Hardcore fan of Castlevania here, I just finished your fangame and I must say: I absolutely loved every moment of it! It is as perfect as a reimagining of Castlevania 1 can get - We got best of all worlds:
-A very very nice control scheme, basically serving as a middle ground between Classic Castlevanias and... Harmony of Dissonance I'd say?
-A faithful yet incredibly improved map based on what appears to be a mixture of CV1 and CVChronicles; Essentially a love letter to the original Demon Castle
-Improved presentation in many regards; The little details on enemies that the original games lacked help them stand out so much, the Rondo tiles look surprisingly great with the simplified palettes
-The difficulty balance is far superior to many, many of the Metroidvania entries that just tend to get too easy after a while: Here it feels just right.
-The bestiary in itself is pretty great too. I Found myself reading through descriptions of bosses, and I gotta say: I admire how much of them actually reference the mythos that spawned them!
I could go on and on, but I think my thoughts can be put perfectly via one sentence:
I wish Dracula's Curse got a similar treatment.
Konami was one of the best game publisher and now it just vanished into Oblivion. What a shame...
as for the balance.. the game become easier and easier as we progresses, it was very intimidating at the first few bosses
The mid-late game balance is a bit broken actually. The herb sub weapon is WAY too good once you have a decent amount of hearts and the right cards. I used hardly any brain power to finish the last like 40% of the game because I could spam herbs through all damage.
@@RockEsper yep, i just use laurel and nothing else, it solves all the problems
@@RockEsper Using the Laurels with the Laurel card or the Healing card with the Thunder Whip is kind of necessary with all the unreactable attacks there are in this game man lol
Another classic Castlevania game to add to the collection. Many thanks! Especially nice to have in a world where Konami refuses to do anything with the Castlevania name. It’s up to the fans.
Well, considering that Konami hasn't made a decent game in ages, it's really up to the fans of the franchises to keep them alive.
I saw your comment on a castlevania fan game compilation, and that brought me here, thanks!
Thanks to the production team, Castlevania has been perfectly recreated in a retro state in a stylish way.
I discovered that Simon, the protagonist of this game, actually paid attention to the details of the clothing. The obvious difference between the left shoulder and the right shoulder was carefully displayed in a bitmap format and would be different depending on the direction. Thank you to the producer for his hard work. Please continue to work hard to reproduce some classic games in the future, I sincerely support it!
Fella just casually makes a free Castlevania game that's miles better than Konami has managed in at least 16+ years. What a world we live in. Fantastic job!
Waiting for the inevitable cease & desist; feels like games like these would be the perfect opportunity for a win/win situation like "if you release a version of this with some premium goodies on Steam, you'll get most of the profits & we get a bit for the IP usage", but the rightsholders never seem interested. Then again, maybe there's some bureucracy nightmares in there I don't know about, just spitballing.
Well, to be fair, Konami isn't Nintendo.
By far one of the best Castlevanias I've ever played. I just finished and I must say, you and your team did a fantastic job! This is such a fun and unique twist to the original Castlevania. The different upgrades were done so amazingly well! I Absolutely recommend this to anyone who is a fan of Castlevania! Wonderful work, my friend!
Parece incrível! Esse final de semana eu vou jogá-lo com certeza! Obrigado e bom trabalho amigo!!!
Just finished it. Honestly can't recommended it enough. It is simply an excellent metroidvania, with an emphasis on castlevania linearity mixed with interconnected levels. Extraordinarily good game, and an even better fan game. Amazing work Lv. 4 games.
Is both inspiring and sadenning to see that fans are capable of making games with way more love and dedication than the actual companies that own the ip's for these classic franchises. Congratulations
This and Mega Man tbh
This is just a retread of the first game, sure it's cool, but not as cool as any of the official games symphony of the night and beyond
@@arzfan29 You're right. It's much cooler.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to this project. This is a true labor of love and it shows. Well done and bravo!
Thanks a lot for such love and effort, I'm already enjoying this a lot
Had a lot of fun playing it! Thank you all for the work and passion put in this project!
