Kyuhyun is definitely one of the best vocalists with great techniques. SM is really good at training amazing vocalists, tbh.

It’s not training. They’re good a finding good vocalists. For example some of sm’s best vocalists had very short training periods because they were already good. Jonghyun (rip) train for two years kyuhyun 6 months, ryeowook 8 months, Baekhyun, Chen and D.O all trained for less than a year. Sm isn’t the one who made them great. make sense ?
Actually he is the best (statement from professionals) I am so proud of him. however, it doesn't matter if you are 1 or 100, if you have a good and beautiful voice.
E H Yes, of course SM finds good candidates. But you're talking about how long they were trained before debut but they continue to train since. And all of the singers you mentioned have made significant improvements compare to debut. So still credit to SM for good vocal training.
W Huang if you actually listen, they don’t really improve that much. Minus Taemin, their technique stays pretty stagnant, their style is what improves/changes

To be honest, no matter from what fandom you are, one thing we all must admit: Kyuhyun is the best vocalist in kpop. His voice is truly a blessing to humanity.

Michaella Sendar then you should say he's not the best _singer_ in your opinion, because when you use the word vocalist you're talking about technique and he is arguably The. Best. Now, if you use the word singer, then you're talking about timbre and that's subjective, because everyone enjoys a type of color, and mine is different than yours since I also think that he has the best voice/timbre/color/tone in K-pop.

Sheryl Yaseen krystal and tiffany werent main vocalists in the first place.Theyre just lead. Id say they develop as the time past.
Krystal's dont really follow sm vocalists stereotype.She doesnt have the strongest voice that sounded like a diva was singing. But Im always impressed with her lower register.Its not the best in anyway.But it's her actual strong point as a vocalists.
Tiffany, she is quite different too. And obviously she sounded more like an english speaker singing rather than Taeyeon or Jessica.Which put her in advantage among these two.
Sheryl Yaseen Tiffany is a strong vocal actually she just sounds really nasally sometimes . but she had like surgery twice so of course she sounds different.

God damn it Kyuhyun.. that B4 to C#5 slide at the beginning is an auto-win. He has the best technique among all idol vocalists and even better than most solo artists too. I'm looking forward to see him be up there with Naul and PHS someday.

Its like you are a student in class, of course all students were work/study really hard but there were always ranking on class, the best student, avarage, etc..but of course they all have their own talents but that's the fact, in order to measure the ability of each students, there's a tools/instruments that the expert made to measure for specific categories or various categories.. So it applies on vocal analysis too.. And we have to admit khuhyun is the best vocalist for idol male, technically he had the best technique & the fact he had an unique vocal color too make he is amazing vocalist..
Kyuhyun is hands down the best vocalist in kpop today. He is a complete singer: over the top technique, strengthen by his SM training and his Bachelor's degree in music, a beautiful, soft and dynamic voice that works well in melllow ballads, r&b, pop rock and pop, super hard work to consistently improve and maintain the quality of his voice, and as a plus he plays the clarinet, the piano and more, which adds to his music knowledge and music "ear". I remember when I first listened to Kyuhyun in "U" M version. I wasn't impressed, his voice didn't seem mature enough or special. But he improved and worked worked worked to the point where I fell in love with his voice, truly it is super special, super beautiful and well protected(by technique) to last him decades. I am so proud of him and of how far he has gotten!

This is actually very informative. It's helpful to have all of these clips side by side for comparison. You can really tell which "timbre" singers are extremely lacking in technique when placed next to a competent "technique" singer.

First of all Yesung is not that good. He's overrated by Suju stans. Well, Onew could be there, but it's not something that would make a HUGE difference when it comes to technique.

Onew, Yesung and D.O are probably the biggest examples of this. SM have mastered the combination of techniques and vocal tone

I love how we all (90's kids) sees the growth and HUGE improvement on Taemin. We all know how he used to (almost)be the one who only dances in the group. But look at him now, slowly from one line, to lines, phrase, and now THE WHOLE FAHING SONG. He even covered Jonghyun's highnote. I love him, he deserve so much love from those hardworks. So don't be sad if your idols are in Timbre, it's considered as special (in voice) they may slowly become their own techniques. Taemin will always be the best example.

All these are but stereotypes. Many SM vocalists have special timbres too, like Kyuhyun, Baekhyun, D.O, Yesung and some YG vocalists have good technique. These things are not mutually exclusive.
Timbre doesn't mean bad technique, most jyp idols are also not that at all, who have you heard??

And people, mostly ARMY's out there, please stop comparing V and Jungkook with a good Timbre to the ones with amazing Technique. Most of the Technique ones, excluding Exo, B1A4, BtoB, Seventeen and 100%, are legendary groups with all almost 10 and more than 10 years in the industry, with polished talents that are made to beat everyone in any competition. I recognize the talent BTS has, they have talent in many areas, like dance, vocals and music. But so does BtoB and Seventeen, so in my eyes they aren't that much more special than them. I stan the group, but I can't be part of a fandom that bashes other groups that are their sunbaes to put their boys in the front. Comparing Jungkook and V to Kyuhyun and Taemin isn't something you should do as they are way out of everyones' league. The boys are growing, let them take their time before they join our Legendary family. I have faith they will, but it's just not their time yet. ARMY, not all of you, need to chill with your BTS fever and stop bashing their sunbaes that they have a good relationships with. I know right! I'm an ARMY myself, but we as a fandom are receiving so many new kpopers that doesn't know anything about the old groups, and the worst, doesn't even care. K.R.Y is the best combination of voices I've heard and I want my group to grow in their talents, just today BTS is 4 years since debut, there's a large road in front of us to go through.
I'm glad that you at least see their talent, and I don't know if there is someone out there that believe that Jungkook sings better than Kyuhyung tbh, so maybe the ARMYS you saw weren't talking about their voices in specific, but idk.

