The same tutorial by Logos by Nick just in Inkscape. I mean you can create lots of clipart in PowerPoint but the quality of images is really low. It's better to create them in Inkscape,you'll see the difference after printing. However,it's fun and entertaining. Animated slides are something I'd like to see more in the future! Sorry to say merge shape is only available in PowerPoint 2013/2016/2019. Please, try to upgrade your version of PowerPoint to use much more potential features.
Steps: Click the File tab and select Options. Select the Customize Ribbon tab. Because we will place this tool on the Home tab, then click Home in the Main Tabs right box. Then click the New Group button at the bottom of the box, to add a new group on this tab. Click New Group Click the Rename button to rename and type a new group name, namely: Merge Shapes. Tip: You can change it to another name. This tutorial chooses the name Merge Shapes, to match it with PowerPoint 2013 and 2016. Rename New Group Names in PowerPoint 2010 Then in the top left dropdown box, select Commands Not in the Ribbon. Select Combine Shapes and click the Add button to add it to the Merge Shapes group. Adding Combine Shapes in the PowerPoint2010 Group Click Ok to close the dialog box. The Merge Shapes group will be displayed on the Home tab ribbon menu.

I am unable to subtract the main circle. Only the semi-circle. Is there a CTRL function for subtracting?
I don't think. If there is any, it will be visible in powerpoint itself when you hover over the button.