This game is quite well done, you have an absolute talent as a game maker and look forward to future work!
Thank you for putting together such a fantastic tribute. Your love for all the properties shines through, yet everything felt new and fresh. Can't even tell you how excited I was for each power up, wondering what mechanic it would add and which game it would pay a nod to. I'm just sorry I couldn't pay for all the time and effort, you have a fan ready and waiting for your next commercial project.
Freaking game is incredible man. Thank you so much for this. Its been so long since I have waited for a classic style NES castlevania game that has lived up to the hype. Truly a job well done and amazing sprite talent along with the music and lores. Thank you so much!!!
I've seen a lot of fan made CV games but this is easily one of the best. Very well done by the devs. Keep up the good work❤
Wow this looks awesome! So glad I just saw an article about it or I'd have never know this existed.
Same here! Just downloaded it, it's LEGIT!
Haven't had something grip me like this in a long time, really appreciate the attention to detail from the original games & it was wonderfully thought out. Thank you so much for your efforts & really, really look forward to your next project, but if not patches to this fantastic experience. Well done! ♥
industrial grade Castlevania fan my whole life. I actually melted my NES cartridge as a child because i left it on for so long. I've gotta say this is m'er f'ing incredible. WELL DONE MY FRIEND! THANK YOU!
Just played through this entire game and I loved it! There were so many creative flourishes added. I loved all of the references to games that came later in the series, yet this felt exactly like a tuned up version of the original game.
When I think about trying to convince my Dev friends to help me make a Castlevania fan game, this is exactly the topper of game I dream of. So finishing this and playing this Was amazing. This game is a gem 💎
This really felt like a passion project. A+, will replay!
Thank You, Lv.4 Games!
To think, I could have missed this treasure if not for the Linux Game Cast! Props to those guys.
Bro, I played this through straight shot last month, and it was amazing. you need to do a cv2 and cv3 treatment like this. Simply stunning
Wow! I just found out about your game this morning. I downloaded it right away and played the first level. The giant bat killed me, lol. I'm definitely going to do a series on this one for my channel. Thanks for making this game. Your love for Castlevania definitely shines through. Great job, my friend!
This game has exceeded my expectations in every way and is by far my favorite CV fan game. The sprite work is excellent, the music is top notch and all the additions are fun. It really feels like a labor of love! Thank you so much for putting this out there. Fun ride all the way!!!
Looking forward to whatever you have planned next!
Just finished playing through this game in one sitting. Loved every moment. Such a fun game! Great job.
This was amazing btw. A lot of fun. Well done
at last !!! i was waiting for this for so long.thank you.
I cant believe i am finding out about this 4 months later, but i am glad i even found out about this at all, this is what ive been wanting for so long, this scratches an itch i havent been able to satisfy ever since i played and finished castlevania 3.
This was so dope. I know you put a lot of love and effort into this. It showed 100%. I hope you'll do one for Castlevania 3 in the future!
This looks absolutely AMAZING!!!
Thanks for the hard work in advance! I will definitely try it.
th-cam.com/video/C8Sw2CGQkK8/w-d-xo.html
You had me with the X68000 music.
Wow, looks super cool! Wish I had a PC, would play it for sure.
Congrats on the launch.
Just buy a cheap "potato" PC. It'll be enough to run this game.
Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to this project♥
As far as fangames go, this one was incredibly well-made. I grew up with Castlevania 1, and you managed to perfectly capture how Castlevania 1 felt and keep the nostalgia in-tact, but still expand upon it, making tons of QoL improvements and go your own way with it, all while making it feel and play more like an Igavania game--which is definitely no easy feat to pull off, but you nailed it dude. I'd be very much interested to see you come up with your own metroidvania style indie game and actually start making some cash from your talents--because you certainly could!
How is there already a 100% deathless speedrun, lol. Congrats on the launch, looks great!
Runs like a champ on Debian.
We're blessed with a lot of great fangames lately, Zelda 2, Final Fantasy and now this. It looks absolutely gorgeous, great work! I'm pumped to try it out as soon as i can.
