    Truly awesome collection. The best part is it’s a working collection, not only can you see the use on the grills but I mean come on....you’ve got footage for every one of those. I personally always appreciate all the reviews that come from your channel on these different products. Thanks for sharing 👍

    Nice collection. Like many here commenting, I have several smokers and grills. I like to keep it simple and my Weber 22" is my go to unit. The addition of the vortex ring , rotisserie & grill grates allow versatility on my weber. The Char-Broil Kettleman is another favorite of mine as it's custom grate allows versatile cooking from 350 to over 700 degrees, all with about half the charcoal as the Weber.

    Currently I own 1 gas grill, a 22 inch Weber kettle, an 18.5 WSM, a Traeger pellet smoker and an Ugly Drum Smoker. I’ll have to show this video to my wife as it should buy me a bit of quiet time lol lol. Actually she’s pretty good, I just love my outdoor cooking. Great to see all your equipment. Hi Justin. I have been agonising over a summit vs KJ big Joe 3.
    I was all set for the KJ due to the rotisserie, but I found out there is an aftermarket rotisserie for the summit. So I am back to indecision. For info on my current setup I have already a smokefire Ex6, performer charcoal, 47cm WSM, go anywhere, 3 burner gas. I am looking for this to replace the gas and kettle to free up some patio space.
    Thanks for the reply and keep up the videos. I love them all!

    ****6/9/2018 update****
    Spoke too soon. WiFi failed on me again this time when cooking for friends which unfortunately has happened quite a few times now. After months of working on this and multiple swap outs of computers (and hearing from others privately who have had gone through similar experiences), and spending $500 to update my home WiFi, I no longer have faith that this is ever going to be resolved until MAK makes some changes on their end. I want to also say this is NOT a customer service issue as the guys I deal with could not be better. I don't think they have been given the tools to be successful (ie, the wifi equipment used in the MAK needs an overhaul) and of course, that's me speculating because they are too professional to even hint at it. I still like the cooker but don’t recommend the WiFi because I just can't can’t trust it...it's as simple as that. If MAK upgrades or finds another answer I’ll take another look but for now, I do not recommend the wifi accessory package.
    ***6/8/2018 (later in the day) Update*** OK, so I ran the cooker for 9.5 hours and didn't have a flameout or a wifi disconnect. The only issue I'm having is one page on the Makmobile website isn't loading up. I can do everything on the website except use the programs page which throws up an error saying there is a connection issue. However, considering the fact that all the other tabs work, I'm going to assume that is a problem on their end and nothing wrong with my cooker. I was able to change temps and shut down the MAK both from my computer and my phone. It's probably too soon to say the problem if definitely fixed, but if you are reading this without further updates, that means I have not had any issues with disconnections. If I do have an issue, I'll report back.
    ***6/8/2018 Update*** Ran a quick test last week before we went out of town and the new computer held temps for 2 hours. Today I'm editing all day so I thought I'd run a longer test. I kicked it off around 30 minutes ago and I'm just going to let it run for 250 degrees most of the day. One thing I should say is in the past I've had issues with flameouts which MAK attributed to the Traeger pellets I was using. I switched to a different brand but I'm out of the new ones and I have a ton of leftover Traeger's so I'm using them for this test. There is a chance this test may get cut short by that, but I can bring myself to buy new pellets just to run a test while those are sitting here. Hopefully there won't be an issue. I'll update this evening.
    ***6/1/2018 Update*** I got the new computer installed. I'll be testing out the wifi over the next few weeks. I'll report back when I know something.
    ***Update*** ATTN MAK OWNERS: Based on some feedback I've gotten privately, I want to reframe this question a little. Has anyone with a MAK been able to get the wifi to actually work consistently? If so how often do you use it and do you find it completely reliable? Feel free to reply to this comment. I may have some questions for you.
    *****Original post*******
    This is where I'll be updating the status of the wifi on the MAK Grill 2 Star General. I know some people probably have had no issues and that's great, but mine has been troublesome and I feel like it's important to be transparent with you guys...especially since I was so excited about it in a previous video.
    As of right now, the new computer is sitting here in a box. I'm hoping to have it up and running over this holiday weekend and be able to test it over the next couple of weeks. Thanks!

