I've seen a decent chunk of confusion here and elsewhere (far more than I'm comfortable with) as to whether or not this is official, as well as tons of folks saying we should've been clearer on the title.
With the former in particular getting more prevalent, I agree and have changed the title to be more direct and clear as to the unofficial nature of this. Apologies for not being clearer to begin with, I presumed I had taken enough steps to ensure clarity and I was wrong on that front.

It's ok man, it's just that the project is so good, so well done, so full of passion, so beautiful to look at, so magical that even I thought at first that it was an official project, really in this case it should have been a little more specific but nothing to worry about because our fandom really needs this project so much that when they saw this work of art they thought they were in another universe. Keep up the good work, we are sending good energy to everyone involved in this project.
Honestly I really hope Konami doesn’t do anything to this. I can already see countless nights playing this game, and to me it looks like a worthy addition to the castlevania line, fan made or not.
I'm not sure what kind of idiot could think this was official. Its not a pachinko machine so of course its not official. Game looks interesting though.

This looks like the coolest thing I’ve seen out of castlevania in years, I’ve alwase wanted a game about Julius’ initial bout with Dracula as it was only ever told in dialogue. Julius is my favorite Belmont and seeing a fan game look and sound this good gets me excited beyond belief. Please see this project through to the end
I hope to hell this actually gets finished and released but I'm not holding my breath knowing Konami. I sense a C&D happening sooner than later. Best way around that is just ditching the Castlevania name and calling it something else so it can still be released. We'll still know what it's supposed to be.
Tower of Dolls being used as the theme for this trailer is also a really neat touch, an obscure track like that being used is very unique.
Was expecting Heart of Fire because, you know, Julius, but this is cool, Tower of Dolls is so underrated
There are several songs from X68000, ReBirth, and many unused songs and remixes throughout the more obscure games between the classics and the GBA/DS era. Would love to here more renditions like the one in this trailer.

The shrine is Hakuba shrine, as they conducted the ritual for eclipse in 1999
okay, I wanna give a shout-out to whoever made that demake sprite of the Dead Pirate. they got the energy of the original sprite and the way it animates perfectly!
also, I love the mix of rustic archetecture with modern vehicles all about.

dead pirate's always been a weirdly favorite enemy (i think it's the kinda goofy pose) and the nature of him having a saber meant i could do some nice smooth animations for it
as for the set dressing for the town -- i actually used a lot of real architectural styles from Romania, and there are a couple of buildings in specific that are just straight-up based on a real building there somewhere, it was a very fun artistic exercise/study

I know it's such a small thing, but seeing the NPC Soldiers do actual damage in the forum thread and in this video brings me an ear-to-ear grin. This fangame looks great, and that's coming from someone who always struggled with Classic Castlevanias.

Yeah it’s the metal slug 2 final battle. Even if they are totally useless it adds so much to the moment when you have allies.

Looks so good... Mad props for using Tower of Dolls as the main theme, one of my personal favorite Castlevania tracks.
I like how the shiloutte of the boss is visible, wandering around in the background of the stage at 3:17.

Well to be fair they are using like 40-year-old technology and techniques to make it. I’m not saying it’s not a good effort. I’m not saying that it’s not professionally made. Just that people have had time to cultivate their abilities with technology like this. It’s a massively worthwhile effort

Absolutely stunning- the graphics, music, and story are awesome, as would be expected. Looking forward to playing this take on 1999 eventually! Thanks for persevering in finding a way to fill this gap in the timeline and give Julius some more love.
I was always curious what happened in 1999 in the Castlevania universe, as it was mentioned so many times in the Castlevania series, saying that "the world almost ended". Too bad it was never explicitly stated with details, nor there was an official Castlevania game set in 1999.
Hopefully, we might get to see how Vlad Tepes/Dracula will reincarnate into Soma Cruz at the end of the game.

Oh they care a SHITTON about it. Because they're going to hit the creators with a Cease & Desist lawsuit for trying to use their property. They love owning the rights to the name for exactly this purpose, and otherwise they want to make sure the series is dead and buried.

Yeah but such a thing is unrealistic. You'd have to buy the label from Konami before they let you make any games under the name "Castlevania", and they're not exactly going to sell for chump change. Otherwise, you'd have to wait for the first Castlevania's copyright to expire and go into the public domain, which is still about sixty years off, more or less.
Easiest thing to do? Settle for Bloodstained. Games are really taking off, Konami has NO RIGHTS to them, they're fun as hell, and we'll hopefully see more sequels into the future. Not to mention that the games are made by people who CREATED Castlevania back in the day.

The intro alone is a love letter to the whole series. I couldn't be more hyped to see a game finally taking place during the 1999 Demon Castle War. I really hope that Konami won't try to C&D this marvelous project. :-/

I don't understand why Konami just can't share license and have some % from sales of the game if they don't care anymore of their series. Fans like to create games and Konami could gave them little support, which not cause them to lose money and still get some earnings or at least people's love.
I really like this trailer. Game and visual looks amazing. Tower of Dolls sounds nice. It's cool to see soldiers trying to protect city from monsters and it feels like Dracula goes to put the whole world on apocalyptic stage with his servants.
I hope this doesn't get C & D by Konami.