Can you link the zelda an final fantasy fan game?
@@imkrut i can't. i tried two times now and my responses keep getting deleted. sorry.
so search for z2aol by hoverbat and final fantasy renaissance by rengames. i hope this resonse won't getting deleted again. no link this time so this should be fine.
Good luck, both games are great!
no -.- believe me i tried responding with link, without link. reponses keep getting deleted. all i can say at this point search for them, you will find them.
@@imkrut zelda 2 pc port by hoverbat, idk about final fantasy, I was never a fan.
There's also a Links Awakening PC port that came out not too long ago. Fan game enjoyers been eating good
this is an amazing Launch! not only adds a new spin to an old game, it's amazing on its own way and adds a lot of replayability, I dunno if you guys plan on also doing it for castlevania 2 but it would be amazing, in the meanwhile, THIS Is amazing! congratulations!
So this castle of any game is so good. I need to finish it on 100%. There's no way around that. Can you please do the entire series you've done? Such an amazing version of this game. It's like you revamped that old school Konami Ultra games feel and I need more of this. Willing to pay whatever amount of money to your PayPal to donate because you truly are an artist. Furthermore, would you mind taking a crack at the original teenage mutant Ninja turtles game for NES? It feels like you would dramatically enhance that game based on what you did with this. Can't wait to see what you do next! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Looks pretty good! I'll be checking this out!
Thanks a lot for this awesome project!
You can truly feel the passion and love for the franchise through the whole adventure.
Konami might have lost it, but we are grateful of having stuff like this which carries on the legacy in such a fantastic way.
Thanks a lot!!
Wow, this looks awesome!! Excellent work!
This is amazing! I watched a full review and the game just looks amazing. Grabbing this to load on the Steam Deck
I've played this for about half an hour and really, really enjoy it. I'm planning on playing it on my Twitch channel tonight! ^_^
This looks dope AF - I might have to eschew sleep and self-care to properly get into it.
MAD respect to the developer, composer/arranger, and not least, @JupiterClimb for bringing it to the fore
I grew up on Castlevania 1 and II, so this game is like an early Christmas present.
Thank you for creating something beautiful! A Labor of Love yields Art.
This is godlike!
This is fantastical! I'm downloading this right now.
Great job, I'm only at the beginning, but I had a lot of fun, it is also great to see some old school sometimes annoying mechanics becoming great : Mermen which keep on respawning BUT also drop a lot of useful stuff ;)
This looks rad although there is something that's very very hilarious about ripping out all of the RPG mechanics so it's more like a traditional Metroid-like. But that's probably more in line with what it would be if this came out on the NES.
This is awesome, congratulations! One advice tho, you should really get rid of the big lock icon above Simon when you press the lock movement button, it just breaks the immersion, the player really don't need or want to see that. You should at least add an option to disable it.
Super cool, thanks for your hard work !
This looks amazing! I can't wait to play it
This is phenomenal work. The only drawbacks I personally find is that the main char feels like he is on ice constantly. And it is a bit too fast. Other than that, truly excellent work.
Wow!!! I can't wait to try this out. What a feat!
after playing this i've gotta say, the world needs more vanias like this one. really fantastic job.
Man, this is so cool. Amazing work, seriously.
Looks awesome!! We can't wait to play it too!!
Both challenging, and rewarding. Can't complain. 👍
thank you so much for your hard work. really appreciate it.
Congratulations on this amazing work.
This is a tribute to all castlevania games. Excellent game play and so good game. Please make and other castlevania revamped games
simon really loves to slide like he's on ice when you turn you can make him moonwalk too lol
He is a smooth criminal after all.
Having a lot of fun so far, very impressive! I can feel the soul of the original underneath the fun new direction and surprises. Wish Konami cared as much about Castlevania.
Holy shit this is good!!!! Wall Jump!?!?!? Dude, I was hooked once I got that ability. So sick.
Yeah!!! Simon's Quest is my favorite Castlevania ever. Can't wait to play this one.