      Baby Back Maniac My Mak Grills Mobile has worked consistently so far. I have never had any issues yet. I think it is important to have a strong consistent Wifi signal by the grill

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad to hear it. I don't think strong strong consistent connection was The issue. We're pretty much maxed out. I'm getting my Wi-Fi at my neighbors house across the street and seriously nothing ever loses signal except the MAK.
      What kind of router are you using and how far is it from the cooker? How many walls between it? Also who is your service with? If you don't mind me asking

    • @JoshRivner
      @JoshRivner 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Baby Back Maniac I have a google WiFi mesh network. With the mesh network I never had an issue. I’d recommend trying a mesh network. Spectrum is my provider.

    • @JoshRivner
      @JoshRivner 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Though I don’t think you should have to get such a network to get the grill to work.

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I have that now. I started out with a Airport Extreme behind one wall and across the room, then added an extender right by the window...then I paid 500 bucks to create a 3 node mesh network. Still the only thing that loses signal is the MAK. Hopefully this new pellet boss will fix the issue.

    New to the channel trying to catch up on older videos, but I agree with you on your comments about the Smokey Joe. I have the silver version with the vent on the bottom of the bowl so the air flow is better than the Gold version. A friend of mine who has the Gold always complains about the air flow/temp control issues. I got lucky and got my Silver for free someone dumped it at a tailgate in good condition but if I had to buy one would definitely get the Jumbo Joe.

    • @BabyBackManiac

      Yeah it’s a great little cooker. I like free ones too though. ;-)

  • @stevenrowell156
    @stevenrowell156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Totally agree with you that the small Smokey Joe has air flow issues. It is my feeling the vent holes underneath the kettle does not let in enough air. I recently watched a grill mod video were they used a titanium step drill bit to create air vents in a steel drum. I would like to try that solution by drilling out a few extra vent holes in my Smokey Joe to see if that solves the issue.

    Awesome collection of grills! I got my first charcoal grill this year. It is the limited edition red kettle and it has been awesome! I got the Slow N Sear for it and that made it even more awesome! Now I feel like I need to expand my collection by adding a WSM since I have been doing more smoking than searing.

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a fantastic and versatile cooker. They only real downside to it is it can catch water and mold pretty easily. I realize that sounds bag but every cooker has drawbacks and that's really minor in comparison to what you get for the $. Other than that, it's great.

    Hey man. New to the channel. Sad about the dude selling you his grandpa’s Weber. I recently fell into the WSM rabbit hole after buying my grandparents place and digging my grandpa’s old WSM out of the barn. I pressure washed it. Ordered replacement grates and found a metal mixing bowl that works as a water pan. It cooks amazing. It’s the 18.5 so now I just want the 22 but I’ll never get rid of this thing.

      It's funny how often I get asked this question. There is not big secret. We have a set of cheap wash clothes that I use just for grilling. I take one or 2 out with me every time I cook. I use them for everything. wiping down messes, cleaning off my thongs, hot pads, etc. At the end of the cook, I wipe things down and sometimes I get them wet and when the cooker is hot it create steam that cleans of pretty much anything. After that, the rag goes in the washing machine and gets run with whatever the next load is.

    as far as temp probes/monitoring goes i'd recommend the thermoworks smoke. it uses radio connectivity, so wifi is never an issue,though it is an option. it also has multiple probes that can be individually set to monitor different temps.

    Only 16?!? Lol! 😂 Can you help me out here? I’m looking for a grill that can be used indoors in an apartment. Obviously the amount of smoke is a top concern. I do have space near a window for it. It can be on a stand or table top. My main usage would be to grill meats and especially steaks. One of the most important results I’m looking for would be a good smoky flavour. One of the key features I’m looking for is ease of cleaning and not messy. What would you recommend me?

    Your probably the guy that help me decide on my next grill. My employer is moving me from Texas to Pennsylvania for a couple of years. The movers broke my Kamado Big Joe. Insurance will buy me a replacement. I like Komados because I can do both high and low cooks. Right now the Summit is in first place but I want to consider a stick burner and pellet as well but how to they do cooking steaks and pizza?