I am really impressed by this. It has its own unique atmosphere, yet it feels very much Castlevania. I love the references to III and Aria of Sorrow, the graphics looks amazing and the music sounds pretty cool.
I really wish you the strength and the will to complete this project!

Circle of the Moon is a Metroidvania, while both Curse of the Moon games (aka the Bloodstained games) are Classicvania. This game seems like it will be Classicvania and not Metroidvania.

Okay, this looks cool as hell, the music is good, and there's clearly a lot of love poured into it. Assuming that the K people don't issue a cease and desist, I'm going to enjoy it when it comes out. That having been said - since Dracula and most of the other monsters in the series are in the public domain, it would have been pretty easy to make this, make it obvious that it was inspired by Castlevania and was a continuation of the story, and still not violated K's copyright.
Please understand - I don't care about violating their copyright. As far as I'm concerned, they gave up any right to the property when they made it into a slot machine. My only concern is that a project like this might have a better chance of seeing the light of day if it was just different enough to be legally distinct. Although other Castlevania fan games have made it, so I'm probably worrying about nothing.

Konami needs to give the rights of Castlevania to someone or some company that actually loves the game. Konami hasn't cared about Castlevania since Order of Eclessia. I hope I get to play this, it looks awesome. Castlevania 3 was one of my favorites.
The next game is now it's at the hands of Konami China Entertainment.

@@MaidenHell1977 Well, look at the Beyond Skyrim team. All that work, knowing there's no way in Oblivion they'll make a dime off it, so why continue? Because they want to, because they started, and damn it, they can't stop now. Granted, the big difference is that's mods for an existing game and this is a game Konami should be making but has no interest in doing so. Obviously, they're well within their rights to copyright strike this to Hell and back, but if this gets done before that happens, so long as no money changes hands in the distribution process, the most they could do is slap a C&D order on it, but much like ROMs of official games, all people with the knowhow have to do is upload it somewhere else. They can't possibly track down all the sites.

This looks incredibly dope and would love to play it, but maaan I've seen this story before. Some passionate fans announce a fangame early, call it by a trademarked name (in this case, using the name "Castlevania" directly), and it gets shut down by a C&D before it even has a chance. This is Konami we're talking about here too, their shitbag lawyers wouldn't hesitate a second shutting this down when and if they get wind of it.
Best of luck to you and the team, and if by some miracle if this actually makes the light of day now that you've announced it, I'll be there to play it day 1. But as the great Woolie once said: "If you or someone you know is working on a really cool fangame, please, shut the fuck up about it until it's ready."
If they lay a Cease and Desist claim, I lay a Cease To Exist claim on them personally in return, as in not only their company, but also themselves as well. Let them, as well as their legal team, and their allies, deal with THAT kind of response!

For everyone who thinks we don't know who Woolie is: please refer to the thread. There are a couple of recent posts in particular that address the concern that keeps being brought up, but in brief:
Assuming we're ignorant of risk is a misjudgment of our intelligence. A conscious decision was made based on all the information we have, and we chose to make it anyway. "Hiding" isn't as effective as some might think it is, and is a gross underestimation of any given company's online awareness.
You're all free to disagree with the decision and even think it's foolish, that IS your right and prerogative, but please don't make the mistake of thinking we just put this up carelessly without a thought as to what MAY happen.
Looks cool, only request (I know this is asking a lot) is to have a 2p option.

I do disagree. First of all, if you never showed anything to anyone until release, literally no one would know.
But what I think is an even better strategy, especially for a company like konami, is: make the game, finish it, call up konami, show them the game, and say:
"You give us the license, you get X percent of the sales or upfront x $ whatever the deals are and we will sell this with the konami logo and the original CV name.
If you refuse, we will change the name and all direct references and we will sell it under a different name, similar to Bloodstained."
I assume this is how Sonic Mania worked out.

I see allot of bloodstained curse of the moon graphics in a really good way worked! Hopefully we will be able to play it in the near future as well,that's how Konami should work a new title! 😉 I am really impressed!

Finally, the apocalyptic war against Dracula 1999 being told the right way...by the actual fans of the game
Games like this always confuse me a bit of what they're trying to achieve aesthetically (same can be said for Shovel Knight). On one hand you have audio trying to mimic the NES in every regard right down to limited channels and it's all in mono. The graphics seem to want to have the NES feel with limited colors, etc. But then we have scrolling backgrounds and effects that could only be done on 32-bit consoles like PlayStation or Saturn. Not that I object to any of this, I just think if games like these take liberties with the graphics, they should also take liberties with the audio. Make it stereo. Give it more instruments at once, etc.

IGA is overrated. He didn't made a good game since SotN.
@Tom Ffrench a little of columns A and B, the series did well under IGA but he wasn't the sole creator of SotN, in fact the game was already pretty far along before he was brought on as a producer. Despite this he seems fine with letting people assume it was all his doing if his behavior about Bloodstained is any indication
