- AHHHH I am so, so excited to finally be bringing this series to my channel. Welcome, everyone, to Rimworld - ala Sims 2! lol. I really hope that you all enjoy this introduction to one of my other all-time favourite games, with some familiar characters to play with!
This is my first time trying to record and upload Rimworld gameplay so if you have any suggestions for improvements, do let me know in the comments.
Hope you enjoy, thank you for watching!

I've watched maybe half a dozen Sims YT videos over the years, though I played the heck out of the first 3 Sims 15-20 years ago. But I have to sheepishly admit I have 4200+ hrs in Rimworld, and I put on various RW creators' videos on in the background when I work.
That's a bunch of unnecessary background to say that I loved your machinima intro! It's unique to me for being the first Sim-RW crossover I've ever seen.
A lot of vocal RW commenters seem to aggressively focus on min-maxing the game. I think the game's quantified and mechanistic style lends itself to players' risk aversion. We want consistent hoarding and to make line go up. Doesn't matter what we're measuring -- human leather dusters, colony pawns, simple meals in the freezer, etc. I'll admit my natural tendencies make me that kind of RW player.
But after all my hours in RW, min-maxing the same killbox base with tough psychopath pawns in cataphract armor every time is booooring. From Pete as well as AdamVsEverything, Samuel Streamer / Roll1d2, and many others, I like to see how different people approach the game. And if I want different in such a mechanistic game, then that means not min-maxing. Or at least voluntarily taking on various sets of gameplay parameters or restrictions which require a DIFFERENT kind of min-maxing. I'm currently struggling with a "no mental breaks permitted" game (250% threat with no mood handicap bonus) right now and the focus on comfort and luxury is pretty tough (and also having to sustain pawn addictions b/c I can't allow them to go into withdrawal for the mood hit :( ).
Your modlist tells me you defo have spent enough time to poke around the workshop top favorites and pick out your own list! Not sure how beastly your PC is, but Common Sense takes up more CPU overhead than vanilla (as any mod with calculation requirements will do). That may slow down your mid-late game. I've found it's manageable to just plan my base and work schedules/areas out a bit more simply and robustly, as an alternative to running Common Sense (it's a great mod though, for smaller games).
Same goes for Door Mats. I used this one for a long time, but then I learned to simply assign more pawns to cleaning. Not sure that "more pawns for cleaning" is less processing overhead than "simple modded furniture item that reduces filth". :P
But it's all just choices we can each make, and we each just choose the ones that make us happy. There are so many cool little mods that make tiny changes to QoL or game balance/mechanics that I have to think really hard about which ones provide enough unique gameplay value within my CPU and stability budget. Mod conflicts are a pain -- the 1.5 update forced me to review everything from scratch, and my current modlist is now embarrassingly (for a RW addict) down to under 100 mods from the previous bloated 370 mods I used to run... x.X
That said, Mortar Accuracy is totes worth it! I love that mod. Snap Out! is great, too (though in my previous recent runs I forewent it in favor of using the vanilla expedient measure of unarmed beating my mental break pawns into submission. I even built a back alley space behind my dining hall for a fight club, complete with dumpsters and cars). Otherwise I'm assuming you won't go super combat heavy. If you were, there are some similarly lightweight near-vanilla mods that adjust the vanilla combat balance so that your pawns don't spray the landscape with bullets while trying to kill a manhunter boomrat at a range of 5 cells. :P
With your Sims background and choice to use facial animations, there are some really cool pawn psychology and romance mods I think you might like. 1-2-3 Personalities M1, M2, and maybe eventually M3 is a neat rework of how pawns think and feel. The 1-2-3 Personalities mods also have several sub-mods that provide lenses for pawn personality types -- Enneagrams, 16 Personalities, Anime character archetypes, RPG alignments. :D I wish I could say more about it, but it hasn't been compatible with my other current mods, so I'm itching to start a new run focused on more fleshed out pawn interactions, relationships, and personalities.
