Love mine! I have a 2012 U.S. Abarth that I've owned since new with 104k miles. It has been 100% reliable. Never given me an ounce of trouble, even with fairly aggressive daily driving. This car is more smiles per miles than just about any car I have ever owned. And the looks on people's faces when they hear the exhaust note (especially after a decat pipe) is absolutely priceless.

    • @Foxtrot_Woof
      @Foxtrot_Woof 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@Willham Still have it. 130k miles on it now. Still very reliable and fun to drive. The trick is finding one that someone hasn't abused and neglected maintenance. Insurance is cheap, but I'm an older driver with a clean record as well.

While they are not the quickest in a straight line (they were never meant to be), they are quick through the twisties. You either love em or hate em. If you have never really driven one, you’ll never know how fun they can be.

It's a problem with quality control. Someone people have problems and some don't. My '13 abarth had a huge list of problems at 30k . Traded it in for a '20 mustang GT, still miss the fiat, but i don't miss constantly finding things wrong with it. Five years, 59,506 miles and I've had one set of replacement brake pads, one set of tyres and two control arms (worn rubber bushes). No reliability issues, no oil leaks, no replacement shock absorbers, no faults. The door handle on the driver's side (I'm in the UK so that's the one on the right, or correct side, of the car) did break at the front end but that was down to my lack of maintenance greasing the hinged part and was easily repaired . My Abarth 500 is solid as a rock. I don't recognise the majority of the weaknesses you describe although I hugely enjoyed your presentation style.

I’ve had it on multiple cross country rips I mean trips
I attended the Abarth experience at the Bob Bonderaunt race track in Arizona.
I lost 13 points off my license in one stop
I’ve always had the car serviced
I’ve always waited to beat on it till it is properly warm
I’ve beaten the snot out of it for 54,500 miles to date
Only issue has been the annual replacement of the inter cooler hose clamps
Other than a brief stint with a piggy back experience that was comical
    The car has run perfectly
Also might I add I’ve never had issues with the throttle booster of the same make
It is a car that despite never being the best of anything
It possesses a character money cannot purchase and few other automobiles have…

I've also driven on 2 quarts of oil by mistake and the car stayed running and it's still running strong today on 4 quarts lol. I'm not sure about other people's reliability with their Abarth but mine is pretty damn good, it also gets a good amount of attention. I will admit that the Florida sun do damage some of the exterior trims but they're easily replaceable. With that being said though, for under $10k it's a very good buy.

I bought my abarth for my first car last year. I bought it because they’re cheaper, and give you bang for your buck with the turbo, the stick shift, and the power to weight ratio. I’m in my journey of upgrades and literally a few bolt ons with some coilovers and people all over the place are always breaking necks from my lowered and loud Abarth. They’re great looking hot hatches, and have great sound. These things at 250 bhp can keep up with a C63 AMG and once I’m done with my bolt ons, a remap is next with a target of around 250 bhp. They aren’t too fast stock but a few bolt ons will have you pulling on most people on the road. Tune overkill. The reliability costs are low and the car has been great to me with no problems at 70k miles and going!!! These cars under the stock block can reliably give you stupid power gains!

The car is on warranty but I dropped it on coilovers so this particular issue may not be covered. The aftermarket is odd, most hot rod parts are in the UK since that is where this car is most popular. Welp I won’t lie, I’ve ran through one turbo. It was my fault tho, stock turbo should not be pushed farther than 25 psi. On a new turbo now, 88k miles on the car. Had it since 55k, and both door handles have broke once, i have been keeping up on ordinary maintenance, and I haven’t run into any electronic or powertrain issues. Clutch feels amazing, and the car has never left me stranded (knock on wood). But I will say, the oil pan doesn’t use a gasket; rather a permatex sealant, which cracks and bleeds oil from the pan. It’s certainly something everyone should check to fix on these cars. Also, my motor mount went out prematurely as well. The parts are cheap tho, and other than those few issues, the car rewards me with unlimited smiles. Absolute love for the fiat 500 abarth!!

I had a 2012 500 sport and then a 2015 abarth. Both were unbelievably fun to drive, but I was at the dealer non stop with both. Only got 27,000 miles out of the Abarth over a 4 year period, and had nothing but issues with it. I babied it and the interior would literally fall apart. Steering wheel, radio, and trunk latch had to be replaced, back seat leaked, among a host of other issues. Final nail in the coffin was a $1,700 transmission issue after the warranty expired. RIP

Castro Turbodart they are essentially the same motor, but the Multi-Air was a later generation, built specifically to be turbocharged as a successor to the STAR-JET, but with an electro-hydraulic valve timing device. This variable valve timing device, similar in result to V-TEC, is a uniques feature to the Muli-Air, as opposed to the T-Jet variants found in mainly Euro models. Sorry if this is a bit wordy.

I owned one of these for about a year and they're great cars. If you live in a place with rough roads then don't buy one. The short wheelbase and sport suspension is really rough, especially as a daily driver. Other than that, it's one of the most fun cars I've ever owned. Straight out of the factory, the exhaust also pops pretty loudly on downshifts when in sport mode.

I've owned my 500 Abarth just over 2 years. Reliability is questionable at best; replaced both front wheel bearings under 25k miles, chews through brakes, broken door handles, and interior straight outta the 90s. But the look on people's faces when they hear a start up or rev makes that all worth it (almost)...

@@hellbxymedia5027 have really just done oil changes and upgrades.. I think the only couple issues I had were the intermediate steering shaft clunk which I fixed for under $100, and I ran through a couple sets of strut mounts before upgrading to the DNA racing design. I should also note I was on more aggressive struts which probably contributed to the strut mount degradation. I've got around 100k miles, and know several with well over 200k. Mine has been tuned since the week I bought it and always driven hard. It makes trips to the tail of the dragon and has been all over the eastern half of the US. Never left me stranded. Picked up a 2014 Abarth as a daily driver and occasional track day toy, mainly because our local track is super small and tight. So far it's been a blast to drive. It's not a "fast" car per se but it corners well and has an amazing stock exhaust note. Downsides? Pretty minor considering these things were around $30K new in Canada and can be had used now for around $10K. Cheap interior but I wasn't expecting a ton here and it's functional. 4x98 wheels so not a ton of options unless you want to go 4x100. And a general consensus that the car consumes more oil that most (1L per 750 miles is within manufacturer tolerances). Might start becoming somewhat of a rarity as they didn't sell a ton and the car is now discontinued so whatever is on the road is what's gonna be out there.
