Originally I viewed Gauss as the ‘go fast’ frame, but once I discovered that a cold and heat cast of Thermal Sunder at maxed Redline completely strips enemy armor in an instant, I fell in love with Gauss, as enemy armor values have always been a thorn in my side.
I run a similar build with 207% dur, 100% effic, 175% range, 115% str, sacrifice a bit of efficiency and range for rolling guard and natural talent. Helps with survivability in Steel Path. Having 62s before resetting his 2 and 4 is nice. Good vid.

I always passed up on this frame because I thought he looked off in his thumbnail. Never saw players using him either. Then I saw one guide and got curious, he's now my top 3 frame with Wisp and Vauban
Gauss is one of those frames that never quite gelled for me, but mostly because I couldn't readily see the synergies of his abilities. This helped a lot, so thank you! One thing that I did that wasn't available when you originally put this up was I made room for Archon Vitality. It adds Health, to be sure. But its reason for being is that any ability that applies a Heat status effect will have that effect applied TWICE (no extra cost!) So each time you use Thermal Sunder, you're effectively doubling the heat damage (not sure if that has an impact on armor stripping or not, but would be cool to find out.) Now I'm going to have to play around with him a bit and see what I can come up with. Thanks again, best tips video on this frame I've found so far! 👍🏼

Great Video BTW ! If you prime enemies then use Thermal Sunder... You get brilliant damage numbers. Prime enemies with Heat then use Thermal Sunder Cold BOOM. Prime with Heat then use Heat and you inherit the Heat procs and BOOM ! Other synergies included.
You don't actually need to prime the enemies. If you want a formula for the damage thermal sunder deals by itself when you use multiple heat casts and 1 cold cast while in redline it's essentially this: (1500 x (2^total heat casts) x 8 x duration + 750) x strength With base stats and 18 casts of heat with 1 cold cast, you can reach 3.14 billion damage (haha). Doesn't work on demolishes though. Might work on demolishes with a primer but I don't have a good one.
@@bloopletank2491 It does work against demolishers if you prime them. So a Heat weapon + Bane/Expel mod then themal sunder. You are basically inheriting the heat procs and carrying all that over to Thermal Sunder. Thermal Sunder basically works like Expedite Suffering...

Like 95% people completely toss its usability by running narrow minded with no range mods, see it as a low to mid level trash mob clearer, or limit its uses as an armor strip. Whenever I get a new frame I always read the wiki page on their abilities, and as someone who's favorite academic subject is mathematics, I tend to notice things like how thermal sunder even without a primer is kind of busted. I don't just like to look at how the damage of abilities multiplies, but actually compare the numbers to enemy health, armor, shields, and innate damage reduction that as levels rise. Gauss's thermal sunder at higher levels isn't even energy hungry, because the number of times you cast it increases with enemy level at a logarithmic rate (the flat increase per unit diminishes the more units you have, in this case the unit is levels, and the number of casts required increases at a slower and slower rate), but the quantity of energy you gain from kinetic plating is perfectly linear to the damage enemies deal, which exponentially increase with level. So you really can't say that it's too energy hungry for high end play. Low key on gauss, speed is overrated (still very strong though), range is peak.
Taking hits or moving slow before it reaches 100% causes it to charge slower. Keep the battery gauge full to charge to 100% faster. It can be a pain in missions where any setup time causes issues. Fortunately, he’s a good weapons platform to make up for downtime, which contributes to popularity.

