I personally think he took a very different approach from how I would normally hear this concerto...but wow...I couldn't keep my ears and eyes of this amazing performance ! Well done !

It's really moving to see how he not only has immaculate technique, but he uses it in the most artistic way; every phrase makes sense, even the fast ones in the 3rd mvt! Amazing.
Ok I'm no expert on 'cello technique but the playing here sounds absolutely wonderful, helped of course by the expertise of conductor Eschenbach and the Frankfurt R. S.O.

Wieder ganz großartig. Ein Exzellenter Solist, kongenial begleitet vom Orchester mit Meister Eschenbach.
Wunderschöne und lebhafte Aufführung dieses fein komponierten Konzerts mit mildem doch gut phrasiertem Ton des genialen und technisch perfekten Solocellos sowie gut harmonisierten und perfekt entsprechenden Tönen der anderen Instrumente. Der zweite Satz klingt besonders schön und echt elegant. Der erfahrene und intelligente Maestro dirigiert das kompakte und ausgezeichnete Orchester im rhythmischen Tempo und mit angenemer Dynamik. Einfach wunderbar!

Playful. This guy just seems to have extra time to do what he wants. Reminds me of the nonchalance of a jazz musician.
He does play a lot of progressive metal/rock on guitar on the side so I'm sure that pours into his cello playing too

Perhaps you will enjoy Vivaldi and Boccherini cello concertos. I love them.
