What is the sense of a tent where you have to tie on a sleeve to make the poles waterproof?
Hi, this is an old design and we were previously unable to factory seam-seal the tent. The new Laser Compact tents come without the pole sleeve cover and are already seam-sealed.
So you don't peg the bottom of the end poles? So the groundsheet will also see tension from the guying because it's looped over the peg so tension is shared?
But there’s not enough pegs supplied for the sleeve cover!
There are 10. Two for the main guys (2), one for each corner of the flysheet (4), Two to peg out the inner (2) and two for the sleeve cover (2). 2+4+2+2=10. Actually mine had the pegs missing altogether, I had to have them sent separately.
Would I be able to pitch this tent in-doors if needed?
No, it's not free-standing. You need to peg into the ground for tension to hold it up.
Pole sleeve cover? I don’t get it
Adam parker it’s because they don’t tape the seam where both halves of the fly are sewn together so the cover is to keep it waterproof.
Why isn’t that seam taped out of interest? Was that the case on the competition 1 too? Just seems like extra faff and puts me off buying this really.

I know there’s a cover for it. My question is, what is the reason for not taping the seam and requiring a seperate cover?
Hi Gareth, the tent is made using a fabric that is silicone coated on both sides which prevents it from being taped. You don't have to use the pole cover, we decided to include it as a 'belt and braces' added extra if it's bad weather to give that added reassurance. If you like the Laser Compact style but would prefer taped seams then have a look at the Laser Compact All Season 1 or 2, this is made using a silicone / PU fabric (the same as used in the Quasar) and is therefore able to be taped, it also has some extra guypoints, can be double poled etc to make it more suitable for year round camping. Hope this helps.
@Keith Griffiths Silly boy, it IS waterproof if you just put the sleeve on; it only takes a few seconds and you don't even have to take it off.
@Keith Griffiths It's not "something else" it's part of the tent, included in the pack, just like the poles and the pegs.
This pitching method doesn't make sense to me especially on a windy day

It's a good method that keeps the tent flat on the ground, secures it at both ends, then raises the tent to avoid it being blown away.

I have the (older) Laser Competition which the Compact was based on, and based on experience the pitching method works on a windy day.
Maybe it's me but it was a nightmare for me to put up.
