    I salute you for your work for actually dismantling the car to the shell, I thought you could get around it without taking off the whole front smh.
    Again appreciate this video for the clarity on how to go about doing it for self💯

    Thanks a million for loading this video, I'm almost certain the people who designed this vehicle are sadists. What time scale are we talking about in removing everything.

      It looks worse than it is. For a total beginner, I would say 4 hours start to finishe. For an experienced mechanic, 2 hours.

    JC316 - Thanks so much for taking the time to record this video and explain everything step by step in such good detail. This video gave me the confidence I needed to tackle my own Mazda 6, and I successfully replaced the radiator, radiator fans, three coolant hoses, water pump, belt and belt tensioner earlier this week. Keep up the great work!

    Thanks for the video. I just did it to my girlfriends 2006 4cyl in the 90 degrees New Orleans heat. So far I don't think anything is leaking and only a couple extra parts left over. Shhh, don't tell her.
    When I went to test drive it I needed to move my car out the driveway and I found my battery to be dead. I have a 2005 Corolla and EVERYTHING seems to be easier on it. I did the fans a couple of years ago and it took no time. In fact, a few weeks later I had to change the starter so I removed the fans to make room. Unfortunately, I nicked the radiator with the starter and it leaked. Oh well, in one month I changed a fan, radiator, and starter. If it were her Mazda I'd tell her to buy another car.
    Now it's time to pass out.

    Great video. Loved the commentary. Wish we could have seen the actual work. You do a great job though. I forgot all the connectors and where they plug in and this video helped. You are awesome keep up the good work. I like the observation of how much access you get when the radiator and fans off. It definitely would be a good time to do any major things that are up for maintenance.

    Man I started working as a mechanic about 2 years ago. long story short My gf radiator stated to leak. one thing i noticed was that you took all the hoses off towards the end. let me tell you wish I would have done that. Man trying to get all those lower hose was a pain! would have been way easier towards the end.Nice vid!!!

    The radiator is mounted that way for ease of manufacturing in the factory as the radiator is mounted to the engine cradle and everything is hooked up together to save time

  • @jb1586
    @jb1586 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Thanks for the video , it was helpful. The only thing I could pass on is you don't have to remove the fans. Take out the top two bolts for the fans and the radiator drops right out from the fans.

    Hi Jc, I'm sorry you went through all this trouble man. but you didn't have too. I have a 2006 mazda 6 and I had to replace mine. People think you have to take the whole front off to get to the radiator. And many mechanics say "you do" so that they charge you with more labor. I have 2 uncles who work for mazda man. And you can just take off a couple bolts and plugs and slide it out without taking any of the front bumper out. Check out the forums :).

    • @316Autos
      @316Autos  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Anthony Awada I hate to say that you can't, because I have never done it on an 06 or on a 4 cylinder, but I know on the 03 with a 6 cylinder it can't be done.. Bottom line, even if you could get it disconnected from the condenser, which you can't, you still wouldn't have enough room to get it past the valve covers. On top of that, why would you want to? It's not hard to get the clip off.

    • @AnthonyAwada
      @AnthonyAwada 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JC316 yes it could be different man.
      This is advice I always tell people who are buying cars. (mazda or not a mazda)
      Never buy the first year they roll out with the car. mazda 6 were the sucessors of the protege. And the first year they came out with them is 2003.
      Mazda sure must have made some improvements ever since. which is signs of a good company.

      I'm over here fuming mad! Seeing comments talk about 2.5 hours to finish. I'm currently paying off a $900 bill, including 6 hours of labor charges! 🤬 I'm betting this mechanic didn't look up how to fix my Mazda.

    • @panthers559
      @panthers559 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NativeVirgo so a little insight, when you work at a shop , at least one like i have , we go off what our data on the computer gives us if it calls for 6 hrs of labor then thats what we go off , if we get done in 2.5 hrs that 6 hrs still has to be accounted for one of the reasons u don't take it to a shop i guess , i work as a mobile mechanic now but i would still charge a decent amount for this job , around $750 with parts included, its still a inconvenience to have to take apart the bumper and all that to get to the radiator as opposed to a simple radiator removal, also stuff that factors into the price is tools , experience, going mobile, getting rid of the coolant etc ..

    I have to say that's the dumbest design they did on the Mazda 6. Just as bad as the late '90's Ford Taurus. I'm doing one of these for a friend of mine and your video was helpful, thanks! His upper tank had a 2" crack on the top and was the original. I'll be replacing that 3 way cooling connector that's commonly known as failure prone too with a Dorman part.

    JC316 Thanks for showing how to remove the radiator . I have a 2005 and have to do it. Couple of questions,,, On the top of the support there are 2 phillips screws that hold the piece that has the Mazda symbol . Mine tunes a little and then stops cant seem to get them loose and 2 the transmission lines does all the fluid come out ? Hope I am not biting off more then I can chew. But thx for the video just wish you had someone filming for you so I can see how things are taken off..

    • @316Autos
      @316Autos  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The screw is probably stripped. Get a flat blade under it and pry it up while unscrewing it, should come out. No, just a little bit of fluid will drain out, unless you start the car, then the transmission will pump it all out.

    I don't know what these manufacturers are thinking. Volvo is the same way but not even quite as bad. Like it or not, your radiator is not invincible. They have a lifespan and will eventually need changed unless you smash your car to bits before its life is over. I want to get that engineer and shove his head down behind that bumper and maybe show him how easy a radiator can and should be. How ridiculous.

  • @royslapped4463

    How much coolant did you have to put back in the car? I drained as much coolant as I could because I needed to do a flush anyway and I've put in almost 2 gallons and I'm still burping the car. I don't see a leak and 2 gallons seems like a bit much.

    Hahaha my gf sold her Mazda 6 to her daughter. I begged her not to cause I knew I’d be working on it till the day I die. I made my gf get rid of it after I found out how hard the alternator was to replace. Well... low and behold, now it’s radiator time. 🤣 Lol these cars are a joke.

      @316Autos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, them and the focus both suck for alternators. I remember having to disconnect the motor mounts and slide the entire engine forward, in the parking lot of an autozone, to get the alternator out of an 03 Focus wagon

    I think If the radiator is down, u gotta have to get rid of the entire car!! Its one hell of a job to replace and more costly than the face value of the car!!

      I've heard that you can remove the radiator in the normal way on the 4cyl models, but I've never done it, so I would check to see if you have access from the engine bay.

    I could NOT agree with you more on the design of this car 🤦🏽

  • @louiealouie
    @louiealouie 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It almost seems like Mazda designed it with the intention of making the radiator the hardest thing to reach..

    • @316Autos
      @316Autos  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Looks way harder than it is. I've tackled much more difficult radiators.

      JC316 I just did my 2003 Mazda b2300 radiator.. One of the easiest jobs ever. The design is fix friendly not like the Mazda in this video

      Most trucks are easy. Try a Ford Focus or an 05 ish Pontiac Sunfire though, and the mazda is easy.
