  • The newest Lupin series is out and covers a brand new era of the franchise, but is that a good thing or a bad thing?

    For what this series is, what it had to offer and done with the characters and setting, Zero is easily one of the best Lupin series we ever have! I was just smiling all the way through with each episode, spotting as many references/easter eggs to past Lupin Media and just bopping to the OST especially to some remakes of classic Part 1 music.
    There is one thing that I would say about Zero is this, I wish we have more episodes as I feel like it could had strengthen the show even more like giving characters such as Lupin I and Lupin II more screentime and add more a bit depth to the main story arc with Lupin, Jigen & Yoko. Other than that, Lupin Zero is such a great series!

      As much as I would love more episodes from the series. (provided they're done this well) I do think it's better they kept it short, sweet and to the point because it's better to leave em wanting more than to overstay your welcome. As well for an experiment like this it's best to keep it simple because there can always be more in the future like I mentioned.

      it's pointless to introduce Zenigata before he's a famous thief
      they can't introduce Goemon because that was covered in Part I
      they can't introduce Fujiko because that was the point of The woman named Fujiko Mine

    Still one of my favorite manga adaptions that made it into the anime canon!! The whole entire series was inspired mind and storyline where Lupin took a break from his usual adventures and recounted his childhood to the audience. The main change is with the addition of Jigen since Lupin mentioned in passing that they were friends since they were kids. It was cool that the anime added that little fact in.

    I was skeptical. Then it came out and I loved it.
    When it was announced after Part 6's dissapointment I lost faith in TMS, thinking they'd just milk the franchise with any ideas they could throw at the wall. The Cats Eye trailer reinforced this thought.
    The finished product felt like a loving and natural introduction to Lupin and Jigen and it was just wicked fun. It had plot when it mattered and I was invested in each episode. Animation is a huge step up from Part 6, the Part 1 remixes are all strong. If they can match this quality I'd love to see more Zero content.

    for me the story they were trying to tell was too long for just 6 episodes, my personal opinion lupin has been retconned so many times we're not even sure if the lupin we know now is reaallly the real lupin because red v. green hinted that lupin got sick of being a thief and let some one else assume his idenetity, its interesting but they really should've added more episodes.

    • @CJTMN

      idk i feel they conveyed the story they wanted to tell pretty well in the short time and I don't really know what else they could've expanded upon to make it more satisfying and not potentially bloat it unnecessarily.

    I think 0 is the perfect prequel to part 1. It explains jigens petty jealousy over fujiko very well, and makes lupin and jigens friendship that much more special. The best kind of prequel makes the main series even more fun to watch. 10/10

      @@CJTMN I mean apart from it being on a few websites (it's hard to find stuff on lupin the third anywhere) I read one of Maurice LeBlanc's books (a readaptation made in 2007) where in the introduction it mentions how Leblanc not only inspired many novelists at the time (early 1900s) but also inspired the anime lupin the third.
      The exact quote from the book is "There is a Japanese anime series called "Lupin III," starring a decidedly illegitimate grandson of the man you will meet in this volume." The book is just called 'Arsène Lupin, Gentleman-Thief' printed in 2007.
      It's actually really interesting how Maurice Leblanc had an impact on crime novels at the time.

    In regards to Al, in one of the international dubs it was confirmed to be Albert

    • @CJTMN
      @CJTMN  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well lupin's name has been different in several international dubs so it's far from a reputable source.

    • @teleblue
      @teleblue ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJTMN Yes but that was due to copyright issues. Plus it'd be odd to specify him as Albert if the dubbing studio wasn't told it was Albert.

    • @CJTMN
      @CJTMN  ปีที่แล้ว

      @teleblue not really that odd when dubbing studios usually have little oversight past initial contracts and general agreements on stuff. Plus it seems odd that the creators would press for them to specify that when they didn't bother specifying it themselves. That's why in the history of dubbing it hasn't been uncommon for studios to change dialogue in order to match lip flaps as well as make other drastic changes to the source material. E.G. 4kids, funimation, etc. for some English examples at least.

    • @teleblue
      @teleblue ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJTMN i dont think the creators pressed for that information to be revealed. Rather it might have been part of a character bio handed over to the Italian studio and the Italian studio may have accidentally referred to the Albert by his full name. Another thing is that TMS has had a close history with the Italian production of Lupin considering that the series is very popular there and Part 4 was a joint production between Japan and Italy so I also wouldn't be surprise if they communicate more when it comes to the localisation process.
      I think this is honestly far more likely than the Italian dubbing studio embracing a strong fan theory

    I was under the impression Monkey Punch made Jigen a resident of New York who went to Japan after adulthood to escape attempts on his life. All other animated toons and features confirm this. do we assume this series is non-canonic? More like a "muppet babies" sub-genre?

    • @CJTMN
      @CJTMN  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Actually Jigen isn't in the manga (at least the original as far as I've read and seen) besides as like a hired goon. Same with Fujiko too actually, since MP had a bunch of women named Fujiko Mine ( ba dum tss) pop up in the manga. I don't think I found this stuff out until after I made my part 1 video so when I redo that I'll probably go more in depth on this stuff there.

    • @marsf6080
      @marsf6080 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the manga works on a looney tunes-style logic where backstories get changed as needed and there's not really much continuity from chapter to chapter. jigen's first appearance had him, iirc, be a japanese-american living in chicago. that gets contradicted multiple times after. he was also a hired goon against lupin, but in later stories is his dear friend. point is overall, with lupin, just roll with the punches, don't think about continuity and canon.

    • @diddymuck
      @diddymuck ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJTMN yer correct. Perhaps I should have specified the animated series and its more or less coherent connections.

    • @Modakune
      @Modakune ปีที่แล้ว

      @marsf6080 the Japanese American part was something from the anime, there are things implying that jigen is mixed like the rest of the Lupin gang in the manga, but nothing specifically pointing to him being from America. The only thing certain is a line from the original language that was changed in the tokyopop translation (Tokyopop changed a lot of lines") of the manga, in all hail the king, where Lupin states that Jigen and him have been friends since childhood, which is brought up again later on in the manga.
      This contradicts the chapter Jigen was first introduced where he is a hired hit man for Tokyo pd, but that hitman jigen chapter was retconned and ignored for the entirely of the original manga afterwards.

    • @Modakune
      @Modakune ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CJTMN the chapter with jigen's first appearance as a hired hitman was retconned immediately after that chapter. When you see him next in the manga, in "all hail the king" which is only a few chapter later in the original order for the chapters ( tokypop reordered chapters out of place, so you end up seeing jigen in the Pycal chapter before his introduction chapter and before all hail the king).
      Lupin mentions that him and Jigen are childhood friends, and this is mentioned again later on in the manga showing that this is the canon Monkey Punch stuck with. Tokyopop changed the line mentioning them being childhood friends for some reason to Lupin saying "we didn't always get along", but you can still read this line if you read it in the original Japanese language.
