For those who do not know where the picture comes from, it comes from a tv show called Bojack Horseman. The first 6 episodes build a world. The rest tries to explain a story of a star. This song plays at the denouement of season 3, the last episode, last scenes, last tragic moment. Bojack looks beyond, at a dusty field where horses run fast ahead. Those who have not watched Bojack Horseman may gawk at how ridiculous of a show it appears to be. Those who watch it, give it a chance, and peer into the deep complexity that is Bojack Horseman they understand. They understand this song. They understand crying at the end of an animated cartoon about a talking horse. Of course, this song is beautiful in and of itself. There is so much in this world that is sad, and if a sardonic and deeply rueful animated horse can explain that to me then I think it's a pretty good show.
I dont think is a marathon (just friendly saying), i think they were just running. Theyre horses after all. I think that was the point, just keep going. I cried a little too, great show.
It really does. I think they are meant to be mustangs, and they symbolize so much of what he had and lost, never had at all, and, probably, hold a bit of Secretariat's spirit as a runner before he, too, became part of the system.
I think the funniest part of this show is that we all sound like idiots, waxing poetic about the dumbest possible premise. It's all so good I worry the head writer will die from a heroin OD pretty soon.

BRENT BENT - Sarah represented all of the children growing up in Hollywood. It isn't only crying for her but what fame does to a child is even worse than an adult getting it later in life.

I've just finished the series and I now have yet another reason to enjoy this song. For those of you who don't know, Bojack Horseman is a wonderful show about alcohol abuse, relationships, parents, fame, suicide, comedy, and a funny half horse half man who just wants to be happy. This song is perfect for the show and I highly recommend you to go and watch it. It's on Netflix and it's 6 seasons and you can probably binge it in a week. This show honestly taught me a lot of lessons and I'm so thankful that the writers and producers made their crazy train ride a reality. Here's to the nobodys 🥂
I think he really is Secretariat. He was a racehorse that got into trouble because of betting. People place bets on horses and horse racing in order to benefit. Similarly, everyone bets on Bojack in order to benefit. Ana, PC, Diane, Lenny...If they intended that symmetry between the two, it was brilliantly done.

Listening to the song, I said to my daughter “that sounds like a Nina Simone song”...and immediately had to look it up. Thank you for making the effort to put this video together - it’s perfect. I don’t often re-watch stuff, but this one’s getting filed in ‘watch later’ for multiple views. As some comments already said, it’s unbelievable how much emotion a rueful animated horse (with the voice of Batman) can make you feel. It’s a one-way ticket to Feelsville. This show makes me immensely sad but somehow in a way that I like. Most aren't offered an opportunity to feel such emotion in a controlled environment. A bunch of animated characters made me so solemn. We've built a cage for ourselves here on earth. The entirety of the western world and some of the east is ensnared within in, one way or another. We all want to be seen, somehow. And its heart breaking.

Just a couple months ago I watched that last episode, and a couple days ago I decided to rewatch it all from the beginning, and couldn't, Bojack (at least in those first episodes) was such an asshole, seriously, and idk if it was just me, cause I sort of grew up watching the show, but I felt so proud of him, seeing just how much he grew in the latter seasons, even though he relapses again and again, he has gotten better, at least to some extent. I stopped wanting to continue watching, I couldn't even bare it anymore, got me questioning how i got into the show in the first place, how tf did I relate to this? Then, I kind of felt proud of myself, not in the "you did a good thing", but in the fact I've risen above something, I'm not the same asshole I used to be before, even though I may remain a fool, it's good to know I got to be a better version of myself, at least to some extent.
When you're younger and don't really know what's going on, I'm not sure if that's a good life or not. I got depression in my late teen years and have been struggling with it for about 9 years now. This year, I found spirituality as randomly as going outside and finding a butterfly fluttering. I navigated my difficult circumstances with higher perspective on things. I got into meditation, yoga, and tai chi as well. I started my journey on the knowledge of cosmos and even though I wasn't exactly happy, I was navigating with love in my heart. For the first time in my life, I had started to accept myself. Yesterday, I fell completely apart. I was coming back from somewhere, and sitting in the bus I cried my eyes out and spit nothing but venom in my heart. Just done with life, with myself, with everything. Just fucking done. I give up on my goals, on myself, on this world. I'm fucking done. I'm so tired. I don't wish to go back to when I knew less. I just wish to never wake up. I was rewatching BoJack last night and this song came up. It's been holding me since last night. Thank you.