THIS. I can't agree more than this. I'm an ARMY and a fan of old/2nd generation groups. But i just can't stand it when ARMY are overrating BTS. I mean yes. They are talented of course. But as a daughter of a professional musician, and i can tell that BTS vocal lines needs a LOT of work to get to be good enough to be considered in the 'legend' line. I've seen BTS perform live, and i must admit i was very disappointed, maybe because they're tired idk. V was mostly off-pitch and out of tune. Jungkook's breathing was a mess. And idk what to say about Jimin (since i consider him more as a dancer than a vocal). J-hope and Jin was the one who kinda exceed my expectations, because they are the closest to their studio version. Suga and Rapmon are the most consistent.
In all said, i'm not bashing BTS. I'm just stating the truth, BTS is a great group, but they are not considered legends yet because they haven't made an 'impact' like Rain, SuJu, Big Bang, TVXQ, etc. basically they are the ones who opens up the international market for the newer Kpop groups, which makes the newer group VERY popular.
Of course Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Sandeul should absolutely be here for technique thing-y idol or i would be mad lol

Everybody often says that SM artists are all technique. However, in my opinion they are both technique and timbre. For example: Wookie and Yesung from SJ, Chen from EXO, Taemin from Shinnee, Taeil from NCT. They all have unique voice.

This video needs a disclaimer: just because an idol is listed under technique doesnt mean they don't have a very widely enjoyed timbre i.e. Junsu, ryeowook, etc. and vice versa just because they are known for their timbre doesn't mean their weak vocalists i.e jun. K, youngjae

You rate vocalists based on technique, you rate singers based on style. So it’s possible to be a good singer with out being a good vocalist. Most of the people listed as timbre were good singers. But some of the singers are better vocalists than others. For example jun. k and youngjae are miles ahead of people like Taeyang and jay park in terms of technique but not developed enough to be known for outstanding technique.
I've always found i love Chen's voice the most out of male vocalists ^_^
I just want to say that even if your fav is said to be timbre its not the worst thing. Timbre means you have got space to improve on technique and better yourself as a singer.
Its probably sounds ironic coming from me because im not vocally trained however i would i do know quite a bit about singing. I just want to remind ppl this before they feel upset about what their fav is labelled as. At the end of the day no one is tone deaf they all song good when singing however some know how to use vocal techniques to better and improve their singing and potential

Sorry, but I think Kyuhyun has both. Because he's very awesome in technique and also in timbre. His voice color is really unique. People who knows his voice even not too much automatically can guest his voice if someday hear his voice again

seungkwan is amazing, he's a rookie with technique which is so rare.
jungkook is a good example of someone who has incredible talent, but hasn't shown much drive to train his voice because he can get by with what he already has. i think v suffers because he is a baritone, but most idol music is written for tenors, and he doesn't get the training or opportunities he needs to use his ideal range.
Taemin is an example of someone who really didn't have much going for them vocally at the beginning of his career, but who has worked tirelessly to become a stunning vocalist.

maybe his attitude has changed recently, but in the past he has seemed kinda like he knows he has talent and thinks he'll get better by just singing like normal, and not working on specific techniques and stuff. theres a difference between saying "i want to become a better singer" and actually putting in the time to *train*. he hasnt seemed very interested in training, only in the end result, 'getting better'. and their schedules are so full its not like he can just make time for it if he wanted unless bighit signs off on it. i mean, jimin is my bias and he just treats his voice terribly, which is really depressing because he has a lot of potential and he could be hurting himself. so you can bet it would make me happy if bighit would invest time and money into training their vocalists better. i know bts was supposed to be a rap group originally but they still sing and need to train that talent specifically. bts is so dance and rap focused the vocal element really gets neglected, which is why we have 'jungkook and the boys' as line distribution every song, because kookie has the most vocal 'talent' not because he has the best vocal technique. getting by on rap and dance is not really enough anymore either, because they are so big and mainstream now. i just believe in them and their talent and their potential so much and its so sad to see their vocals not get the attention they deserve.
ZWar101 I totally agree with them needing vocal training to preserve their voices, because their songs recently are getting a lot more vocal parts and ballad-y I guess? like spring day as a title track. idk about V but recently jimin and Jungkook have like... kept talking about wanting improve their vocals and become better singers. I just think big hit isn't investing in that which is a shame bc they're not AS interested in self composition like the others which is what I feel like what bh is trying to push everyone to do...
i've recently been kinda having a kpop culture crash course these past few months (getting familiar with literally every other notable group lmao) so i'm not as up to date on those bts specific things, but i believe you when you say they say want to train. its heartening to hear that. v actually has pretty okay technique when they don't make him sing like a tenor 🙃. and bighit is definitely sleeping on jin. like he currently doesn't show any more vocal technique than jimin and the rest but he too has potential! now if only bighit would fucking listen to the cries for proper voice lessons, from the members *and* the fans.
ZWar101 I completely agree, V actually has pretty decent techniques when he is singing in a Baritones range. He is defiantly the best singer in Bts however he does have room for improvements (nct's Jaehyun is also a baritone but has pretty good techniques). I wish Kpop would cater more for baritones as its only the ones who have a big vocal range (e.g Key) who can play a major role vocally however this comes at the expense of technique. Key is another baritone that would have good technique if he didn't have to sing in a tenors range. I understand why they wasn't trained technically pre-debut however now that they are bringing in big money for their company the company should invest it into vocal techniques not just for them to sound better but to ensure they can use their instrument without seriously damaging it.
