I was a skateboarder back in my younger days and fell in love with a beautiful tan brunette girl at the beach. She was flirting with me while watching me perform some relatively easy skateboarding tricks. I only knew her for one short day but she hung out with me all day long. At the end of the day just before the sun set My parents said it was time to go. I wanted to kiss her so bad but like most kids I was to scared and filled with butterflies in my stomach, feeling like my heart was going to explode I chickened out and instead I said goodbye and gave her a smile. I jumped in the back of our old ford pickup truck bed with a slight sunburn and my skateboard in hand and drove out of her life forever. This song always haunts me and takes me back to that moment in time, back when I was just a Jr high kid and still had my innocence. Trudy was her name.

I played this at my husband's funeral this year, January 2021. The love of my life, 46 years old. I had to travel 4600 miles to be with him, and every day with him was just like heaven. I feel so, so fortunate to have had a love like this. So many people never do. I miss him with a constant, nagging, palpable ache.. that will never go away. I will find him 💗 until I'm in your arms again, Bub, jeg elsker dig 🇩🇰

"Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick?
The one that makes me scream." she said
"The one that makes me laugh." she said
And threw her arms around my neck
"Show me how you do it,
    And I promise you,
    I promise that
    I'll run away with you,
    I'll run away with you."
    Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face and kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow
"Why are you so far away?" she said,
    "Why won't you ever know
That I'm in love with you,
That I'm in love with you."
    You
    Soft and only
    You
    Lost and lonely
    You
    Strange as angels
    Dancing in the deepest oceans
    Twisting in the water
    You're just like a dream
    You're just like a dream
    Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
    I opened up my eyes
    And found myself alone alone
    Alone above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me
    You
    Soft and only
    You
    Lost and lonely
    You
    Just like heaven

I think she means to say, for her, it probably reminds of her times she's felt safe, more so at ease or content, and so hearing it makes her feel "safe," even if she doesn't realize that's why; because how could the sound of music actually make one safe? Try playing this when a grizzly bear is staring you down. Would you still feel safe?
Anyway, it's a good song! Stay safe!

@@1979France I grew up in Ireland. During the lockdown in April a new show called Normal People aired on TV. It was about Irish teenagers falling in love. The first two episodes were like watching my life played back to me. Though I am thousands of miles away now in a different land, I found myself walking late at night for miles in the countryside, reviewing what had happened to me. It was like I was haunted by the past. And this song was once again the soundtrack.

I went on a date with a girl that felt like unadulterated sunshine. Within 10 minutes I thought “Is this my future wife?”. I couldn’t stop smiling. That night I played this song on repeat for what must have been hours. On our 2nd date, she mentioned Just Like Heaven was one of her favorite songs; it always made her happy. I thought what a crazy coincidence but I kept it to myself. We ended the night dancing in my living room and I played this as the last song of the evening. We kissed as the song ended. She went home and texted me that she had fantastic night. She then ghosted me a few days later hahaha

This song takes me back to childhood during the 80's. A time when life was much simpler and people talked to each other, face to face, for hours. If you needed answers, you rode your bike to the library and hung out with Dewey Decimal. The entire summer was spent at the public pool where the air was full of chlorine, kids were taking turns seeing how far they could swim underwater on one breath, and for snacks we had Mello Yello and Chick-o-Sticks. Riding my bike all over town because everyone knew everyone and we looked out for each other and didn't have to worry about getting snatched up or shot at. If you got in trouble, you're bike was never fast enough to beat the phone call home to your parents and you were held accountable for your actions. No cellphones, no computers, no video games (unless your parents had money). We weren't allowed to sit in the house on a sunny day and we never ate a meal at home that wasn't at the table. My God, how I miss those years. I wish I would have realized how special they were.

my dad passed away in 2014, he was a huge music guy and loved various bands including the cure, which now happens to be one of my favorites. before me & my siblings were born when my mom & dad were dating he took her to an event on Valentine’s Day where you read a note to your loved one then throw it into a fire. she said that everybody else was reading poetry and Shakespeare, like really old soppy stuff. but my dad quoted this whole song. I remember sometimes he’d even sing it to her, or when we were in the car he’d put in his CD and I’d try to sing along to the lyrics and he’d look back at me and hold my hand. after he passed my mom hadn’t been able to listen to it since until recently in the car. it came on the radio and the only thing we could do was cry and share our memories about him. I miss my dad so much and I listen to this song everyday thinking about him.

You guys seriously don’t gotta ask if we’re still here in 2022, we’ll be here for the cure in 2080, all of your songs are absolutely timeless and every time I hear any song by the cure I almost cry now, tied to really good memories, Robert, all of the boys, thank you for your work, it’s very important to me

Sometimes when it gets very late I hear The Cure and his voice takes me back to a time I was happy with the love of my life. Makes me reminisce our wedding day and how beautiful it was. We are no longer together and the pain is unbearable. All I have is memories now and many things that were unsaid.

I played this song in a cover band the year it came out. Today, teaching my youngest son how to play it. It’s timeless.

This song is so amazing. It really helped me to cope with my clinical depression and it is indeed hard to be encouraged but this song has done a big help for me o enter the presence of God. It reminds me that God has been here all the time for me in my highs and lows. To God be all the glory

I remember southside Birmingham in the mid 90’s. It was one of the biggest bohemian neighborhoods in the country. I remember talking to girl in front of a record shop with this song playing. We fell in teenage love. We don’t really talk anymore but this song is something we do still talk about.
