_It's all about makin' money & gettin' the bit**es bro!_ That's ALL it is, ALL it's ever about (or at least for the stuff that become pop culture canon - feel kinda bad for how easily manipulated young people are), overvaluation of material-based identity (thanks, capitalism!)
Seriously! TH-cam did good throwing this down on my mix playlist without my knowing, a pleasant new discovery for me; never knew these cats or this jam before!
I'm just 19 and always on search for some true hip hop, ya know, like hip hop you listen to and you feel the message, the funk, you just feelin' it. Nowerdays hiphop just crappy shit. You ain't feel nothing than eventually swinging ya ass for 2 minutes and asking yourself, for real, what was this song about. This one is timeless epic stuff, could listen to it again and again, never gets old, never looses the groove.
I have been listening to this song on repeat this week for just been feeling it so much, turns out Gift of Gab passed away on the 18th. RIP to a legend I will be playing your music forever. Already listened to it almost every day.
RIP Gift Of Gab! One of my all time favourite rappers. My dad showed me Blackalicious when I was little and I was hooked ever since. Blazing Arrow is one of the best rap albums ever. Thank you for rapping about humility and some of the more important stuff in life. I won't ever stop listening to you and I know for sure my dad won't.
This guy is a HUGE breath of fresh air. It's good to know there's still some talented rappers who remember the fact that selling out is actually not a good thing.
brilliant song. blackalicious is a fucken legend, he represents the essence of an artistic, creative and inspired approach to hip hop. also, if compared to J5, i like the way he doesn't have to sound too old school to achieve this either. you can see he'd appreciate the musical conventions of gangsta rap and the use it has. genius
Well I was cruising through Blackalicious songs and stumbled upon this one. Memories to the max, I use to blast this song on Pandora grinding on MapleStory lmao.... Sad days.
@WicketL Its a video series made by Rob and Roamin from the website Urealms . com where they play various different video games together and this song was used for their introduction of Saints Row 2 2Player series.
This is hip hop folks. The world needs more of this shit. Every up & comer in the hip hop world should HAVE to listen to this song 1 last time before signing a contract Filter out the hip hop artists from those who want to cater to the black hole that is mainstream hip pop. One of my favorites, but never realized there was a video for it. Well done. This is what it's all about folks. If you like this. Check out 'Just Because'. 2 songs that both explain word for word what hip hop is all about.
this is the first time i've heard this track, i got that feeling that i think everyone gets when ya hear something you know you should of been already listening to, kinda like finding a lost friend you didn't know existed...maybe im just blazed haha
I think the rumor is that this song is about kanye west but idk cant confirm. rip gab been a fan for 20 years and saw ya live. u killed it. live forever in the music.
OMG! I have never heard of this dude till today and dam!! This is str8 real hip hop man, fucken gold, he got my respect man, he duz it 4 the luv of it! "Stay true to youself and stay humble"! Very awesome!
Love these guys. Bought a book a few weeks back called HOW TO RAP by Paul Edwards. Gift of Gab is featured in the book and he comes up with some great advice on rapping. In the part on rhythm he says "I'm basically trying to be like another instrument on the track. I want to ride it just like the bass line is riding it, only with words. I wanna ride it just like the guitar or the violin or whatever instrument, just riding it".
they're really good huh?! I had never heard of them and then i went to this things called San Diego Street Scene, and we went to see them just cause of their name. They a super sick live
Pandora finally showed me these guys. I've heard of them and thought of checking them out, but I was a little uncertain based on the name. Needless to say I've been pleasantly surprised.
You cannot possibly say this is shit unless you are completely closed minded and prejudge it as just some kind of rap, and neglect to listen to the lyrics. It's amazing.
RIP Gift of Gab, one of the all time greats.
What?!?….when did he pass?!
"Be true to yourself and stay humble." Wise words from a man who was always ahead of his time in every era. RIP Timothy.
"If your blessed with a talent, utilize it to the fullest, stay true to yourself, and stay humble"
Humility barely exists anymore, no respect.
Amen home boy

There is will to love observable, but awaken not love before it pleases to herself. 🍷🎃
I always felt like this song could have been a radio hit. Has a certain mass appeal.
itch13 oh the irony
I thought it was. At least, that's how I remember it. Granted I was on a lot of drugs back then.
Underground hit. We've bumped this for over 20 years
Seriously! TH-cam did good throwing this down on my mix playlist without my knowing, a pleasant new discovery for me; never knew these cats or this jam before!