There are also some romance mods. Not sure which ones are still current (just because a mod has had its version number updated to 1.5 doesn't mean it's 100% compatible/functional any more, I've found). Looks like Romance on the Rim is current. If it still works 100%, it's pretty neat. There are also Romance Tweaks, Less Stupid Romance Attempt, and Gradual Romance. And of course, the big gorilla Vanilla Expanded has a Social Interactions mod. Either Romance on the Rim or Social Interactions would help to bring a little more Sims into your Rimworld play, if that's something you or your viewers might enjoy. There's also the infamous non-Steam mod RimJobWorld, but... well. It's a little too much woo-hoo for family friendly Sims content. Though vanilla Rimworld war crimes are also a bit too much for family friendly Sims content. :D
Anyway, I'm excited to see such a different initial premise for a RW start! Please don't take any of my unsolicited comments as any kind of criticism or pressure -- you can take them or leave them. Hopefully I'll see you in future comments as I catch up with your episodes!
Whenever i find myself in the difficult place of explaining rimworld to someone whos never heard of it, i always describe it as 'The Sims with Warcrimes'
Im glad youve taken that as literally as possible
😂😂 perfect description!
Since when did the sims not have warcrimes?
@@notacomputer5486 😂😂
Ohh, yes! Two of my favorite games together in an insane crossover! This is such an awesome idea, and I absolutely love the storytelling you put into this with the machinima bit. I wonder, how many human leather hats will be made throughout these series 😄
Wow I did not expect that machinima intro! It was so good!!! Man, especially that scene inside of the spaceship blew me away. Your husband is right, you should totally keep making them ❤ This seems like a cute game - the little characters adapting the personalities of their sims counterparts on their own was too funny 😂
Thank you Ani! You have no idea how many times I almost message you for help on the Machinima haha, it was a big learning process for me my goodness. But it was soo much fun!
Hehe, "cute" is a funny word to use to describe Rimworld but the pawns are certainly very small and cute! I hope you will keep watching and see all it has to offer ☺️❤️
Yay, you did it! I'm so excited for this. I love the cross-over with Sims 2, it fits so well. That intro was so captivating too!
This is incredible!! I knew there must be others out there. My current game is Dina, Nina, Morty, and a fire bug child.
Haha amazing!!
I am very impress with your ability to cross over. Good on you.
I never heard of this game before but I really enjoyed it. I love games with lots of details and I might binge :D
love this and loved the machinima
Hi. Cool concept. Loved the Sims loredump, really brought me back.
I BELIEVE the color coded mood bars have been incorporated into the base game and are no longer needed. Don’t quote me on that lol.
Oh thanks! I'll check that out x
They are!
@@autumnkoalefant I've just tested and my game doesn't seem to have them, is it hidden in options somewhere?
@@TeaAddict They appear as normal color unless they are at risk of a break. YMMV you might prefer to stick with the mod. Their icon will highlight with a color depending on the severity of the break
You totally should make more machinimas as the story unfolds. It'd be a great way to keep the connection to sims 2 strong.
Hi Tea Addict, please be informed that using the mod "Prepare Carefully" can actually ruin your game long term due to things like memory leaks, i recommend Character Editor, I only recently caved and chose this mod over Prepare Carefully and I gotta say, CE does the same things as Prepare Carefully with the added bonus of changing characters mid playthrough if u need it to, but otherwise it works just as well as Prepare Carefully at creating custom characters at the start of ur game. Unfortunately Prepare Carefully ruins ur saves and so even if u remove this from your game, that playthrough will face many issues in a few in game years. So you might want to create a new game, BUT you can save your pawns using Character Editor and then load them into a fresh game that way, so your characters can still continue their lives in a new map
Oh dear, I had no idea. Thank you for the heads up, I will have to looked into CE ❤️
You can't just surprise people with a masterpiece of cinema on a Sunday morning
😂😂 sorry ❤️
Sims 2 Machinima mixed with Rimworld? Heck yes!
ohh love the machinima! i've always wanted to play rimworld but it looks very confusing & overwhelming to learn. now i might want to buy the game after watching you play!!