Gauss is one of the easier to get on that list. Khora isn’t too bad if you can get a decent nuke build started or get carried. Takes a lot of patience though.
really fantastic video explaining my favorite speedy boi. personally i run duration max with some range, using archon vitality for the extra heat damage. energize and accel in arcanes because i run the bramma with it(sometimes ogris as well) as his 4 works fantastic with weapons with slower fire rate(ie, throw on crit delay and go brrrr). i dont go above or below 100% str or eff because to me they're not needed. But that's just me and my personal preference. I think you did amazing at this guide!
@@LucidWolf yeah, the biggest challenge to me is to get the mods and arcanes But I can do something to begin and further improve and get stuff to make "god mode gauss"
I struggle with energy as my arcane energize is just rank 1 and have usually none to spare on spamming 3 so I made a build using just 1 forma with 306% duration and 109% range and honestly, it's super fun and feels better in most missions thanks to the massive buffs to the 4. Instead of compensating for Overextended you compensate for Narrow minded with Augur Reach and Stretch to get range into usable state for your 3 as that freezing is really nice in some missions and especially steel path. You can also abandon all your cc capabilities by taking out the two range mods to make room for something else. Your main damage output will be your weapons anyway and cc is pointless in low level missions so why not skip the freezing part and one-shot them with your kuva zarr, right? This leaves you with a lot of energy left to use your 1 basically indefinitely which is ideal for speedruns. I'd also replace the Streamline with Preparation as it fits better for speedrunning and also Coaction Drift with Kavat's Grace just for quality of life improvement. If you don't have Primed Animal Instinct on your companion you can take enemy range mod instead.
I had a more weapon focused build that even turns the Zarr into a bottomless clip machine gun, but it was made after I did the video, so it wasn't included D: But yeah, for people that struggle with energy its far better to go for a weapon approach.
That’s unfortunate! Rhino is used in a ton of content. It really depends your playstyle. If you elaborate I can try and recommend something. Rhino would be considered a support tank, for clarification. Excalibur, a melee damage role.

@@arzanpatel yeah he kinda is. Not mobility though, but his kill rate. He’s a good buff and takes hits. For blowing through star chart maybe get a Saryn prime with the plat you mentioned. She can clear stuff well and isn’t too hard to setup. Weapons make a huge difference too. You’ll start unlocking good stuff at mastery rank 8. Star chart is very important to unlocking end game stuff. Wish I could help more but I’m exhausted lol.
Unfortunately this is not a great beginner guide. However, once you get the basic concepts of the game down, learning him will be easier by following the beginning of the guide. Bear in mind that all frames in this game are fast, but his design theme is speed. I outrun most Gauss players in mission even when I am not Gauss.
That's because it is two separate mechanics that work with or against each other. The percent number is the strength of the redline ability, and the gauge itself is the battery. Battery being full increases redline strength.
There are two different bars I describe in the video. You have the physical battery and the redline %. Redline needs to say 100% to not drain. It works for me still even after the update. I'm not sure what else to tell you.
At 11:32 I explain my choice of auras and alternatives. I'm sure other auras have been added since I made this build but corrosive projection at the time had no use on a frame that can already strip armor completely. Energy siphon was the other pick but my sustain is OK with Arcane Energize. Sprint mods could be OK since his 1 is affected by it but aside from that I prefer radar in most situations since I use the map more than most people.
To clarify: -Simaris is an AI of sorts, called a Cephalon, like Ordis (found in your orbiter). He is found in a Relay. -Your orbiter is the place you go between missions. -A Relay is a neutral location found in orbit around many planets that allows you to talk to various people, including Simaris. -The Codex is an encyclopedia of sorts, which stores information on various topics, as well acting as a quest interface. When in your Orbiter, go up the ramp and directly to the left is a table, this is the Codex. Fortunately I was around to give extra info, but in the future you’ll probably have better luck searching google or the wiki for most of your info if you’re new.
There are two versions of it. It’s called the Simulacrum. You can buy it from Simaris in a relay to test out your gear on enemies. The version I have came from an event. It’s basically just a different look for the room.

This is a very good video for a new player trying to find his frame, absolutely amazing.
I like that when you use cold you get more of your redline meter because cold air is just the lack of heat energy or kinetic energy.

Im pretty sure all you need to do is heat cast his 3, then cold cast for 100% armour strip then heat again for damage.

Weird that the battery redline is at 80% but when you then activate redline the redline is around 15% (see 7:54)

Just use the regular counterparts. Just bear in mind they are always weaker, but it'll be fine. Just work towards them as you go.

How do you get redline up so quickly it goes slow for me even if i sprint or machrush
Back when I was playing it usually took about half the max duration of the ability to get it to 100%

Worst guass build u need adaptation or rolling guard because when ur in HIGH LEVEL CONTENT his 2 needs 5-10 sec to actually be decent.
Not if you know how to freeze everything properly. I've never struggled in SP with this.
