Imho this is the most underated scuba channel on youtube, period. TH-cams algorithm is pitiful towards useful content. Everyone who watches some sort of scuba related channel should have this gentleman's videos in their recommended feed. On a side not I would like to see some more of the vintage scuba content

No other manual is as informative and in-depth as the Savvy book. Manufacturer service manual are mostly screw A into B then insert into C. No why or how each part interacts to make us breath. Talke care Ivory and thanks for watching.

Hi Alex do they have the regulator with the hole in it for nourishment or sneaking a smoke !
They sure did. There was an attachment in the early 1960s to your 2nd stage with a bottle you could drink from. Funny how it didn't catch on with breathing and fluids in the same hose.

It is a very good point
Even If I have much info about most regulator assembly and settings, I'll buy that book because, I can't be ignorant of details when I service my own regulators.
I consider that that book should be known by every diver as a basic knowledge so this can avoid situations where fighting against the equipment can lead to a deadly panic situation.

It would be a good idea to include some of the information into the Open Water manuals. We all know every new diver reads that book cover to cover, right!

A great video would be what were the most reliable regulators you have serviced since 1969. I loved my Dacor XP but no one would service it anymore.
My Dacor Pacer was an excellent single hose but most double hoses were very simple and there for reliable.

Very interesting video! In all seriousness, if you should ever catalog all of your videos onto a DVD/DVD set- I would ,most certainly buy that and value it as an incredible resource. I realized that we can currently watch you at leisure on TH-cam, but one day this platform may go the route of Blockbuster, AOL, etc... anyways, I appreciate you sharing your knowledge in such an entertaining way with this community!
Much appreciate your feedback Scott. Never thought of putting them anywhere but TH-cam. I asked Kevin and its not practical to put them on DVD's as the number of videos and file size would run into 20+. Kevin has the originals so if TH-cam ever goes the way of AOL (are we dating ourselves or what), we can share them again. Thanks for watching my crazy self over and over.

You may want to create your own library by using a tool called youtube-dl, which allows you to download complete lists of youtube videos so you can enjoy them offline.
Alec, long time since the last time I commented but still loving the videos. I definitely still think you should set-up "The Alec Pierce Museum of Scuba Diving". Set-up down in Silver Springs Florida and do events for like reenactments of sea hunt. Could put in TV's showing these videos for different gear and era's. I'm willing to bet it would be a great place and be very popular.
Thank you James for the feedback. I would love to return to Silver Springs for another Sea Hunt Forever event, when safe for us old stone age divers. Planning to do more Sea Hunt in a few months when Kevin and I can get together at my ranch for a shooting day. Appreciate you vote of confidence in this old time diver.

Awesome book make sure you try to get the file version like this one Alec has as you can make a copy of the page you are working with in your shop and keep your book in the closet as long as you discard the copied page when done.

Don't know from memory as it's packed away. Mine is very old as 3 ring binders were replaced with spiral bound ends.

Video idea. buying used gear. what to look out for, is it worth it
Speaking of this you can get used rebreathers with extras for half the retail price. I think a lot of people bite the bullet, spend the cash and than it just sits in a closet
On my list of ideas for future videos. Maybe this spring.

I use this exact same book as a regulator servicing technician myself. This is possibly the best book for technicians I have ever come across. ☺️👍🏻

This reminds me of my books from college. I have a B.S. in Professional Flight (pilot) with a minor in Applied Science. I say that to highlight the Applied Science part...I had 8 different labs that were all about aircraft maintenance (just to be a pilot). We overhauled aircraft engine, hydraulic systems, electronic, etc. etc.
We had MANY great books and manuals like this. The Dale Crane library of books was AWESOME!!!, and the standard by which all other aircraft maintenance books want to be.
Side fact, he actually started the aviation program at the university I attended.
Funny how really good books/manuals stay much longer than mediocre ones. Good for pilots to know all about their aircraft not just pushing buttons. Thanks for sharing what a pilot should know. Now if we can only get divers to read a book.

I bought mine at my local dive shop.
Some dive shops carry it but it can be ordered directly from Scuba Tools. The link is in the videos description. A great read that I recommend to all divers.

Carl's comment was what I first though about. Chris Kohl's great lakes book has everything you need to know about diving in all the great lakes. I will put add this to my ideas list.

Chris Kohl's book on great lakes diving is a good resource if you like history and great photos! Unfortunately a fair bit of the coordinates are bunk, atleast they were for the sites I've tried. It's useful as a staring point, so you may have to do some more digging to get perfectly accurate findings.

Hi fathom! I have been diving shipwreck s in the great lakes since 1967
A lot of positions in chris choles book are given with
Loran A which was accurate within 5 miles !
Back in 1964 when I worked for national sea products out of Halifax 500 miles at sea a fix within 5 miles was pretty good !
then when
Loran C came along it got better depending how good you were tuning the reliever it got down to a couple hundred feet !
Then GPS came along and the Loran would show you one position and the GPS another a mile apart
If you were stationary the early GPS s would show your position moving around in a circle
You have to remember the Loran radio towers were on the east coast a thousand miles away
Being a gasline diver thru the 1970s most wrecks were and still are discovered by accident
For anybody starting out it is a good read !
We always figured if any body was uncapable of finding a shipwreck in the lake they shouldn't be out there looking for it !

@@carllafrance5510 That's really interesting about the Loran A and C, I had no idea! It makes sense why the GPS would be off, because of the intentional accuracy limiting by the US government up until 2000. Always thought it was written more recently/on more recent data. Thanks for the info on LORAN Carl, have a nice day aswell!
