I own a 2016 Challenger SXT. It's my only vehicle, so a daily driver. I test drove what appealed to me (Camaro, Mustang, BRZ, Challenger), and the Challenger won on all counts: styling, standard features, back seat, trunk space, out the door price. Four years and 54,000 miles later I have zero regrets. Absolutely the best highway runner I've ever owned. Most don't realize it, but the chassis under the Challenger is an older Mercedes E Class, so designed for the autobahn. It eats up the miles effortlessly, and the more than capable 305 hp Pentastar V6 delivers it's EPA hwy estimate of 30 mpg, often times more. Ten hour days behind the wheel do not fatigue me. I still get a grin on my face when I see my Challenger sitting in the parking lot as I exit a store or restaurant. I've had zero reliability issues, and have no hesitation in recommending a base model Challenger SXT with V6. That 305 hp is more than most muscle cars had back in the day, and the 8 speed ZF auto trans is silky smooth. Sure, I coulda had a V8, but don't need or want the higher initial cost, the stiffer insurance costs, the less mpg, or the cylinder deactivation. If it wasn't for the sales volume of the V6, there'd be no Scat Pacs or Hellcats for the enthusiasts.
This is a brilliant write up. Indeed I remember as well when 305 Horsepower was supercar performance, when the driving experience mattered more than brute force. The Challenger, had really taken me off guard, I didn't expect the Driving Dynamics to be so well put together. Thanks so much for writing this, I really enjoyed reading it.

Chasing The Apex great content. Btw 3 moths ago I’m just got 2016 Dodge Challenger sxt blacktop and go mango color and I’m was surprise how well the car runs tbh.
I rented a Challenger for a week and I absolutely loved it. Drove 17 hrs on the highway and wasn't bored for nothing. Had a white sxt too. It was so much fun. It fits my style. I love aggressive cars. I'm planning on getting one soon. Felt like driving a legal racecar with a V6. Loved it
This is super well described! I love hearing that I'm not the only one blown away by its performance, I totally expected it to be underpowered unwieldy, and a tank.
I bought a 2016 SXT almost a year ago and I still smile at it like I just bought it. I got a few exhaust and performance mods and some exterior designs. The pedal is light. I don’t even know I’m going 80 on the highway sometimes. Only thing I hate is the blind spot.
Well said sir, honestly this car still to this day (if you look at my channel at all the cars) sits on the "Driver's car" pedal of "I'd have never have guessed it"
I must see that! It sounds brilliant! I'm always stoked when the man with the keys to the classic car closet takes his time to comment Thanks so much! ~Jason
Been driving a 2015 SXT Plus with Track Pack as my daily driver since new. Daily driving includes country roads, high speed interstate, and bumper to bumper city interstate. This is the best overall driver I've owned for the type of driving I do. Handles great, accelerates well, comfortable, plenty of high-tech (for a 2015), and good gas mileage. What's not to like?
We dialed back the engine note, and exhaust sound, frankly it wasn't an Eason Beast, and really wasn't that impressive. I was surprised, the darn thing turned, I mean it went around bends! ~Jason
Having owned a 2006 mustang gt 5 speed, I purchased a 2019 challenger sxt six months ago. Nearly the same horsepower, a much wider, smoother car, amazing trunk space. Being 50 now, with older parents , I needed a little extra room and luggage space. The car is surprisingly refined, swift, and a pleasure to drive. I haven’t driven the v8 versions, but mine feels much more European rear wheel drive luxury on a budget, than pony car. I feel it’s a true bargain and a great touring car. Not a sports car, but certainly a great touring car.
I do believe that's the most accurate description I've heard given, touring car indeed, and it felt far more European than I could have imagined, we have a Mustang review on this channel which was absolutely not built around the same purposeful experience of Exactly what you describe, "touring". Well done, you've described my emotion Exactly. Welcome to the Club! We are older folks ourselves. Thank you for taking the time to watch, and put together such a well thought out comment. Sincere thanks ~Jason
We are quiet grateful and we hope to have some of our viewers experience this with us, as time goes on. It's all about sharing our passion for driving. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment, we so appreciate it ~Jason
Luv my v-6! Has enough power and makes a great daily driver and financially suits me. Definitely great on gas and just luv the look of the challenger. Only downfall doesn’t have the sound of the v-8 however borla exhausts makes it sound pretty damn good which is why I’m ordering one!
Brayan Carmona you tube them and yes sounds good. I’ve been doing my research or video watching lol and many different options. I know it’s not gonna sound like a v-8 nor do I want that or I would of paid the extra money for one however it wakes it up and gives a great sound. Check the videos out and see what you like best.... at the end of the day it’s what you like! Good luck
This is the key will all things Automotive, as long as you enjoy it, as long as you find value, there doesn't need to be a justification to anyone else.
