    I mean it rule of thumb whenever you buy new clothes to wash them on a cold cycle before you wear them. That was in printed in me when I started buying my own clothes by my mother. Now she said in the hottest water possible that that’ll cause fading cold waters perfectly feasible. Even new underwear and new socks should be washed before wearing. It’s not just about the dies. It’s about whether or not they used a specific chemical when they were creating the clothes that could potentially cause irritation. So obviously don’t throw it in the dryer. If it’s not something that can handle dryer let it drip dry. Also, I wouldn’t recommend doing this in a bathtub especially if you’re a renter, it will leave a stain that sometimes not even bleach can get out. If you’re worried about it, staying in your washing machine after you do a load of brand new dark clothes, do a clean cycle immediately after that load.

    • @angelabenedict
      @angelabenedict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a super bad habit I have to not wash clothes prior to wearing them. When their second hand I always wash them. But I have this weird hang up from when I was young and poor and like to keep the 'new' on my clothes as much as possible so I would wear them straight off the rack And wear them gently. It's something that I've kind of continued doing. It's a bad habit and this is definitely the first time I've ever dyed myself so I'm going to try and break myself of it as much as possible.

    • @taffieiii

      @@angelabenedict I completely get it one of my favorite things in the world is in brand new pack of socks and wear them. I grew up in a hoarder home so most of the time my clothes were destroyed. My bedroom is often used as a storage unit for My mom’s extra BS. One of my favorite things in the world as a kid was to get a brand new pair of socks and wear them until I couldn’t wear them anymore and anytime I got a new piece of clothing I would try and wear it as much as I could before it got lost or destroyed and I mean the day that I got it. I used to get screamed at for not washing my clothes before wearing them because she didn’t understand why I was the was I was despite her all still living there. And if she would wash clothes, her favorite thing in the world was to bleach clothing so I didn’t have a lot of good black clothing growing up that would last beyond a wash or she would use vinegar, and I can’t stand the smell of my clothes afterwards because it was linger in them. It really wasn’t until I moved out of my mothers house that I was able (taught by my now mother-in-law) how to start properly caring for my own things without having to worry about other peoples stuff affecting my personal living space. But eventually I
      Was told it was what caused me to break out from not not washing the clothes before hand and that’s when I found out that they sometimes spray a preservative on clothing at Walmart and big box brand stores to keep bugs away from it(I was very lucky that my “boyfriends”mom, at that time, really loved me so she took it on herself to teach me all the things my mother didn’t) Also right after I had my son, I gained in an extreme obsessive compulsive disorder, so like if it touches the ground, it Has to be washed.

    This happened once or twice to me, though in less spectacular fashion. The jeans many of us wore in the 80s were overdyed, so the first couple of times you wore them, you'd end up with a navy blue butt. IIRC I tended to go for Wranglers drainpipe jeans, as they had elasticated denim with a lot of stretch to them. We liked them tight back then, but not uncomfortable.

    I'm new here. You look great as always.
    Thanks for the information about Killstar, that sometimes things can be like that.
    Once I ordered cotton hoodie and almost transparent t-shirt, the quality is really good. When I placed the t-shirt to the bath, it painted the water pretty strongly, so I'm lucky, that it didn't paint my skin. Thee wasn't such label on it.
    Early I thought that things from Killstar or Tripp or Punkrave etc are expensive only for poor countries like my Ukraine, because if you live in own flat, don't have children or pets, and a car, and you are antisocial introvert, 400$ is enough to live, and 60$ it's many. If someone has a car or children or has to pay a rent for a flat - then yes, they need 600-1000+. So in US/UK that clothing is identified like not a cheap one too? It's a surprise for me, but good to know.
    Once I thought - in series and movies it's often the thing, when they show a subcultural character - gothic/punky/darky etc, like they are from the poor family, BUT IN SO COOL CLOTHING! I thought - guuuuuuys! (and girls) - THAT CLOTHING IS EXPENSIVE, that New-rockish boots are not cheap, THE CHARACTER FROM THE POOR FAMILY CAN'T WEAR THAT. Then I thought - maybe I mistake, and even if that shoes cost 150$, and the hour rate is not less then 15$, then they have to work only 10 hours for it. 1-2 days. So not?

    Not just Killstar.. I bought a short light jacket from Dark In Love and wore it to a festival, brand new.. It luckily only transferred a bit, but I had some grey-blue parts on my arm at the end of the day. By far nothing close to what you experienced, but still not pleasant. And they had not tag mentioning that you should wash it prior. Ah well..