Were Diane and Bojack alike (self-destructive)? Not at all. Diane was an empath, Bojack is a narcissist, a trauma-child who hurts people around him because he hasn't acknowledged how deep inside he was damaged by his past and parents. All seasons go through the different aspects of his destructive behaviour. Diane is not like that, she cares too much but that caring is not reciprocal (her marriage to Peanut Butter is not reciprocal, nor her friendship to Bojack; but her friendship to PrincessCarolyn and Todd is, that's why she "keeps" those friends). Diane DOES the hard work, she goes to therapy and insists on it, sees the relevance and urgency of it to "get better" and "turn herself around". Bojack, on the other hand, dismisses that MANY times, unlike Diane; because Bojack needs a different type of personal work and self-reflection, amends, alone-time. Bojack has flashes of clarity right after almost every self-destructive behavior (He helps PC, he tells Diane she shouldn't have him close to her, he feels bad about sleeping with Todd's close/crush friend, he tells Sarah Lynn she's worthy BUT he does it while having her for himself, pushing her to drink and go through a downhole again, takes advantage of her "family-like" relationship and doesn't even ask for what she's doing at the moment -she WINS an OSCAR, but he didn't care, that's why he didn't know and didn't ask for it-. Bojack consistent destructive behavior is what separates him from all other characters, the end reflects that: he doesn't lose his friends because of them, but because of HIM. Todd says it in season 3 too. It is HIM and it is HIM who needs to change himself, turn himself around; no one else has the task or duty "to change Bojack". Remember, how many psychologists does it take to change a light-bulb? "It doesn't matter how many, but the bulb has to want to change". #BojackTheHorseman #Diane

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON 3: Somebody explain to me the significance of the pack of horses at the end? Why did they make him decide to not commit suicide?
youscrewber I think it's a callback to the quote Secretariat told Bojack on TV, "Just keep running forward." Bojack's about to kill himself, but at the last second he sees these horses that remind him of secretariat and the connection he had with him. It tells him that instead of committing suicide, he just needs to move forward. That's what I took from it.
I think it's also the promise of belonging. Bojack is disillusioned by his tragic existence and after losing Sarah Lynn, who perhaps is his closest friend, contemplates suicide. He is tremendously alone but the "will-to-life is strong in this one", and the scene functions as a promise of a sweeter future than the one he is currently dredging through. His daughter is the main reason for optimism, but dramatic irony prevents him from knowing this yet. He sees a reason to "keep running, no matter what", he sees the promise of a meaningful existence. Secretariat didn't have anyone else, Bojack (although he doesn't know this yet), does.
youscrewber I'm pretty late, but I have something to add. Going off the markings and the location of the horses, those might actually be wild horses. Which in the Bojack world probably means a bunch of people who live free in the wilderness and just run. To Bojack, these guys are pretty much everything he wants. No stress, no worries, just living happy.

Normally he'd do something dumb like run away from the shooting of his own movie and his friends would worry about him, but in season 3, everyone except PB made him feel bad about himself. Just a couple months ago I watched that last episode, and a couple days ago I decided to rewatch it all from the beginning, and couldn't, Bojack (at least in those first episodes) was such an asshole, seriously, and idk if it was just me, cause I sort of grew up watching the show, but I felt so proud of him, seeing just how much he grew in the latter seasons, even though he relapses again and again, he has gotten better, at least to some extent.
I stopped wanting to continue watching, I couldn't even bare it anymore, got me questioning how i got into the show in the first place, how tf did I relate to this? Then, I kind of felt proud of myself, not in the "you did a good thing", but in the fact I've risen above something, I'm not the same asshole I used to be before, even though I may remain a fool, it's good to know I got to be a better version of myself, at least to some extent.