Great that there are many different POV angles from outside the vehicle and on highway! Some reviews u see is a video of them talking! We wanna see the vehicle as much! So I can appreciate ur efforts! Nice video!
It's a lot of fun to drive! It really loves to be on the highway! I can't believe it's not a v8 because it takes off really good! It's a joy to drive on a road trip. I've had mine for a while and love it.
I paid 22 k for my 2019 SXT brand new in November 2019. I agreed with everything you said and for that price what else can you say. I drove to Florida 7 hours straight with little road weariness FYI. It’s a great all around car. 29 mpg doing 78 all the way
I got Vision wheels for it. I stayed with the 18 inch wheels because it came with brand new Michelin tires. Added a stripe kit and a drop in K&N filter. Avoid an exhaust upgrade on the V6. It sounds terrible. The stock exhaust is fine. No drone
Search for driving nirvana fo sho! Nice review bro didn't expect u to drive muscle again after the stang and u guys are getting really good at this man almost commercials bro!
Our "Production Director" is really getting good! Indeed that's our search, and with every vehicle we find more and more, manufacturer hype isn't driving truth! ~Jason
Great review boss. I love that you review cars for what they are versus comparing them to cars that are not even in the same class. Keep up the great work and throw in a few Japanese cars.
Thanks! we review whatever we have the opportunity to review, and sometimes both brands will have a very passionate following. Absolutely we'll review a Yugo, if someone provides, it JDM won't be a problem, if someone offers it. ~Jason
I have a 2018 sxt plus. It handles very well. Also acceleration is nice when you need it. Thanks for showing it going into curves. I take mine out on the back roads of San Deigo.
Honestly, this was one of the first videos I had ever been involved in, and having tested this on twisty bit of road, it's a great deal more fun in that environment than the higher displacement counterpart in my opinion
Did he say it turns? I was always under the impression that Dodge made Cheap Cars, an interesting perspective. Perhaps I've been misled, I always thought in terms of American quality it was GM, Chevy, Ford, Dodge. Great video and Amazing presentation give us more boys! What's special that's coming?
I was very surprised myself, I can't speak to the quality of the build, only the driving dynamics, which I was rather impressed with for what it is. Indeed we do have something special coming, and it's an absolute secret! ~Jason
I just ran into your video (no pun intended, or was it? lol) and your review is spot on! I bought a brand new white Dodge Challenger SXT back in 2017 and I fell in love with how she drives right away, I was also not expecting that. I had a Nissan Sentra that I planned to use as my daily driver but that poor baby never stood a chance, though I still liked her; I ended up driving that one for occasional short trips to 7-eleven just to not have the engine get ruined, and the Challenger became my one and only favorite ever… I never had any issues at all but this year I decided to trade it in for a 2023 white Dodge Challenger SXT black-top because, you know, last-call badge and black-top package with black stripes. I think she’s a keeper and hopefully will last many, many years, God willing. Great video again, you got yourself a new subscriber here 😊
@@ChasingTheApex I already liked the car. But, your video led to my test driving it. Not once, but twice..lol And, then I knew I had found what I really wanted.
Right on! I'm super flattered! But more importantly you test drove it, which is something I truly believe in, drive it, and make the conclusion fo yourself. Kent, I'm so very grateful you took the comment on top of it all!
Absolutely, you nailed it precisely, for what it is, and what it's designed to do, it's rather Brilliant! But one has to take it for what it is! ~Jason
Haven't had the Pleasure, we just drive what we have the Opportunity to drive, perhaps someday. Thank you for that insight, also taking the time to watch and comment ~Jason
Buried in the Dodge online specs, it appears the suspension tuning on the Challenger is is more sporty than on the Charger (both SXT entry level). Too bad I prefer the rear doors. Thanks for convincing me the Mustang (or presumably Cameron too) aren’t more tossable than this behemoth.
I'm glad you enjoyed, its surprisingly agile in my opinion, definitely I was taken off guard! The Charger is a nice vehicle, I haven't had the Opportunity to test one so I wont speak to the driving dynamics. The mustang GT I think perhaps I needed a little more time to get to know, we often get these vehicles for hrs, so what I give is my initial reaction uncut. Thanks for watching! ~Jason
This still stands as one of my most active videos, and one of my first videos, and well before I started editing on my own. I haven't driven a 2022, but I do recall this being a fun car.