It's the kind of game you can play for 2000 hours and still not fully master, especially with the absolutely popping mod community, with hundreds and hundreds of DLC quality mods, and thousands of ... other... options
I used to play the Sims series since the first basegame came out and I loved it so much. Somehow never had fun with Sims 4 and was kind of heartbroken. Then I discovered Rimworld. It's my new game love! If you start with just the basegame, maybe add just a few quality of life mods after a bit and take it slow, you'll get into it no problem. 🙂
The first run I played without enemies just to learn the mechanisms of the game. I found it much less overwhelming than Oxygen not included.
It is overwhelming at first but Rimworld is very customizable so the key is to just learn bits at a time and experiment.
Best. Intro. Ever. 👏 So fabulously done and so hooked by the story! This seems interesting but complex but like it could be my cup of tea so thanks for sharing! Interested in seeing more and would love to see more machinimas!
PT-9: Okay Alex, Rimworlds usually use silver as currency, so you'll want to convert some of your family's simoleons into silver before you leave. But you can also barter in a pinch, so your charming fiancee Lucy is going to be extremely useful as a price negotiator.
hahaha yes! This!
PT-9: And before you go, make sure to transfer a few simoleons to Johnny and Jill's trust funds. Once you're out of orbit you can't really manage a bank account, now can you?
Omg! I've always heard of Rimworld but never really engaged with it, sp this crossover episode with The Sims is the perfect excuse! I already love this series :)
Oh wow, you couldn't just make a Rimworld series, could you? Had to make it awesome and amazing! 😄❤ That machinima intro was so full of nostalgia, lore, great storytelling and so well made! Absolutely loving this series already. 😊❤ And I LOVE how you combined the two worlds into one, translated their personalities, looks, skills, everything! The transition of the machinima into the crashlanding! 💫😍 It will be wonderful to follow along and see where this will go. Very excited for this series. 😊 Oh and PT9 stepping in to help was such a cool idea!
@@StoriesNStrategy hahaha thank you so much, I had way too much fun doing this whole episode 🥰
This series seems so great! Can’t wait for more videos to come
This i will follow. Great job!
Yo, that intro was absolutely amazing!!
Epic Beginning. Just started watching, we need more crossover scenarios
Omg I love this idea so much like omg it's everything I've wanted to do!!
This is so fun to watch, i need more
Wow, awesome intro. You got my interest.
I think wood will be your main enemy for a while. I’ve just started a cold tundra playthrough and that has been a bottleneck for me as well. In my desperation I ended up claiming a second tile nearby my first one where I can occasionally send out a pawn or two to grab some of the resources, which has come in handy. Luckily it looks like it won’t get too terribly hot on your map, so not much worry about crops dying from heat.
Yeah we are definitely in a cold desert. We do have temperate biome only 3 tiles away, I could easily move the settlement there after we are stable but idk, the desert could be a fun challenge too! But yes we will definitely struggle for wood, my plan was to raid any nearby wood farming operations se stumble across haha
The Set Up Camp mod let's you make temporary camps out in the world to gather resources, hunt, or find ancient dangers. Great for long caravan trips
A second colony is totally viable, not desperate. Your doing fine. It's always good to have a fall back plan on the Rim 👍
Sorry for missing the premiere but I will watch this evening after work, soooo excited to see it all. 😍🥰
Loved the video! Interested to see where it goes! :)
Hello! Just discovered this channel through this video being recommended. Looking good so far, and just the perfect mix of not playing hyperoptimally + nice explanations for people to learn from. I'll be recommending this to some Rimworld novices!
Observation: you can's sow proper trees yet due to low skill, but you can do fibercorn for some wood - and in a desert, it's not too bad of a work investment.
Thank you, great shout re: the fibrecorn!
this is such a fun idea, looking forward to seeing more
This is AWESOME!!!!