    We seem to have a similar taste in clothing. ;) I have the velvet duster and the spider web dress and they belong to my favourite things from Killstar. I have other dusters from them, too, they are so beautiful! And I made a similar experience with the dye. I had one of these burn out velvet dresses with long sleeves and a plain velvet collar. I wore it without washing it first and went to a friend for having a coffee. He called me later and said there were black stains on his table and he was a bit upset. He could remove the stains and I washed my dress. ;)

    That aside though, Killstar has always been really good quality for me. I've gotten a couple duds over the years, but it was less a quality issue and more of a.. not sure how to describe it haha. I had one top in particular that had a collar bit - but it was way too long. Built for a giraffe or something, so the straps sagged down over the bust line. Very strange... Otherwise I have pieces I've worn to death that still look great! Foxblood is another similarly priced shop that has beautiful pieces. More simple so they make good layering and base items that you can dress up.

    Oh i know this one... I had this happen to me as well with a dress from killstar 😂 Or with several pieces with the same fabric even. Actually, judging by your description i think it's actually the same dress as yours. Does it have a paisley pattern? Burnout velvet damask like you said, bell sleeves, lacing on the front and cut out shoulders. I was also blue everywhere, including on my face, not fun! It didn't get as extreme as in your case, because i only tried it on for like an hour or so at home i think, and realized in time what was happening. I remember i got so pissed off that it ruined my makeup! That dress needed two washes before that stopped happening.

    I had sworn off buying anything from Killstar for such a long time. The cold shoulder dress is something I've had my eye on for a while and seeing you in it might make me change my mind about buying it.... You look amazing in everything you've bought. Now, I need to convince myself I don't need that dress.... Killstar has had quality issues for a while. The last dress I bought directly from them was the Misty Night Maxi Dress and it has a ton of buttons up the front. As soon as I took her out of the packaging, one of the buttons popped off. Nothing too horrible and is an easy fix but you don't expect that to happen as soon as you get your item. I don't even think I had tried her on yet, I was just unbuttoning the front.... *sigh* oh well.

    • @angelabenedict
      @angelabenedict  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Size up if you're above average boobie size on the omen dress. From my experience, it's a little too small to cover bigger busts. The medium for me did the trick. I'm so sorry about the buttons. I mean, it's good that it's an easy fix but it's not like they price for things like that. Their upper mid end on the cost scale. Definitely not budget-wear. If you paid under $20 we kinda have the attitude of 'oh well, you get what you pay for' but Killstar is not cheaply priced so at the very least the buttons need to be properly affixed.

    Fantastic haul Angela!! You wear these better than the models. I’d buy all of them now. (The clothes, not the models 😳😂🖤)
    I wear new Killstar with tights, etc; it prevents Smurfification, and I’m often cold from my Hashi’s anyway. I lost 70lbs, I am now a size 14/Killstar XXL and I can fit into anything they make… My wallet is DOOOOOOMED 💀💀💀
    I’ve been a tie dye artist for 8 years. I use professional grade “procion” dye; that bathtub water looks like one of my dye washouts! Black shades are composites of a zillion different colors. I have to use 4x-8x as much black powdered dye, as any other color for an acceptable black result because of the number of pigments required. There are blue-blacks, purple-blacks, etc and dye suppliers let you know what’s what. Killstar wants to provide a super rich black garment, and that’s going to require a MOUNTAIN of dye. Almost literally. 😅 So we have to do one final dye washout before we can wear their garments without becoming a creature from Avatar. 👽💙🖤

    I would have been mad and frustrated if I got dyed like that. I would have put it on straight out of the bag as well. and if someone bought a new outfit and went to the club, it definitely would have ruined their night. This is definitely good to know about the dye.I hope they change the tags with a wash before wearing tag or something. I have only bought bags and swim wear from them, but I had to go from a M to L on swimwear because the boob part didn't fit me even though the rest fit.

  • @RymVri108

    🤣🤣🤣 The blue suits you, anyway. I had a fuzzy brown sweater in high school. I wore it over a tank top one day. It got hot and I pulled it off of me to find that it had left little brown fuzzies ALL OVER my back, chest, and arms and I looked like an ape. I was already teased for being hairy and it was the 90's so this was mortifying. For those who don't know, wash your new clothes or soak them in some water with white vinegar. The smell dissipates, but it helps lock the dye into the fabric more so less washes out.