When you're younger and don't really know what's going on, I'm not sure if that's a good life or not. I got depression in my late teen years and have been struggling with it for about 9 years now. This year, I found spirituality as randomly as going outside and finding a butterfly fluttering. I navigated my difficult circumstances with higher perspective on things. I got into meditation, yoga, and tai chi as well. I started my journey on the knowledge of cosmos and even though I wasn't exactly happy, I was navigating with love in my heart. For the first time in my life, I had started to accept myself. Yesterday, I fell completely apart. I was coming back from somewhere, and sitting in the bus I cried my eyes out and spit nothing but venom in my heart. Just done with life, with myself, with everything. Just fucking done. I give up on my goals, on myself, on this world. I'm fucking done. I'm so tired. I don't wish to go back to when I knew less. I just wish to never wake up. I was rewatching BoJack last night and this song came up. It's been holding me since last night. Thank you.

Were Diane and Bojack alike (self-destructive)? Not at all. Diane was an empath, Bojack is a narcissist, a trauma-child who hurts people around him because he hasn't acknowledged how deep inside he was damaged by his past and parents. All seasons go through the different aspects of his destructive behaviour. Diane is not like that, she cares too much but that caring is not reciprocal (her marriage to Peanut Butter is not reciprocal, nor her friendship to Bojack; but her friendship to PrincessCarolyn and Todd is, that's why she "keeps" those friends). Diane DOES the hard work, she goes to therapy and insists on it, sees the relevance and urgency of it to "get better" and "turn herself around". Bojack, on the other hand, dismisses that MANY times, unlike Diane; because Bojack needs a different type of personal work and self-reflection, amends, alone-time. Bojack has flashes of clarity right after almost every self-destructive behavior (He helps PC, he tells Diane she shouldn't have him close to her, he feels bad about sleeping with Todd's close/crush friend, he tells Sarah Lynn she's worthy BUT he does it while having her for himself, pushing her to drink and go through a downhole again, takes advantage of her "family-like" relationship and doesn't even ask for what she's doing at the moment -she WINS an OSCAR, but he didn't care, that's why he didn't know and didn't ask for it-. Bojack consistent destructive behavior is what separates him from all other characters, the end reflects that: he doesn't lose his friends because of them, but because of HIM. Todd says it in season 3 too. It is HIM and it is HIM who needs to change himself, turn himself around; no one else has the task or duty "to change Bojack". Remember, how many psychologists does it take to change a light-bulb? "It doesn't matter how many, but the bulb has to want to change". #BojackTheHorseman #Diane

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR SEASON 3: Somebody explain to me the significance of the pack of horses at the end? Why did they make him decide to not commit suicide?
youscrewber I think it's a callback to the quote Secretariat told Bojack on TV, "Just keep running forward." Bojack's about to kill himself, but at the last second he sees these horses that remind him of secretariat and the connection he had with him. It tells him that instead of committing suicide, he just needs to move forward. That's what I took from it.
I think it's also the promise of belonging. Bojack is disillusioned by his tragic existence and after losing Sarah Lynn, who perhaps is his closest friend, contemplates suicide. He is tremendously alone but the "will-to-life is strong in this one", and the scene functions as a promise of a sweeter future than the one he is currently dredging through. His daughter is the main reason for optimism, but dramatic irony prevents him from knowing this yet. He sees a reason to "keep running, no matter what", he sees the promise of a meaningful existence. Secretariat didn't have anyone else, Bojack (although he doesn't know this yet), does.
youscrewber I'm pretty late, but I have something to add. Going off the markings and the location of the horses, those might actually be wild horses. Which in the Bojack world probably means a bunch of people who live free in the wilderness and just run.

Man, Bojack really got screwed over in S3 by his own friends considering he was such a nice guy to them for a change. Normally he'd do something dumb like run away from the shooting of his own movie and his friends would worry about him, but in season 3, everyone except PB made him feel bad about himself. Especially that bitch, Ana.
