A escadaria é relativamente “nova”, ele começou a renovar em 1990, mas acho que só nos anos 2010 que começou a ficar famosa. A biblioteca é linda, daqueles pontos escondidos até dos cariocas! Vale muito a pena visitar!
Hi! Thank you! I don’t remember now if there are sim card shops in the airport, but if there are, they will be: Vivo, Claro, and Tim. You can buy in any of them (you will find them in malls as well). Or at any newspaper stands throughout the city. You will need the attendant’s help to register it, as they usually ask for a CPF number (Brazilian Tax Payer number) to enable it. My preferred brand is Vivo, but any of those three should work.
Fica lotado aos sábados nas proximidades da escadaria! Não é perigoso, não. Tem bastante gente pelas ruas e policiamento. Só evita ir andando pelas ruazinhas laterais e na direção do bairro do Estácio. Muita gente sobe (ou desce) de Santa Teresa pela escadaria tbm. Dia de semana acho que fica até mais vazio, então melhor de aproveitar e tirar boas fotos. Só ficar esperto/a que deve ser tranquilo :)

That is true! I ended up doing it by myself, but I reckon with a guide it would have been even better :)