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So there's a lot in this comment. First off, don't just brush over the movers thing. You would be amazed How many times I hear about movers (or just moving them) breaking kamado grills. It's probably the number one fate of ceramics yet it never occurs to people that being huge and fragile is a design flaw. (tipping, hail storms, accidents, and flying baseballs are NOT covered under lifetime warrantys either). When I say the Summit is my favorite (and often I'll add you have to have a few ceramic cookers before you understand) this is the type of thing I'm referring to. Other things I see alot are dropped plate setters and or heat deflectors placed on plastic side tables and melting them. Hinges failing due to the weight, (similarly) carts tipping or bending (not as big a problem as it was about 5 years ago.) but these are all things that happen because a 250 pound fragile grill is a con and not a pro. They are reasons I like the Summit in the table configuration (The table has a place for things like a hot head deflector). Another thing most ceramic owners just sorta deal with is ash removal being messy and they got to great lengths to stack and lower grates. The Summit makes it all easy.
      The problem is the Summit feels cheap when you lift the lid because it's made of double walled metal instead of ceramic and it doesnt look as sexy.
      Sorry you got me on my one my rants. lol. Truth be told I have several ceramic grills and I really enjoy cooking on them but there are reasons I prefer the summit even though I do think it should cost about half of what it does. (I also think ceramics should cost about half of what they costs. They are made out of cheap porcelain, not gold). lol. but since everything is overpriced, I prefer the Summit to the ceramics if I could only have one.
      pellet grills make good pizza but not high heat (similarly they don't do steaks well generally speaking compared to charcoal). Stick burners are the greatest thing ever but their sweet spot is smoking bbq.

    • @carbonunit57
      @carbonunit57 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BabyBackManiac this is my second Kamado Joe. The first one also broke because the springs were not adjusted right from the factory and the lid came down hard and broke it. Might still consider a stick burner. 90% of what I cook is low and slow but I do like a steak now and then. The Summit appears to be the best option for me.

    • @carbonunit57
      @carbonunit57 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BabyBackManiac , another option maybe I should consider is to buy a stick burner and a simple Weber grill just to do steaks. Can I use lump in a stick burner?

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can but if you stick burner has any size It will burn a lot of lump. I think the stick burner/kettle combination is ideal.

    Just wondering,how often do you add wood while smoking to grills like the barrel smoker and a kettle/ceramic cooker. I ask because with they don't have access doors like the wsm or a offset. I know they have hinged grates but if you don't have one of those,can't imagine it's easy unless the grills just don't require adding wood

    Awesome video of all your grills. I like watching your videos along with T-ROY Cooks and a few other BBQ TH-camrs. I do have a question for you. I have a really cheap grill and I am wanting to step it up. I just purchased 2 months ago a Barrelhouse Cooker and I absolutely love it. I smoked my Thanksgiving Day turkey on it and it was damn good. I've done some baby back ribs on it and they were amazing. But I am wanting to get a proper grill as well. I have been looking into Kamados for about 6 months now and I am ready to make a purchase. Throughout my search I came across Pellet grills which I had never seen before and am now torn between if I should get a Kamado or a Pellet Grill. When it comes to Pellet Grills I have narrowed my choices down to The Pit Boss Austin XL and The Rec Tec RT-700 Bull. Both offer a good amount of real estate space for cooking but there is a huge price difference between the two. The Pit Boss Austin XL is currently less than $500 at Walmart and the Rec Tec is around $1200. The Kamados that I have been looking at are the Caliber Pro Thermashell, the Blaze Aluminum, the Grilla Grills Kong, the Kamado Joe Big Joe, and the Vision Grills Signature Grande.....yeah, I know those are a lot of Kamados. I want a good amount of cooking space but the steel and aluminum in the Caliber Pro and Blaze look very interesting. They would not crack like the Ceramic grills but then again the Ceramic grills are tried and true. What is your recommendation between Kamado or Pellet? Which Pellet grill would you choose from the 2 that I have mentioned and which Kamado would you choose from the 5 that I have mentioned? Thanks for your help.

    • @BabyBackManiac
      @BabyBackManiac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow. Well if you could only have a pellet or a kamado, I would probably get the kamado so you can sear unless, of course, you are only going to smoke and you need the space. Other than that, the Pit Barrel Cooker kinda has the "set and forget" smoking covered and will give you less maintenance issues.
      The blaze has always looked interesting to me. My main concern is every picture I see of one that is used has gunk running down the side of the shell which makes me wonder about the design. If that's not an issue, that would be a compelling choice since it will last forever. Honestly my favorite kamado I've ever owned is the Weber Summit Charcoal grill. It's metal, insulated the right amount and has held up well. It's expensive though for what it is.