Dodge is knocking it out of the park. The Dodge Challenger is one of the most reliable high performance cars on the market today, far more reliable than a BMW, Mercedes and even more so than a Camero or a Mustang. The other aspect is that Dodge is smart to keep the ICONIC, and I mean ICONIC body style without F'ing it up too much. Sadly the Mustang has lost that classic iconic 1960s style and has become a sports car rather than a muscle car. And if you look at the Dodge Challenger since 2008, the body is the same and yet it still looks fresh. Dodge is yet again brilliant for only improving the tech, changing the taillights, hood and wheels on design. That's all they need to do. This is a proven design. Once they start muddling it, it will lose appeal and we don't want that. They are taking a page from Porsche 911's design, which is DON'T mess with it. Improve it YES, but don't F' with the design, thus why it has such a passionate following worldwide. This Challenger can have that. I like manual transmissions too, but when I got my Dodge Challenger last year, I got the 8-speed automatic. Flat out BAD ASS transmission. SUPER responsive. I'm happy I got it. I also have the paddle shifts, but most of the time I am just fine with it in auto since it is WICKED QUICK! So I know Dodge is going to to release a refreshed model for 2021 or 2022 depending on this COVID-19 problem, but hopefully the Body style remains untouched and they update the interior, tech, maybe use the 1972 taillight style, like the 2015-2020 is the 1971 Challenger style and the 2008 - 2014 is the 1970 Dodge Challenger taillight step-up. Honestly they don't need to change that look too much. No need. At any rate it is a near perfect car. 2018 Dodge Challenger Demon set the bar for fastest production drag car in the world, let's hope they continue to set that bar higher in 2021. One thing I would to see if Dodge can bring that 6 cylinder on HP of 305 to 350HP and have a great fuel mileage would be a dream. Hell get SRT involved and make it a HEMI 6. Why not? Porsche does it, Dodge can too.
Not sure when the 6 cylinder came to the Dodge Challenger. I know it wasn't in 2008, but maybe in 2009 to 2014, it used a 3.5 liter with only 250HP. For 2015 to now they improved it with the 3.6 305HP. Big improvement for a 4000 plus pound car. If they can get the 6 up to 350HP, the baseline 8 cylinder 5.7 I would love to see at 425HP, and the SCAT get that baby up to 550 to 600HP. HELLCAT let's go; 800HP to 1000HP. How sick would that be?! The ENGINEERS have a way of finding the possibilities. 12 years ago no one would have thought a 797HP HELLCAT REDEYE would be possible as a production release.
Truly, I know I myself focus on the driving experience, and for being as heavy as it is, it was surprisingly nimble. If the Opportunity to test one of her larger displacement siblings made itself available, I wouldn't say no,, truly the most unsuspecting over performing vehicle I've had the privilege to experience
I see many people criticizing the Dodge V6, but in my view Mopar is Mopar and V6 or V8 is up to each person's taste or need. If you live in big urban centers and like muscle cars, it's good to have a V6, and many girls also prefer the V6 to the V8. I'd have a V6 without any problems, for me American muscle is American muscle.
Honestly I truly think so, and for a guy that loves to drive and in a spirited fashion I'm still hugely impressed by this car. Out of the American Variants it's still one of my favorites
You should drive a GT with the performance suspension and 4-piston Brembo brakes. I just bought a second one to replace the one I had that got hit. What people don't realize is that compared to a 1970 Challenger 340, the current V6 Challengers like mine are quicker to 60, quicker and faster in the 1/4 mile, have a higher top speed, get double the mileage, stop far better, have all the modern comforts and will easily pull 1.15 g's in a corner where the old car is lucky to pull .8 g's.
That would be cool man, however I had a stroke last year, and I don't test cars anymore, but that's really cool input and if I ever get to the point where I can do this stuff again, I'll definitely see what I can come up with
The ergonomics of the Leather seat Package & Drive of a DodgeChallenger® Is Phenomenal. Actually , the Car exacts the feeling of it's Euro Rivals without the Price tag. But don't take my Word, just go drive one and see for oneself how Dodge® got this one Right.
