the muffler with an appropriate(ish) size/shape hole with allow more air into and out of the saw engine; it also promotes cooling of the engine. For a short answer.

    026 44mm bore is 49cc. Later model MS260 44.7mm bore is 50cc.

    @karlsborgwi.jewell9919 I see your comment in my notifications, but not anywhere else; I even tried fresh kerosene in the computer with no luck 🤯🤯 . The fuel I run is 88 octane non-ethanol fuel that I keep on-hand here; it also gets treated with Sta-Bil when I take delivery.