Looks great! I'm going to give it a try.
Loved every minute of it! Plz maybe add a hard mode in the feature! Would definitely play through it again =)
I got this game recommended by a new sub, I liked a lot the NES game so I will be playing this later on my channel on stream (spanish, I ~speak english though) once I finish my current game, thanks for the hard work !
Such a joy to play.
I’m can’t get over that Konami doesn’t see & exploit the fan talent they have.
This is a polished retail product released by a small team that people would absolutely pay for.
Give some of these talented fans a budget & let them release something officially.
On the flip side, Konami hasnt sued them into oblivion over it like Nintendo would have done by now
playing it and i'm really impressed but there's a few crashes, one while jumping out of water near the entrance of the underground caves. The card system is pretty neat, I like the Shovel Knight/Dark Souls moneybag system. The screen also zooms into the hud after pausing/using the menu screen for me after launching the game for the second time. I am using the crt filter and it looks great btw. In general it looks really, really good especially for a CV fangame. Maybe the best outside of romhacks.
I think the levels are designed well, just a good enough amount of challenge! I LOVE how you're combining CV1+Chronicles for the areas/music and some enemies like the stainglass monster but I'm hoping I'd see more bosses from Chronicles, only up to Golem so far.
The bosses are good, they need a bit more juice. All of them should be a little bigger imo, Giant Bat especially, and Medusa should have a second form that is her big head when she goes into her pinch phase.
Ok, finished the game and I have some notes:
You went insane on The Creature in this game.
It's Bloodlines' freaky gigantic design which was already huge in Bloodlines but is literally taller than the golem in this game so it looks like a damn colossus lol. But he doesn't have the goofy chain whip attack like in bloodlines, just the punching animations, and he has his classic falling debris from CV3/Haunted Castle but also his chemical throw from Super CV4 but ALSO his elbow fire from Rondo? 😂THIS is what I'm talking about!! You juiced up this boss like crazy!! Most if not all bosses after The Creature have been good but...
The card combos kinda broke them though, I was able to heal through it with the Healing Strike and Fire Whip + I think I even had Laurel just picked up from a few rooms earlier (didn't even notice I picked it up) so there was never a threat there. I think you should make Healing Strike take up two card spaces to slightly discourage it.
The Death fight was another insane moment, the effort put in was crazy, it definitely felt weird that he was missing his iconic original slow random sickle spam though. But you NEED to nerf the Bible, it makes Death an absolute joke. I was looking forward to learning Death and Dracula but I didn't need to at all when Bible protects from 100% their projectiles!
Also the Clock Tower zone was so short compared to everything that followed! I was shocked by that. My suggestion would be to make the Bible not defend against boss projectiles, just used as a damage amplifier. As it is I think it's not possible for the boss to take damage while getting hurt by the Bible though so that should be changed to be more like SoTN's behavior.
After completing it I feel like this game is so close to being something really special but falls just a bit short.
More suggestions...
The gripping claws, bridge snapper and dash stone to me feel kinda random aesthetically since they're so foreign to Simon as abilities. I wish the new abilities were sold with the new whips, I feel like the bridge snapper could've been an ability that came with the flame whip, giving Simon a firey-meteor he could do directly down or diagonally (like Alucard's dive kick), the lightning whip could've come with an electric Blade Dash that elementally enables that otherwise very random infinite flying. Might be difficult to reconfigure this and switching whips to do abilities would do too much, maybe just flavoring the Gripping Claws, Bridge Snapper, Dash Stone with elemental stones instead could do the trick and pairing the stone with it's corresponding whip could enhance the ability (fire gem+firewhip=divekick, lightning gem+lightning whip, infinite airdash.)
Also, the initial slide being infinite unintentional after seeing the description of the spiked boots.
Also more bugs: when Simon interacts with the save sphere, it registers many times, like gives many hit sfx after hitting it once, and saves many times very quickly multiple times upon contact. I didn't think this was a big deal but it might lead to some kinda corruption and thus crashes? idk.