Hey Jason, I’m a 15 year old looking to get my first car soon and am hooked on a 2015 sxt challenger. Do you think it’d be a good daily driver and is the room inside good for someone who is ~6’3”? Great vid by the way!! ☺️
Hi Chaffy thanks for the response, I would say the room is quite adequate for a young man your size. If it was me (this is my advice to all first time car buyers), i would advise you start with something that is a little less sport driving oriented, and focus on something a little more utilitarian just to ensure you have the knack of driving on public roads in other traffic (I tell first time drivers often their first accident is because of other drivers being careless, and they themselves have to learn to drive defensively) it takes time to develop some safe and adequate judgement of distance etc. You will also want to master maintenance, that takes time too, so you may want to consider experimenting on another vehicle if you're unfamiliar. If you're dead set on a more muscle car or sports driving oriented vehicle and your Parent's are in agreement I highly suggest a track day. I hope this answers your question! ~Jason
Chasing The Apex just saw your reply, thank you so much for explaining and I’ll look into my options. But otherwise thanks and keep up with the amazing video quality! - Wyatt
Wyatt, thanks so much for taking the time to watch us, seriously I am super grateful you guys take the time, and not only me, but everyone who has ever been involved find it most rewarding to do our best to bring you guys the best we can. ~Jason
Wow, that's a story indeed, please do tell! Thanks for that input, I thought perhaps in hindsight I hadn't given the 'Stang' a fair shake, but perhaps I wasn't too far off. This car still takes me off guard, it outperformed my expectations, Jason
@@ChasingTheApex My grandfather was GM of a Ford Dealership growing up. My father only ever drove Fords (and raced them). So, growing up a "car girl," the Mustang was always a no brainer for me. I got my first Ecoboost in early 2017, my second in mid-2019. I loved them both but, the comparisons are often unkind, especially when comparing "base" models. The SXT has way more tech, a bigger engine, and the cabin space and headroom is just unbelievable (especially when you consider that, width wise, they are nearly identical). I decided to test drive the Challenger because, frankly, my 14-year old son has sprouted to nearly 6' and doesn't fit in the back seat of either the Mustang, or my husband's Camaro. I expected it to drive like a boat. I expected it to be, as you mentioned in this video, unable to do much more than go straight and, even then, feel sluggish when I put my foot down because of the weight difference. What I found was, it was smooth, it handled corners like a dream (and has an amazing turn radius), and accelerated faster/cleaner than the Mustang (specifically the 2019 - the new transmission really slowed things down). I didn't expect to fall in love but, 2 hours later I was in the finance office.
Brilliantly stated! Thank you for this, its absolutely my favorite occurence when owners, buyers, former owners and enthusiasts give their direct feedback. It's a personal joy this channel brings me to directly connect with other enthusiasts. I'd love to capture that story on camera some day, it's my hope to see that evolution over time, to let the public voice be heard. I believe the value in your statement, background, and especially your anecdotal experience adds a value to those viewers, who are considering any of these vehicles. Thank you so much Jason
Why the sudden hatred for V6 engines??? People will lose their shit over a modded 140hp Honda 4cyl...but hate on a 305hp V6 Challenger? V6 is no joke. Naturally Aspirated, Super charged or turbo. They are fast machines worthy of admiration.
Actually, I liked it, I didn't hate on it at all! This has been my favorite Modern American I've reviewed, even though this review was a very long time ago.
@@ChasingTheApex That comment wasn't directed at you or you very good review. Just reviews on the V6 usually generate commenters hating on the V6. Makes zero sense to me why.
No worries love the dialogue! Generally the popular opinion in American car culture amongst an age group is "no replacement for displacement" which is fun in a straight line, however if anyone watches the channel other than the American cars, or are familiar with performance driving here, if it doesn't turn? It doesn't matter lol. I personally remember when 305 hp was a significant amount of HP. But this little girl (not so little), in my opinion tosses around significantly better than the hellcat variant which can be unwieldy on anything other than a straight road, or a track. Both have their places, but both should be judged or reviewed through a different lens. Me? I personally think? I'd take this over a hellcat all day, but that's me, however my current personal driving weapon is a 981 GT4. great dialogue, and you definitely aren't alone in your observations!
BTW, my GT4 is a Flat Six, I'd bet on a gp track shed be a significantly more formidable weapon than the high HP monsters, (okay betting isn't fair I already know that :p)
Jason, where are you from, I love your accent. I'm from NY and I bit the bullet and will be getting a Dodge Challenger and know that I need to put some $ into improvements.
Is that your everyday car? I’m thinking about getting a challenger as my daily driver but nervous to get RWD because of the weather sometimes. Any advice?
Its not, its just a vehicle I was reviewing, in the wet it was pretty solid for being RWD, but I'd be disinclined to advise from a daily driver perspective. In California I see them alot, as well as much of the rest of the US, but having not had to live with it, I'm afraid I'd be remiss if I advised from the perspective of a daily. I know I see them used frequently though
@@ChasingTheApex i live in fla. so weather is not much of a problem. yeah i drive it everyday back and forth to work. I really love the car. plan on a turbo at some point. but really rides nice.
