    Hey JAKE!!!! KEEP YOUR EYES ON THAT FALLING TREE!!! Never EVER take your eyes off the tree when it is falling!!! NEVER EVER!! That tree can bounce and move unexpectedly and take you with it!! From a friend in Montana...

      I`ve worked in Horticulture and I know the Chainsaw can Kickback if you hit a knot.They`re a lovely couple and I don`t wish to patronise them in any shape or form but he could do with some more safety gear.Chainsaw trousers and jacket could save his life in that remote spot.

    You guys are by far my favourite channel. You do your thing your way, you have a strong code of morals and ethics but you NEVER preach, you have never lectured us tried to instruct us , or thought to give lessons to us. you explain what you do and why you do it FULL STOP. I love that and I love you guys. Thanks for including us in this exciting journey and I hang out for every episode.. Oh and Nicole your thumb nails are the BOMB!!!

    Another amazing visit with you all at Komorebi. I look forward ever week to a new video from you two. The gardens are absolutely flourishing, and those berries are rediculous! Love how we are left with pups on boat rides, kitties in laps and gorgeous sunsets. Stay well you two...see you next week❤️🥰❤️

    As a professional forester and logger, I'll tell Jake, just once, never ever fall trees without full safety gear. This includes most of all a hardhat. Widowmakers have killed more loggers than any other activity in the woods because they were not wearing a hardhat. In case you don't know what a widow maker is they are limbs that were broken by falling trees that get hung up in other branches and then fall unexpectedly. Even a small branch falling from 30' or more in height will kill you. Many times they will not fall right away but later. Seeing as how you two are far from civilization and medical care you need to take extra precautions. Also, wear chaps! Remember, it only takes one mistake to seriously injure or kill you. We viewers don't want that to happen. Several of the comments below are absolutely true.

    • @XAlpineSuptDN
      @XAlpineSuptDN 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I agree. And given your lack of saw skills maybe having some saw chaps would be good too. Especially since it seems like Jake works alone a lot. And that domino falling he did was pretty scary too. Essentially cutting a tree and standing under the other one that might fall out at any time. You are living on luck with your tree felling.

      People die in Central Park every year from widow makers. They dont listen, no one knows how this story will play out. They put themselves in danger on every level. They have gone to the dark side. Sending 🙏

    Easy tree felling: tie as high as you can on the tree you are felling. Use another tree in the safest direction as an anchor (closer to trunk) and get a hand winch (around 20.00usd) to take out the slack. You will never have a tree fall towards your home.

    Fantastic! I'm currently doing the same thing in my backyard due to lockdown. Just finished planting the garden. I have started cutting the next door neighbours fur tree down to build my rudimentary shed. Don't understand the
    funny looks they're giving me. Just been fishing. Cast my line into no14s fish pond. caught a whopper! Mr green wanted to punch me, but I'm safe due to social distancing. Later I'm cooking it over a live fire. Feeling great being off the grid but on it all at the same time. Tomorrow I'm strawberry picking at no16 while they are out. Awesome! I am finally self sufficient. Like you. ;-) Great video. Love watching.

    As tree company owner, that was a dangerous cut but hey you got it done. Maybe you already know this but a great knot for pretty much any application out there is a bowline and a running bowline. You can put massive amounts of preasure on them and they come right out. Nice job.

    Jake and Nicole, don’t know why, but this was an absolutely intriguing and delightful episode! When you took down the tree, I was going “Awww, maaan, it isn’t fully down, bummer”, and when you had to cut the second one, the camera angle was such that we couldn’t tell whether the pull of the first one was going to sweep the Yurt off its flooring. Then there was the “Oh Noooh”, and finally a sigh of relief. Gawd, I was feeling the incredible suspense. The rest of the video was this incredible montage of all the blessings coming your way, berries, food, garden, sleeping cuddly kitties, watchful and observant dogs, and best of all loving helpmates and companions. The colorful sunset - just wow. Life is incredible when you savor all of the details. Continued blessings!

    Make sure you watch the tree when it's falling and wear safety protections! My dad and some friends were cutting down a tree in our backyard (wearing safety protections) and they had to have a rope set up just to make sure that the tree falls in the direction they needed (they were only cutting on the opposite side so the tree would infact fall in the direction they needed), but the tree snapped off of the trunk, literally just fell off vertically then it fell onto the neighbors garage which we were trying to avoid. My dad and one of his friends flew/was dragged by the tree for about 15 feet (they were helping with the rope, but there was also a few anchor points for the rope aswell). The other friend who was chipping away at the tree had to run to avoid being crushed as it snapped in the middle of him using an axe. So the moral of this story is to wear protection and keep an eye on the tree.

    It's really good to see you folks getting those hazard trees out of there and down away from your Yurt. I think you will sleeep better nights during future big wind storms knowing nothing can fall anywhere near your place.

  • @cterrier
    @cterrier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Wondering instead of starting another project, if you should first clean up the area around the Yurt. There's a lot of down tree limbs and other vegetation. Besides being a walking hazard, its also a fire hazard as the limbs dry out. Also I imagine there's a lot of regrowing that's happening. Seems like you should increase the cleared space around the yurt and get rid of the junk/tree limbs. Probably extremely expensive to get a days rental on a Skid Steer or similar piece of equipment, but might be worth it in the long run. Yes, I know if would have be brought to the island via barge unless someone on the Island already has equipment that would do the job.

    I recently came across your channel and have been working my way through your videos from the beginning of your journey. You live in such a beautiful area, it is stunning. Im so impressed with all you have done, but had to comment on two things. Firstly so impressed with how you got those trees down, I dont know anything about felling trees, but Im so relieved for you both they came down safely and you, the yurt and the animals are a;; safe. I could see how the whole process was worrying you. Secondly that seaweed was the largest I have ever seen, so much attached to the vine. I have been worried about that very thing. Clearing a path where you walk and especially when moving heavy timber, your wood chipper, etc will be much safer, easier, even faster if you clear your walking path of things that can trip you up.

      Everyday we take risks.. getting in a car, walking across a street, we know that there is a risk you may end up injured or dead, yet we do it anyways. Nicole isn't cutting down trees, she milled a log. She chooses to take risks that other people refuse to take. What they are doing is a risk,. Making the decision to live in highly populated bear and cougar area was a risk, but they did it anyways. I agree being smart and knowing your machinery is important, but if she waits for a woodcutting class to come to the island they live on she will be 90.