Dashing up the stairs on the left in the merman area in the castle entrance zone with the spike boots leads to a softlock.
One of the rooms in Marble Gallery with the flowers that preceeds the spike wall room looks like it has the foreground missing completely.
The pitch black painting in the Marble Gallery save room leaves a trail of Simon's sprites or the map screen in a glitchy way, not sure if that's intentional or not.
@@Amgitstigma I think you may be right about the save having the possibility of corruption. I've been unable to play after loading my game today. I got the screen size bug and was able to fix it by turning fullscreen off and back on then restarting the game, but my whip menu is buggy and I crash pretty consistently after a few minutes.
Sucks that it made the game pretty much completely unplayable for me at this point. Save corruption is the only thing I could think of that would cause this to persist after restarts.
This is fantastic! an absolute MASTERPIECE for me!
This is great work need to get this one too. And the Simon curse Transylvania one coming out.
Just played through it, absolute 10/10! Hope to see a Simon's Quest Revamp, that one was my fav 🙂
I just beat my first run of the game, it was phenomenal. I had a great time playing it, I would highly recommend
This game looks and sounds very good AND FAST! well i found how to configure the controls, so right now it's one of the best games related with castlevania i've even played!!
Speaking as someone who has played and beat almost every official Castlevania game in existence: this is so well-made that it strikes a sharp contrast between games designed by fans vs. games designed by corporate-metric-driven executives. You clearly know what elements of the Castlevania series are fun for gameplay and which ones aren't. The quality-of-life features and overall feel of the game are phenomenal. I am in awe. Also THANK YOU FOR NOT MAKING SIMON WATER-SOLUBLE
Should you ever decide to update/patch in more content, may I make a suggestion: you already have a Card system similar to Circle of the Moon. Why not use CotM's NG+ Mode features? Magician, Fighter, Shooter, Thief variants, or whatever you make...AND as a "Victory Lap", once you've beaten them all, create a "Belmont" mode or something that gives you the bonuses of ALL of them just to feel like a GOD.
You are the goat !!!!!!! Great job hope Konami contact you to bring this wonderful revamped officialy and of course on switch😅
Please do part 2 next. That game deserves to be redone correctly.
Castlevania 1 is my favourite one, this is awesome! More likes! More awareness!
This needs a physical copy!!!
Just beat it and i absolutly adored it!
10/10 rank SSS one of the best remakes i have ever played! i loved every second of it
took me 4 hours and 8 minutes to 100 percent finish it on normal. which is awesome for a fan game.
I WANT MORE.
I love this game guys, I hope you have plans to make more classic vanias like this 🔥
Thanks for having a linux version.
This may fall on deaf ears, but please open source the game! Aside from community preservation, people would have a far easier time developing mods (such as a randomizer) for this wonderful gem.
Your wish has been fulfilled apparently. ;)
one of the best games i ever played. Now we need Castlevaina 2 revamped
Thanks this seems dope!
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE SHOULD POST THE SOUNDTRACK OF THIS GAME ON YT!!! IT'S SO GOOD I NEED TO HEAR IT EVERYWHERE I GO AAAAAAAAAAAA
This is what gaming was made for. The older games are so much better than the newer games today. Everything looks exactly the same today. When I was a kid I had a dream that games would be a certain way today and that dream was never fulfilled. I wish I had became a video game programmer so that I can make great products. I have a lot of great ideas for video game designers but I can't catch the ear of any of them
nice always thought it'd be cool to have a simon game where he uses all his powers and costumes from different cv games
Out standing.
Bro tengo que probar este juego, se nota el amor que genial gracias por compartir!
This is AWESOME! You should leave a place where folks can donate.
Is amazing this fangame! Please, revamped Castlevania II: Simon's Quest 🎉🎉❤
Looks awesome 👍
Looks great, very nostalgic! ✌🏼🤓
this game is beyond amazing
Those bats are really dangerous and its set up like symphony of night kind of cool. I like it😊
Can't tell if this is more Zelda 2: castlevania, or just sotn on nes, here for it regardless