@@ChasingTheApex it only seems to have that beautiful roar when I'm in manual and in 2nd and 3rd gear. So your saying it still has that roar in automatic? Maybe I just can't notice it lol thanks for your reply, I'm new to cars, don't mean to sound dumb haha
Brother lots of people talk specs that's not what we do here, we talk about driving. Youre not stupid, at all. Dont ever let anyone tell you that. These are twisty bit of road so it would have been higher RPM Range and lower gear, using the paddle shifters to keep it in the power band
@@ChasingTheApex thanks for the positive words man. What RPM should I be shifting into 2nd/3rd? I kind've just go off feeling but I don't wanna screw my transmission up either. Also, I will say that I notice Dodge has a system that prevents me from shifting into 1st gear if I'm going too fast etc so it's nice that they have that so I don't screw it up beyond my intelligence.
Honestly brother this was a few years ago, and I don't remember and indeed dumping to first is a bad idea. But I don't want to lie to you and say I recall the exact rpms of the Powerband brother
I'm a parent, I just want to caveat my statement with that title, as my opinion is very subjective. I think a newer driver would be more suited to get something more economy focused, maybe a hatch where they could even carry more. I hate to sound vague but without knowing someone personally I'd be hesitant to answer the question any other way.
I think there is a great deal of value in beginning with a beginner car, and learning its utilitarian value before taking the step into the enthusiast range if vehicles, understanding what it really means to own any car and mastering #driving as a skill pays long term benefits. When one can own the car they love, the lifetime and car for that particular vehicle is infinitely extended,. I completely agree with your statement. My first car was an old Ford truck and I adored it, but I also abused it, not out of intent, but out of neglect. Well said!
Definitely far better than I expected! Round here, we are grateful for being "not bad", we are definitely learning as we go, and we dont hide it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! ~Jason
as you know im not a fan of u.s cars but you know this and 85 ford boxy are my fav from there,i know id never have chance to drive one but god damn, its sexy asf
They are deceptively fast because I have a 2019 and got pulled over by state patrol for doing 107 in a 70. Wasn’t looking at the speedo. Felt like I was doing 65 but you can’t tell how fast your going.
We tape very stream of conciousness, and I'm very effusive so in anyone of our videos my reaction, is what is, and in this case I was very much taken off guard, I had actually walked into this video with the experience to dislike it greatly. But I was very taken back, and very wrong, it preformed rather well considering. Thank you for watching and commenting!

You should take the Challenger SXT or GT AWD on these roads when they’re wet. You won’t have to worry about sliding around the turns as much.
This honestly behaved far better than I imagined! If I get my hand on the AWD I definitely will!
I paid 22 k for my 2019 SXT brand new in November 2019. I agreed with everything you said and for that price what else can you say. I drove to Florida 7 hours straight with little road weariness FYI. It’s a great all around car. 29 mpg doing 78 all the way

Thanks brother! I agree it is still to this day one of the biggest surprises I've had in a review.

Which location is this where u are shooting this video very beautiful place
I own a Mercedes. Now, I want a “toy”. I’m strongly considering a 2022 sxt. I really like it.
This still stands as one of my most active videos, and one of my first videos, and well before I started editing on my own. I haven't driven a 2022, but I do recall this being a fun car.
Beautiful machine.
Hey man this is a well thought out comment! I appreciate you taking the time to put together such context!
~Jason
What is the color paint on that? It looks nice.
Honestly I have no idea, majority of the cars on the channel are test cars

@larryolsen-8998 definitely an attractive color!
Great video love the challengers. What soundtrack are you using on that video? What's the name of the group?
I see many people criticizing the Dodge V6, but in my view Mopar is Mopar and V6 or V8 is up to each person's taste or need. If you live in big urban centers and like muscle cars, it's good to have a V6, and many girls also prefer the V6 to the V8. I'd have a V6 without any problems, for me American muscle is American muscle.
Huge bang for the buck.
That would be cool man, however I had a stroke last year, and I don't test cars anymore, but that's really cool input and if I ever get to the point where I can do this stuff again, I'll definitely see what I can come up with
@@ChasingTheApex Best of luck on your recovery!

Wow, that's a story indeed, please do tell! Thanks for that input, I thought perhaps in hindsight I hadn't given the 'Stang' a fair shake, but perhaps I wasn't too far off. This car still takes me off guard, it outperformed my expectations,
Jason
Thank you so much

Never seen anyone fill an entire 15 minute video stating "Wow, driving a mans car aint so bad!".
Hahaha one of my earlier videos, and honestly I was really taken back.

Would you recommend this car for a new driver?