Thank you!! I definitely put my heart into this one so your kindness is very much appreciated 👍🏼
@@TeaAddict Mr. Dramatisim coming thru :P
@@DramatiSim wait really?? Omg hi Matt!
i love this alot more than i expected
what a great beginning for a great series!
This is awesome! Such a good idea :)
Great work on the intro! Don’t forget to rip the floors up for some more materials. If you need more crop room, the potatoes grow pretty well in the less fertile soil too
Yes! I realised I'd missed the floors materials while I was editing haha. Thank you for the tip about the potatoes, that will definitely come in handy I think...
You know what? If you are a writing type, I would absolutely LOVE to see this as a full story or even a novel. Love the premise! Glad I got randomly suggested your channel!
I used to be the writing type! - a long, long time ago haha. I studied English Literature and Drama at University which kind of killed any desire to write for a long time. But maybe someday, I will write this as a book 😊
RIMWORLD !!!!!! Bouncy, Bouncy 😂😂😂
I absolutely loved this - especially the machinima but it really caught me off guard when Alexander called her "mum" since I'm American. Never really considered how other player's languages and cultures would impact the pre-mades haha
😂 I've actually noticed that with our accent versus yours it sounds as different as it is spelled! I tend to call my mother "mama" like a Regency English person. Lol
I like the concept and your intro set it all up very well. Welcome to the Rim! Good luck finding Bella. Your going to traumatiz some of your followers 😅.
😈 that's the plan! Teehee
I think i might try and do something similar! Im stuck between maybe doing something with either Sims 2 Strangerville or Sims 3 Moonlight falls; i could explore the anomaly dlc with strangerville in particular and or explore biotechs family and genetics with moonlight falls... I might just do both! All i can do is thank you for the inspiration cant wait to try and combine these two amazing games... Cant wait to see where your story goes im definitely here for the ride!!!!
Great set out the theme of this playthrough.
I haven't any completed an ending of Rimworld, I have about 5,100 hours of clock in some from left on, of course. I usually play on community builder or adventurer story for more of the base building with the game.
Pete Complete is great with his Rimworld series. I usually watch Rhadamat (might miss spell it) and Mr Samuel Streamer.
Man, a small mod list. My current game mods is 99 mods from 250 mods with the recent DLC/update. Mostly due to quality with the newest update and re reading my mods and removing ones did the same also, do I actually use that mode. Minify more might be good if you want some features of minify everything but more limited.
Be interesting to see how the ideolgian will develop and change. I know nothing about the Sims lore, nor did I know it had lore to be frank. So that cool to know.
Australian? If so I haven't encounter much Australian TH-camrs, despite being in Australia. If not I apologise.
Hey! Yeah I am similar with my hours clocked in the game haha, despite never finishing it properly!
I've watched a fair bit of Rhadamat too, very good stuff! I'll have to check out Mr Samuel, thanks for the recommendation :)
Yeah I play with a really small mod list considering what's out there for this game, though I'm always interested in checking out new mods. I'll look into "minify more", thank you, I hadn't heard of that one! I try to only use it for things that I can realistically see the pawns being able to move, even if it's dragging it or pushing it across the floor - the things that aren't able to be minifed in the vanilla game mystify me a little bit to be honest.
YES the Sims has heaps of lore! The story of Bella Goth in The Sims 2 that we are exploring is one of the most well-known storylines, but that game is chock full of amazing lore. The religion of the Watcher is from The Sims Medieval, which was a spinoff game around the Sims 3 era. I think it will be fun to develop it as we go!
And yes, Australian born and raised 😊
Pretty sure right clicking action buttons is a base game thing you can do. Select all kinda stuffs.
Oh, I love both Sims 2 and Rimworld!
Tons of mistakes is the standard. I'm going to enjoy watching you.
This is going to be good!
Venerated Animas could be bunnies or llamas since the sims loves them
Venerated animal could be an alpaca since they are similar to llamas!
Amazing
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Oh, you are super cool!
Thank you 🤓🤓

That's what my hubby is calling it 😅
So who's gonna be the mechanitor :)
