  • So I always keep a eye on auction sites for machinery that would sit nicely in my workshop, I saw this compact edge bander pop up... at a price I couldn't resist so I got it back to the workshop and learnt all about edgebanders. Having never even used one, it's safe to say I have learnt a lot. I hope you have learnt something too. There is some cool inside the machine footage later in the video too and a sneak peek at another machine I have recently acquired!!

    As an edgebander mechanic, I really appreciate your thorough explanation of everything. You explained everything perfectly. Great education for those who don't have the experience. Nice littler machine you have there. Thanks for sharing!

    Felder are so helpful with everything.
    I brought a new panel saw and the installation engineer was so switched on he helped me with other gear in the workshop once he finished getting the saw calibrated.

    After working with a edgebander for about 6 months now I can tell it's amazing what they are able to do material from .5 mil to 3mm with bevels including veneer. But damn are they kinda picky and very loud you'll want earplugs for when you're changing rolls on that sucker. Then again the one I work with is about 20 feet long. But yeah easily one of the coolest machines in the shop.

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes very picky, but they can earn some money! Probably why they get upgraded a lot!

    interesting video as always mate. on the air compressor note might be worth sorting out the air leak and if its a long air line run reduce it as much as you can because you will get a pressure drop over a long run

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers ross, Its a small leak inside the machine actually, yeah, there is about 3psi drop, we have a decent 1" galvanised airline around all the workshops so not a massive drop. needs a teeny bit more top end pressure

    Really enjoyed the video Oliver. Always amazes me how all the processes are synchronised and it looks like a great machine for my size of workshop. Glad you had good service from Felder as they are coming to me to deliver and commission a new RL200 dust extraction system, FB510 Bandsaw and a F700z Spindle moulder in the next 2-3 weeks. Never enough room in the workshop eh?. All the best Adrian :-)

      Thanks Adrian, I was surprised how small it was, i guess the trouble with these is you need access to the back of them as well as room to pass the panels through. Wow, thats a nice delivery to recieve! Hope you get on well with them!!

    Interesting to see your explanation of how an edgebander works - always thought they looked ridiculously complicated for what appears to be relatively simple process, but you've justified their complexity in this video. Nice one. However, I really would never wish to own one - that would mean I'm using lots of panel materials, which I bloody hate. (I'd probably have more fun playing with the workings of it)

    Nice find Ollie - I’m always nervous buying machines second hand you seem to have done well- any tips how to avoid the duds ! I’ve been looking at wide belt sanders in particular so looking forward to that one when you get a chance 👍

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Erm, i guess to an extent, its a price game, find a very smart looking model with history and a reputable home its going to be more money, if its cheap enough and you have the abilities to tinker with a machine to get it right then that is an option too. The wide belt needed a fair bit of work to get running right tbh, wasnt straight forward.
      I tend to try and buy stuff at the right money when they come up, rather than set my heart on getting a machine and paying whatever the price is at the time.

      Secondhand wide sanders can be a big risk. If the mat or main roller are damaged , you are in big trouble.

  • @tpaulfelder1
    @tpaulfelder1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On the edge bander we have pressure rollers are slightly canted so that it is nor necessary to apply side ways pressure when feeding the work piece through.
    How fine is the finish on the top and bottom edges. Can you feel any slight protrusion as you run a finger across it. Do you feel it might be improved with a light sanding ?

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey paul, i think that is the case, i dont think it needs the extra pressure, i was having issues feeding the solid timber edging, but found out it was the infeed of the edging rather than the glueing side that was at fault. You can set it to what you want tbh, its very fine adjustment, if you were sanding anyway i would probably leave ever so slightly proud, and the sander would bring flush rather than trim it slightly below.

  • @extremewoodworker

    Nice video. Have you tried it edgebanding the short ends (such as for a drawer face)?

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes and no, there is a limit to what it will feed and actually attach to a panel in terms of edging length, i found to do a short panel i had to trim the edging to the minuimum length it would feed at and turn the end trimming and guillotine off. its either that or do drawer ends before ripping down i guess. im not too experienced with it

      Hi does it leave them long or rough cut? You can alter the cut by adjustinf the pressure valves on the airline. (Very small amout at a time) Nees 80PSI air pressure to work properly
